Unfortunately that’s probably true. I’ll be very fecking upset if the scum end up getting him.

Yeah I would feel a bit less resigned to it IF they hadn't just announced Viana as new DOF. So annoying how they seemingly get their way with everything.

Doesnt say much, but Erik ten Hag destroyed him in the CL both home and away in the season before he joined United. Sporting seems to have improved a lot since then.

Yeah he's considerably improved since then

I don't know a lot about Sporting Lisbon -

But the difference between him & Ten Hag is really down to Ajax.

Ajax had a great deal of young players coming through at the time Ten Hag took over and coached them very well.

We have seen this with him coaching Mainoo & Garnacho well.

However, I'm not sure he actually built Ajax up. Felt like a young Ajax were built for him to coach by the heirachy of Ajax.

This is seen by his building of United with consistent poor transfers & even players he has coached before being a waste of money and being very poor quality. Most of the players he coached at Ajax came through the youth system such as Onana, De Ligt, De Jong, Mazroui etc.

Now with regards to Ruben Amorim has the team been built up for him by Sporting Lisbon heriachy?

It doesn't matter as much since now INEOS seem to have much more of a say on transfers than the manager alone - but if Amorim helped build Sporting up then it does show that he has an eye for quality in a player, something Ten Hag unfortunately lacks.

He didn't. And that squad wasn't built for him, Overmars built it for Ajax. Ajax don't build for managers, they build for their style they have as a club.

EtH took over a very young team that had reached the EL final under Peter Bosz which they lost against United. Somehow a lot of United fans don't seem to be aware of this, which is kind of amusing. He did get them on track again after Bosz failed to build on that himself and was sacked, but he took over a squad full of amazing talent and extraordinary quality (for a Dutch team).

He was my choice to replace ETH but the club dawdled and now he's a banker to go to city.

This is what they did with pep - get in his pals from Barcelona so the transition was all nice and easy. Pep is gone after this season I'm sure if it, and they'll be nicely set up with this guy for the next 5 years.

Yeah does have that same feel

Lads, he is going to City. That's how a highly competent club works. They get the DOF first with their preferred manager follow soon. This set them up nicely for both DoF AND manager who can work seamlessly.

of course he's going to deny it, he's in the middle of his season with Sporting

I wish you will get him but Sporting won’t let him go for cheap I would think.

Yeh his team is great, current champions, 30 goals scored in 9 games this season. Won all 9.

Doing well in the champions league as well with 7 points so far.

No chance we get him before the end of the season. I’m convinced City have him lined up to take over Pep anyway.

Wouldn't say that, he was whoring himself around at the end of last season wasn't he between flying in to see Liverpool and talking to West Ham. He clearly wants to come to the PREM

Yeah, I mean money wise it’s a big difference, United would be a massive raise for him.

When scousers wanted him, I think I heard he had a gentleman's agreement (small compensation) that he could go if a big club came in for him. Of course gentleman's agreements are not always kept.

With the amount of cost cutting we're doing what makes you think that? INEOS aren't going to spend a lot of money in any area.

We are cost cutting because INEOS have identified areas we have been spending in which we don’t need to spend, not because we are skint. It’s sad but it’s also just part of business.

If INEOS think they have found a manager that will transform the club then of course they will spend, the same way they spent £200m on players in the summer.

You shouldn't be paying anything more than a nominal fee for any manager. Just get him to throw his toys out the pram and the club will sack him. He gets a pay off and we don't pay a fee.

I remember spurs asking £20m for Poch and then end up sacking him months later.

Or alternatively, we pay 80m for some absolute duffer players, yet baulk at paying a fee for the most critical employee of them all!

What does his team play like? Is he married to a particular formation?

they play a 3421 formation that can at times look like in possession a 425 as the keeper almost plays like a CB when they have the ball

i would agree however City can't kick out Pep and i would imagine Pep wouldn't be making a decision before United makes a move for him, if they do

Signing shit players for insane amounts doesn’t mean that we should spend lots of money for a manager.

Managers most likely will fail. They should be easy replaceable, which means they should not cost much. If a manager wants out, the club will release him one way or another. Furthermore, almost all cases where a club paid a shitload for a manager (usually Chelsea is the only one who does so), it ends badly.

We shouldn’t focus on a manager (unless there is a next Pep somewhere), instead we should build a system that performs fairly well and try managers until someone fits. Hire and fire fast. Which means, not spending much money in any manager.

They have Sporting’s DOF coming in to replace Txiki. It’s the same move they made with Tixki joining ahead of Pep.

Players are assets. If you pay £80m for a player - it's because someone else is willing to pay something in that ball park for them too.

Managers are financial liabilities, the more you invest in them - the bigger your liability is.

When was the last time, Real Madrid paid a fee for a manager?

I don't think anyone is committing to City at the minute. Why would you?
