Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

I heard he turned down the scousers because these behind the scene talks have been going on for quite sometime.
Once it became clear Utd were interested that was it and the scousers were left looking elsewhere.
He turned Sporting around and I see no reason why he can’t turn Utd around, the man stinks of success and confidence, just what we need.

I choose to believe this.

Yeah I'm not convinced it suits this club though. Are we going to start seeing someone above Amorim speaking to the press about recruitment, for example, to take some of the pressure from him?

You need a big personality and broad shoulders to lead Manchester United, whatever job title you're given. Deliberately relegating him to head coach seems like we're undermining him from the start. I hope I'm wrong, but we all know the press in this country will pick mercilessly at any perceived weakness.
Would guess it is mostly really his veto regarding transfers that they removed from the role. I am sure he will be involved in finding the right targets for his teams. Just not quite as big say and no veto right.
Which of course is the right thing to do. Hopefully it will help make more sense of our transfers in the long term.
For him, i don`t think it will feel like we are undermining him. He will get good help and support by qualified people and slightly less responsibilty on his shoulders.

So Ugarte and all the extra CB’s were bought with Amorim in mind?

Looks very likely that is the situation. we didnt sell any CB either and the one thing that stood out was that Ten Hag wanted to keep McTominay. Our board were determined to get Ugarte, a player not fancied by Ten Hag. All points to this being the long term plan.

Head coach? Interesting choice of words. Erik was a manager.
If this means; "You coach squad which WE give you" then i love it.

It looks like too much of a coincidence not to be, surely?
I was close to shitting in a handbag through nerves if that helps

Happy we moved pretty fast on this one. We obviously had the wheels in motion by the time ETH was sacked, given that the news broke just a few hours after we sacked him.

I think there's a natural reservation people will have about him, given that the circumstances feel very similar to ETH. A hipster coach dominating a weaker league with no history in the big leagues. However, just because a certain type of manager didn't work out once, doesn't mean you should go in a completely different direction next time. Its fine to get for the same type of manager, as long as they're better. I think the settled backroom will make a big difference, and overall, I think the squad is better than the one ETH inherited.

I think the 3-4-3 will be divisive and will be a source of complaints whenever things go wrong. Im fine with it, and think our squad has a lot of compatibility with the formation. Indeed, ironically, it may be a better better fit for Amorim than the way ETH wanted the squad to play, at the end anyway. I don't think it'll be as bad as when LVG did it, simply because every team is flexible with their formation these days, so fans are used to it. But there's still a section of the fanbase that are sceptical of anything too fancy.

However I do have some reservations about squad development down the line with the 3-4-3. The aim for the DOF is to have better continuity between managers by finding a defined style that can be, broadly speaking, kept from manager to manager. This makes squad planning better and minimises overhauls if/when a manager fails. Quite simply, if we end up with a squad comprising 5 centre backs and 4 wingbacks, only for Amorim to leave, where does that leave the squad for the next guy? That said, if Amorim brings us success in the meantime, it'll be a price worth paying.

I also think this should be seen as the true beginning of the Ineos era. They now have their choice of CEO, DOF, Technical Director and Manager. (Plus Brailsford, whatever the hell he is). Yes, it'll take a little longer to assemble their preferred first team squad, but other than that, I think this ends a few of the caveats people rightfully had in terms of judging their performance so far.

For myself, the most important thing is that we finally develop a clear playing style from here onwards. I mean, shit, when was the last time we played outstandingly well in a big game other than by counter attacking? Have we done that even 10 times in the last 10 years? The kind of dominant, attacking, possession focussed football that most of the big clubs play these days. Even if it takes a while to make it happen consistently, that's what the entire team at Ineos need to focus on, starting this season.

Once I see Ruben and Ruud together on the sidelines, it's a sight that may challenge my testosterone level.

So, you CAN hire a manager during a season who is also under contract. Wow, who would knew that?
Oh, i know; i did. :)

The reactions out of Portugal are fascinating. Sporting fans are crying, Benfica and Porto fans are cheering. Are we signing Sporting Jesus? :D

Extremely happy with this. All the rumours about potential meh candidates have been pretty disheartening over the past weeks and months, so the fact that the new hierarchy instead moves for such a young and promising coach is fantastic to see. Got it done relatively quickly and smoothly too. Colour me impressed.

Yeah, could be. I mean no one can say with any certainty that was the plan.

We needed a CDM to replace Casemiro and the scouts chose Ugarte as the perfect fit.

On the other side of it, it is risky buying a player for a manager that isn't at the club and you dont know if he will ever be the manager/

Really happy about this. Can`t wait to see sexy Ruud in the dugout next couple of games, can`t wait to see sexy Ruuben in the dugout long term. Was the one i wanted and was most excited for. Really good work by Omar and Dan.

Thank you for everything Ruben. Thank you for improving our self esteem, thank you for defending the club above everything when you were here. Thank you for the two leagues, thank you for the enjoyment that you gave us at the stadium with your free flowing, attacking football. Thank you for standing up and representing our club at the highest level. Thank you for embracing our academy and giving chances to Sporting youth. You developed players like Nuno Mendes, Quenda, Catamo, Palhinha, Matheus Nunes etc. In 6 years we made 350 million euros in transfer money. Five of our top ten transfer in history came in your Era. Players like Ugarte, Porro were bought on a cheap and sold for millions and there is more to come with Gyokeres, Hjulmand and Diomande.

Thank you very much for rehabilitating our club. It won't be forgotten.

Best of luck at United and for your future.

Don't get me wrong, I can see the sense in it and it's far from unusual these days.

But it's new for United. And, like I said, the press love to pick at such things when it comes to United. So it feels like we're handing them ammunition without any tangible benefit. After all, he could be called manager and still not have a transfer veto.

I don’t remember the last time a coach received so much praise. You see highly rated coaches move all the time but it’s rare to see so many opposition fans openly saying how relieved they are, and even journalists, other managers and players all mention how great Amorim is.

He has a 77% win rate at sporting so I expect him to win 21 of the EPL games he is in charge of.

Hope you guys still get the league this season. New manager should pick up where Amorim left off.
