This is the best Manager available as he’s an upgrade on Xavi and he’s as good as Xabi Alonso, I’m guessing Sporting Lisbon would want huge compensation maybe €20m?

Would SJR pay that ?

They have Sporting’s DOF coming in to replace Txiki. It’s the same move they made with Tixki joining ahead of Pep.
very true...but unless Pep tells them before the end of the year tht he's leaving next summer, that could hinder getting Amorim.

i suspect that Dan and Omar will want to have a replacement decided for the calendar year 2025 starts

I don't see why we wouldn't pay it. We would pay it for an underwhelming squad player, so let's get one less of them and use the money on a manager.

I think he does well with the current group of players, from what I've seen with Sporting they are defensively responsible and have good structure and shape out of possession.

Young as well so is definitively an upcoming manager but well experienced in Portugal which is a combative league, given how well many of the players have transitioned from there to the premier league I think the same corresponds for management.

How is Amorim’s team like defensively? I know they’ve conceded very few amount of goals but ETH was quite similar at Ajax too and we know how that went. I’ve also heard Sporting usually have gaps in midfield when defending counters and transitions

Sounds scarily familiar

I think United won't get Amorim as manager. I think his future is tied with Viana's future and he will probably become City's manager next year. His departure will mostly likely be around the time Viana leaves. That way they will arrive at the same time at City. They have a very strong relationship and are very close friends. Rúben Amorim has also said in last season title celebration that he wanted to be the first Sporting manager to win the league two times in a row in 70 years. He's very confortable in Portugal, we are top of the league, with a very good CL campaign so far and he is the top earning manager in Portugal.

The timing is all wrong for United to pull this off. United will probably get another manager.

We've got a few Sporting CP fans on here who could provide a decent report on his management style

This guy is definitely the second coming of André Villas-Boas. In other words a must get.

I agree. On paper the best choice but I don't see it happening.

Do you think he will be a success there ? What type of football does he employ?

Yup. And that’s unfortunate. I really wanted him to become our manager. He’ll be the one that got away.

We are very solid defensively. I don't deny the problems in the midfield but it's more due to the fact that we are constantly rebuilding it. We have lost Palhinha, Matheus Nunes and Ugarte during these years. We now got Hjulmand that will most probably leave next year, so there's no continuation and stability. Bar the Lisbon CL City game where we got destroyed, Amorim got decent results against PL opposition. So it's one loss and draw against City, two draws against Arsenal eliminating them and a win and a draw against Spurs in the CL. That's probably better results than Ten Hag.

You're probably right, unfortunately.

Has he always dreamed of managing in League 2?

Be aware that I'm biased but Amorim will, in my opinion, be one of the top managers in Europe. I've been a Sporting fan for more than 3 decades now and this is the best football I've seen us play without a doubt.

Amorim is a brilliant man manager and very astute tactically. I just love how we play attacking football. I've never seen us play defensively. Probably the reason why City destroyed us. But he is a young manager and he learned from that.

If he ever became United manager, you wouldn't have to worry about defensive boring football. He's completely against that, although he became more pragmatic when facing top, superior opposition. Our goal average in Portugal is 30 scored and only 2 conceded. In the CL we scored 6 and conceded 1. Next two matches against City and Arsenal in the CL will show his real worth.

Can you like, make him join us, please?

Seems like ETH during Ajax days.

He would probably be best suited to making a midfield consisting of Ugarte and Bruno work well.

I can try to prevent him from joining United and City. I think we are experiencing the best phase in half a century thanks to him. He has 80% of the merit and the rest is divided by the DoF Viana and the President Frederico Varandas. I hope I'm wrong but when he leaves I think we will revert back to being shite.

I think it was based on last seasons stats but they were something like 14th place for XG turnovers and defending counter attacks. So yeah, would be interesting to see how it would translate to the prem as I understand he also likes to attack narrow/overloads through the middle and our players aren’t great at keeping possession, which is something Amorim promotes.

Formation might suit our current players/squad better though, if you think about it.

But @Sly is best placed to give us his thoughts.

Amorim had very high praise for Ugarte. He was one of his favorite players ever during his Sporting stint. He said so already. He thinks Hjulmand is more complete though. I'd be willing to bet that Hjulmand will probably move to where Amorim will go though.

Definitely should be on our list and definitely should be ahead of the likes of Frank and Xavi.

He surely wouldn't be lifting himself out of sporting now though would he? Looks to be in contract until 2026 too

I think that after the debacle with Liverpool and the London trip for negotiations with West Ham, Amorim agreed with our President to stay one more year and leave in the summer of 2025. Kinda like the agreement United and SAF had with Ronaldo before he moved to Real. Amorim looks so relaxed this year and is always eager to shutdown any move rumors. That's why I think he will move with Viana to City.

I mean that's not necessarily a bad thing. As much as ETH has failed, I don't think us appointing him in the first place was necessarily a bad decision at the time.

Incorrect.

Whilst they knocked Arsenal out the EL, Ten Hag actually managed much better results in the CL with Ajax.. outplayed Real, Juve as well. I haven't seen Sporting out play a top European team at his time.

Yet we saw how it worked out with Ten Hag, can see it going the same way with Almorin.

I was talking about Ten Hag results at United and was more of a joke than talking seriously since I don't know in detail Ten Hag results against top opponents in the PL. We actually outplayed Juventus as well but were very unlucky with the finishing. Even Italian journos thought we deserved better. We definitely outplayed Spurs and although our tie against Arsenal was very balanced we actually got through.

More difficult to outplay with Sporting than with Ajax as seen how Ajax beat us.

I sincerely believe Amorim is a way better manager but only time will tell.
