Rugby World Cup 2015 | Reminiscing Thread

Is this shaping up to be the best WC ever?
I don't think so personally. The three best teams in the tournament seem to be NZ, Aus and Wales. Everyone else looks a tier below. As a result, I expect only two tight big games this tournament - Wales/Aus vs NZ in the semis and the final consisting of two out of those three.

Having said that, the other games have shown there isn't much to choose between the rest of the teams. I think that's why the group stage has been a decent show so far. I just think we're going to get a very boring - almost 'one-sided' - knockout stage.

If Wales v Scotland were to happen, who would the English crowd support?

Normally English sport fans would be less keen to support the Scots due to England traditionally having a more bitter sporting rivalry with them compared to Wales, but even I will admit that we Welsh fans are utter cnuts when we are doing well in the rugby. If I were English I would probably root for Scotland.

..You across as very humble though..and Scotland are the underdogs, so there is always that. Its not a set match yet though, a half to go .

Wales need to show creativity. They're just bashing it up the middle.

first good team wales play and they can't beat 13 men.

Or you could take an alternative view and talk about how Wales didn't concede a try against one of the best teams in the world.

you could do but you still wouldn't be winning the world cup.

We'll see.

We showed today that we can compete with the very best (that might seem odd considering the scoreline...but that match was settled entirely on kicks) and if we can get past SA (50/50 IMO), we can put up a fight against whoever we play in the semis.

What awesome defence by Australia. Great game for no tries.

Sorry I'd still back over SA over Wales. I'm not sure how well a physical game works against SA.

North had to go down the line, that was the big chance for Wales. Credit to Australia that defence was brutal.

Wales are in fantastic form, just gave the joint favourites a tough tough game, and are playing close to home, so they'll have the crowd with them . SA arent in form, havent really faced quality opposition, yet have still struggled.

It will might be close, but Wales are favourites.

No chance Wales are favourites. I can see a comfortable win for South Africa next weekend if they play to their full potential, the Japan defeat seemed to have woken them up and they're peaking at the right time.

That said, New Zealand are going to win this. Pocock has been predictably outstanding but I feel there's an unwarranted media hype surrounding Australia.

I somehow have been enjoying rugby matches more than football. Yes I used the word "somehow" because I never watched rugby before besides an occasional match from Georgia. Now I have been watching most big matches and I absolutely enjoy it more than I expected, in fact some matches I enjoyed more than football which has a tendency to get real boring when 2 teams don't take risks.

South Africa's problems predate the Japan defeat, and were quite evident during the end of year tour to Europe were they were poor. Coincidentally one of the teams to beat them then was Wales.

Fastfoward to the Rugby championship where they lost every game , with two of those at home. Japan was merely a continuing trend. Wales pushed SA hard in 2011, and they are ranked higher,

This Sa sides remind me of the 2003 one. Something seems missing, that edge and cant see them beating either Aus or NZ. Wales will be a tough ask too.

In my eyes, in general, the average rugby match has a lot more things happening than the average football match and therefore more interesting, but nothing beats two top footballing sides slugging it out at the biggest stage.

Yeah when it goes from one box to the other box at a high pace then a football match can be a real thrillershow for sure but that doesn't happen regularly unfortunately. I thought Germany-England in the 2010 World Cup was absolutely insane, so much happened in that game.

England vs Uruguay
The Uruguayan number 7 looks like a twig!

Haven't seen the Etihad this full since the commonwealth games.

BBC3 news reporter just said Australia knocked Wales out of the rugby World Cup. Oops

Have to say firstly a big well done to Uruguay who I thought in the first half especially did really well!

England at times looked a lot more like the team we wanted to see in this tournament. Slade at 12 especially looked good and having Joesph outside him showed a lot of promise! That's how England should play. Ball playing players at 12 with a number 10 in Ford who actually gets the ball out to them.

If they'd have done that against Wales I'm pretty confident they'd have won. But they didn't and as it was they had the freedom tonight to just go and play.

What a defensive effort by the Wallabies! I hope Wales and Australia play each other in the final because I can't see Wales beating them. They've lost 11 in a row to Australia and really should have won last night. Hoping like hell Pocock isn't seriously injured because AUS can't win the World Cup without him.

Is France-Ireland worth watching today or is there nothing to play for ?

It's an important game because the loser plays New Zealand in the Quarter Finals, the winner plays Argentina in the next round.
