Rugby Union 23/24 Discussion

Just watching the Bath game at the moment and there’s a kid playing on the wing who’s clearly being targeted with cross field kicks as part of a game plan. It just made me think, is rugby is better or worse for announcing the line ups a good 36 hours before kick off?

I’ve never really understood why they do it that way. Doubt no teams have multiple tactical plans that they work on throughout the week, but surely it would add a bit more unpredictability into the mix if they went with the football method.

Two yellows, Russell kicking awfully from hand and tee, multiple line outs turned over in attacking positions, Yet coming away with 5 points away at Quinns. Might be lively in Europe if we can click a bit better.

Missed it today for the gym. Watched Saints last night and they looked irresistible in the first half

I didn’t watch last night, I wish I could say I was at the gym though. Sounds like Bristol were involved in another cracking game earlier and it’s quite nice to see Exeter struggling given they seem to inexplicably be a second team for fans where I live.

Yeah good to see Newcastle win as well. Definitely be watching the highlights of this round. Thank god the league season has finished, I simply haven’t got the time to follow both codes
Kids, grandchild, 2-month old puppy….think I’d rather follow both codes instead

Connacht should be chuffed if they can get into half time like this….that wind is crazy out there

Ha chaos. If it helps, I missed an hour of the United game because I was on uncle duty today. She’s the only reason I can accept missing a United game, although it is a bit easier when you feel like you’ve seen United lose enough over the last few years

That’s a blessing usually

Copped a bad day for it unfortunately, we played good stuff in parts today, worth a rewatch

It is! It's flying up too. Going to be great.

Not so great on the pitch unfortunately. Murphy and Ioane seem very nervous.
That wind has fecked them up, box kicks going backwards, pens missing touch….be interesting to see if they improve with it at their backs

Aye. I listened on radio 5 as we had a fairly long drive back. Only a couple years ago I would miss any family event to watch United, but today I was happy enough to get home and watch the rugby. I struggle to enjoy football these days.

Yeah I get what you mean, it’s generally more boring than not. Especially compared with rugby

Leinster, I'm from Dublin. I just meant the players in general. Connacht had the same issue first half.
Yeah, Connacht first half should have just kept ball in hand. Now they should be kicking for territory. It’s seemed like the other way round.

Leinster too strong anyway mind

Connacht's worst performance of the season by a fair way. Didn't expect us to win but it feels like we could have done better.

Murphy's nerves against his old team were understandable, but Ioane's kicking woes are pretty worrying. It's been costly a few times now.

I remember Kieran Keane pretty much destroying Jack Carty when he went through a rough patch. I'd hope now there's a much better structure for supporting Ioane to work through it. No better man than Carty himself to mentor him on kicking out of hand.

Whether you follow the prem or not, watch the highlights of Bristol vs Northampton….some downright mental tries

Japan taking on New Zealand soon and never before have I been more desperate to see the All Blacks thrash an opponent.

Was the match at the weekend that bad?
I saw some really scathing tweets.
Makes me think Connacht really missed a trick by not beating ye.
It was bad, but there is underlying factors, the props Ryan and archer are 36 and one of them is covering both sides, we got destroyed at the scrum, Oli is like Shaw always injured, we can't sign props either because of the irfu.
