Ruben Amorim

Never forget this is the club that sold us Rojo. Not sure we should be doing business with them.

As per The Athletic Liverpool considered him in the summer to replace Klopp, but ultimately decided against it:

While impressed by his record, Edwards and Hughes had doubts about Amorim’s compatibility with the Liverpool job specifically.

They were unconvinced that his preference for a three-man central defence — shared by Alonso at Leverkusen, incidentally — would suit many of the players he would be working with. But more significant was a nagging concern about Amorim’s playing style. Sporting may have scored 96 goals in 34 league matches this season, but theirs is regarded as a slower style that is less front-foot — both in and out of possession.

There were similar conclusions about De Zerbi at Brighton and Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann. Like Amorim, De Zerbi was on a theoretical shortlist but not one of the first names on it. Playing style and compatibility with Liverpool were again considered to be a factor.

Wonder how the concerns as to his compatibility with their squad would translate to ours?

I think he’s the most logical option of those available. Another gamble yes, but who on the market doesn’t come with significant risks currently.

I would imagine the ball has been moving on this before today. Hopefully already lined up.

It would make sense why the plug was pulled when it was, as opposed to perhaps earlier times.
This is what I've been saying for ages - that they've already got a replacement lined up and are just waiting for the right moment.

Here's hoping, anyway.

Doesn't he play 3 at the back. I'm all for new set up. Something different
Ye we need to go to something different. When Conte came to the prem he won the league with a 3 at the back. We’re suited to it when Yoro comes back.

Also, did he reject Liverpool or did Liverpool rejected him? What happened there? All I know is that they spoke to him in the summer.

I don't mind a 3 man defence but the endless debate and moaning about it would be insufferable.

Podcast reports from that time suggest that he insisted on things like 3 ATB and asked for signings to support his vision. They ultimately decided that they wanted someone more flexible than that. Every manegerial appointment comes with risk and they didn't want a guy who insisted on his way or the highway. Squads built that way do not translate well to a new coach.

I haven't seen Sporting play since we beat them at Old Trafford in about 2008 and I know nothing about Amorim besides the fact he's not ten Hag, and on that basis alone, I'm mega excited for this

Liverpool dodged him so that means he's shit, expect him to get us relegated and Liverpool win the quadruple with a ten Hag clone. We live in the worst timeline
Seem to recall our main concern with him was insistence on playing a back three, which didn't suit the players we had.

For the numpties among us why do people rate him so highly?
He’s young, forward thinking, however he’s unproven in the PL the only issue is his system relies on an elite number 9, V Gryokes will cost £85-100m minimum?

United would need to back him in January, he’ll definitely get the most out of Manuel Ugarte?
