Rugby World Cup 2015 | Reminiscing Thread

France have no psychological barrier with them, let's ask them nicely to do a solid for Ireland and take the QF hit
Well, you never know...this could be the year...imagine the wave of confidence that would give the Irish squad, the dam walls have to shutter some day.....and would throw the cats among the pigeons and mean there will be no clearcut favourite.

We'd get killed.
..Thats the spirit..in all honesty though in knockout rugby, you need a great kicking game and you have one of the best kickers in world rugby. Its not just a talent, but its definitely psychological with Ireland v All Blacks . There is no better time than now to do that.

Disclaimer : I am not saying the All Blacks are a weak side. Far from it.

What's like the footballing equivalent to New Zealand and on the other side the likes of Australia, Ireland, Wales and France in rugby ?

I don't think there is an equivalent in football to what New Zealand is in rugby. They have been the best team for as long as I can remember and can regularly destroy the other top teams.

Let's say NZ is Barca. What could I compare those others teams to?

Erm, maybe they're all Arsenals?

As in, before meeting up with Barca there'd be talk of 'oh, they'll give them a game!' and resist the inevitable bravely, etc, with there being an outside chance of an upset.

The bit that is damning the All Blacks is when looking at those stats its really a very poor record to have only won the WC twice and both times at home.

Yeah, I suppose it shows the effect expectation and therefore pressure has on a team. I'm not old enough to go back beyond the 2003 World Cup but I can't remember a time when any team went into a game as favourites against them. It's incredible they haven't won more.

So, tomorrow is the day when we see if Ireland have been holding their cards close to their chests for the past 6 weeks or if they've genuinely been on a downward spiral through the last 6 games.

First situation, the sky is genuinely the limit and Joe is a genius. Second situation, another ignominious QF exit beckons..

Scotland vs Samoa
What a start to the Samoa Scotland game!

15-10 to Samoa with 15 minutes played.

Hope Samoa win and Japan win so Japan make the last 8. What a performance and result that would be.

Did Scotland not learn from Englands efforts?. Take the 3 points from penalties when offered when there is plenty of time on the clock

Scotland again failing to take the three points a penalty would have given them. It would have meant Samoa would have needed a converted try to win.

Congrats to Scotland. But imo easily the best match of the tourny so far.

Thought they were going to bottle it there. Fair play to them, first time through to the quarters is it? It was a weak group though compared to the others.

Fantastic game.

Now for Wales to wreck the Aussies and get our free-pass to the semis...

Australia vs Wales
Solid start from Wales. Scrum looking better.

Edit: Scrum gone to shit again since I posted that

The Boyo's can do this! They are right in this game and in Biggar (minus that last kick) they have someone who can keep the score ticking over.

Come on you beauties. Then crush those bloody Scots and put them back in their place.
