Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Thank you for everything Ruben. Thank you for improving our self esteem, thank you for defending the club above everything when you were here. Thank you for the two leagues, thank you for the enjoyment that you gave us at the stadium with your free flowing, attacking football. Thank you for standing up and representing our club at the highest level. Thank you for embracing our academy and giving chances to Sporting youth. You developed players like Nuno Mendes, Quenda, Catamo, Palhinha, Matheus Nunes etc. In 6 years we made 350 million euros in transfer money. Five of our top ten transfer in history came in your Era. Players like Ugarte, Porro were bought on a cheap and sold for millions and there is more to come with Gyokeres, Hjulmand and Diomande.

Thank you very much for rehabilitating our club. It won't be forgotten.

Best of luck at United and for your future.
How do you see your future going without both Viana and Amorim, now? Is the person who appointed them still there?

What's happening in terms of coaching staff? Is Amorim bringing people with him? Is Ruud staying?

Fair play to Sporting. They have handled all this far far better than I thought they would. Taking their manager in the middle of the season is just unacceptable and I would absolutely hate to have that done to us. But they have been nothing but professiobal throughout the whole process from what I've read at least.

You're a really good egg.

So Ugarte and all the extra CB’s were bought with Amorim in mind?

I find this fanciful looking at the reluctance in parting ways with Ten Hag. Had he - not been a bust - and if we were flying this season, we wouldn't have sacked him, so I doubt our recruitment was informed by Amorim/us potentially moving for him. Think it's one of those weird cases of "it worked out"

Excited by this but cautious after being burnt numerous times.

Will be interesting to see his first line up, I know people say, its the perfect time to get a manager in the international break but I feel its a negative.

The better players will be away for 10 days with international duty, players like Garnacho, Lisandro will probably come back 1/2 days before the game, so he wont really have time with those players.

So as a player, would you pull out the internationals? Especially players who dont start, like De Ligt, Garnacho, Zikrzee? Would they be better of not going?

The players who remain like , Mainoo, Rashford, Antony, Maguire, Evans may be the ones to benefit as they will be working on the new system.

Will be quite interesting to see, which players pull out with injury if any.

Good luck. He will need it. Changing the playstyle would be nice, but I also thought that would happen under Ten Hag and it didn't.

Hopefully, he realises early on certain players should be getting sold at the earliest possible moment, or he will quickly board the Sack Express as well.

Not the €1.65m that’s how much Sporting saved with some fees
Oh yea, you're right. Just re-read it and what you said makes sense. Seems like they saved that amount due to "termination and renegotiation of contracts related to intermediary commissions".

This translation makes more sense(thanks random person on 'X') :
COMMUNICATIONSPORTING CLUBE DE PORTUGAL – FUTEBOL, SAD

Sporting Clube de Portugal – Futebol, SAD (hereinafter referred to as Sporting SAD), in compliance with Article 17 of Regulation (EU) No. 596/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council, announces the following update, following the statement released on 29 October 2024:

Sporting SAD has reached an agreement with Manchester United FC (MUFC) regarding the terms and conditions of coach Rúben Amorim's departure, in exchange for which MUFC will pay Sporting SAD €11,000,000.

Additionally, Sporting SAD will benefit from €1,658,000 due to the cancellation of credit rights, recorded as liabilities and contingent liabilities, resulting from the termination and renegotiation of contracts related to intermediary commissions.

I'm grateful to be honest. I know some Sporting fans have turn on him, it's difficult to accept because of the timing and our superb start. But I'm understanding. You don't say no to the chance of managing one of the biggest club in the World. Along Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern and Liverpool, United is part of the club Royalty. This rough stretch doesn't change that. I prefer to keep the memories and be grateful for the success he brought to our club rather than being negative.

It's a new start and I'm looking forward to it.

I know this isn't quite the place for it - but is anyone else unable to get into the matchday thread for the chelsea game? It's just not there!

Good luck. I'm excited about the new project.

Me too but the first part (good luck) is so important too. Regardlesss of being a good coach you also have to have the luck and hopefully he brings that too as we are looooong overdue some.

Ultimately, this is why INEOS are giving me hope. Clearly defined structure with distinct roles. If one piece doesn't work out, you plug out and plug back in.
My feelings exactly. Head coach should be the one who coaches team and that is it.
Not saying that he should not have a vote about recruitment, of course he must have a say. But not be in charge for that.

wish you guys all the best and really hope you can still win the title.

I must say that it is a nice feeling having a manager who is rated by our rivals.

I do hope he will not do Solskjaer and Ten Hag; ditch his style of play because "PL is different league".
Solskjaer came with phrases about attacking game, full backs staying high and ended up as being counter attacking manager. Erik ditched possession style for "being best transition team in Europe".

Aww we promise to take care o…. Aaah who am I kidding we will ruin him.

Exciting.

I think similar things were said about ETH but he was managing the dominant team in his league. Amorim took over with them 19th and their fans attacking their players. What he’s done has been superb and on less money than Porto and Benfica. Finally a charismatic young manager too. Hopefully gets the media onside from the get go as he’ll still need time.

Btw, how was Ugarte under him?

Let's also hope he will have the easiest job from all the post-Ferguson managers, thanks to the structure provided for him. I'm optimistic that this will be the case. But for his United stint to be considered a success, he'll need to win at least 1 PL or CL.

Why is he called the Head Coach and not the manager?

Yeah I'm not convinced it suits this club though. Are we going to start seeing someone above Amorim speaking to the press about recruitment, for example, to take some of the pressure from him?

You need a big personality and broad shoulders to lead Manchester United, whatever job title you're given. Deliberately relegating him to head coach seems like we're undermining him from the start. I hope I'm wrong, but we all know the press in this country will pick mercilessly at any perceived weakness.
I hear your point. I hope this guy has a think enough skin for the awful media mashup MUFC have become. Looking forward to seeing how he approaches job. Best of luck to him and us.
