Rugby Union 23/24 Discussion

Rowntree sacked/ leaves via mutual decision, what the feck have the board done, yes it's a bad start, but the issues are bigger than the coach.

I don't think he was sacked.

He asked for a medical joker at prop last week and apparently the IRFU said no. I'd say he has walked.

England vs New Zealand at Twickenham at 3:10 BST and I expect England to win by a little more than a converted try. In fact, I'd say that England, Ireland and France should all expect to beat New Zealand this November. Doesn't mean they will but anything less than a win should be a big disappointment. Gone of the days where if you lost by 7 points or fewer to the All Blacks you could walk off the field feeling like you'd done well, this All Blacks side is a shadow of the great sides that we saw 8-10+ years ago and are there for the taking.

fecking hell they’re not that bad

You’re making out they’re Wales level shite

Joe Marler and Scott Robertson shared an embrace by the sidelines. I couldn't lip read what Razor was saying unfortunately.

Thanks. Phil Kearns made the point about Eddie back in 2016 that he would England and then break them and it's a very accurate comment Kearnsy. I've seen an article from Ben Kay calling Eddie rugby's Jose Mourinho and like Mourinho, Eddie has a 2-3 year shelf life before he has to ship off or he has to build a new team. Matt Giteau told this story about Eddie and his mind games. His impersonation of Jones is a good one.

Genge showing the winger the outside was an interesting approach.

Still not convinced by Marcus Smith, don’t think I’ve ever seen him have that good a game. What’s he meant to be good at?

Creativity. He’s very good at holding onto the ball long enough to commit defenders and finding the open runner but the fact that Lawrence has barely touched the ball tells you how that’s been going. He’s much better in an attacking team.

Looks lost and low grade to me.

A big weakness for the All Blacks this year has been the last 20 minutes of games where they've struggled to impact the scoreboard.

Line speed has been a feature of England's defence all day and they get some pay in the form of a try from Feyi Waboso via a Marcus Smith intercept.

Haha, was ok. Standard stuff though. Doesn’t change that I don’t think he’s good enough for an elite international team.
I think England don’t play attacking rugby so it’s difficult for him to look good. I mean I wouldn’t even disagree with you about what you’ve said there, because he definitely has weaknesses for a number 10. He’s not a big tackler, not the best kicker, doesn’t really control games. But you can’t doubt his attacking ability.

Maybe id compare him to Bruno Fernandes?

Must be the most hated man in rugby. And there are quite a few prime cnuts he has to beat for that accolade.

He’s clearly got a bit of psychopathy about him. That Giteau story sounds so on point, fecking with players heads just for the sake of being the scary boss.

So pleasing that his life’s goal (the WC) will allude him

On the decline then haha

You more of a Finn Smith man?
Honestly I don’t watch much of the Gallagher Premiership, more just the International games. I’m a Wigan Rugby League man. Just wondered what he’s meant to bring compared to any others out there.

Randall coming on is interesting. Spencer is far better at controlling the game and kicking. Hopefully space to attack though.

So it’s hard to compare the halves in the two games. He’s sod all like Harry Smith anyway

Smith’s MO is playmaking as well as being pretty handy with the boot and also a running threat. He probably doesn’t shine as much for England as we don’t have that expansive a game plan unlike his Quins team where he has free reign to throw the ball around

I've seen yellow cards handed out (for my Queensland Reds at least) for that type of grasscutter tackle by Ben Earl.

Don’t you knock out Harry! Might look like an accountant but does his stuff. Sounds more like Bevan French then.

This change of front row has been a disaster.

If Dan Cole isn’t winning scrums he may as well not be on the pitch
