Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

How highly do you rate him?
I rate him highly, he’s done a great job at Sporting.

How that will translate to Man Utd and the premier league remains to be seen but I have faith in him. It will take time.

His first title at sporting was shaky, a lot of late goals to save the day, but they are totally dominating the league this days, not an easy job to get the upper hand on Porto and Benfica.

He’s a smart guy and he is very likable even for the rival fans such as myself.

€11m and another €1.65m apparently.

I do think there is something to be said about the difference in charisma between him and Erik. I think Erik lacked it, and I did get that vibe from his first press conference. I think this is also one of the reasons the media seemed to have an inherent dislike towards him.

Amorim has a swagger and a cheekiness about him. I think that could be a big factor.

3rd best appointment we could have made behind Alonso and Nagelsmann, who probably weren't available, so I'm happy. Exciting times ahead hopefully.

What’s the difference between head coach and manager? Isit just a different name for the same thing?

Traditionally a manager is in charge of all the Footbal side, he only answers to the owner/CEO. A head coach is just in charge of coaching the first team, typically there is at least one technical executive above that is in charge of the Football side in its entirety or more likely several.

Amorim gets the job. Hopefully we can give our first opponents a good licking under him!

In the 21st century there’s no doubt: Portuguese League > Dutch League

Will be interesting to see if he sits in the stand for the next few games before starting full time. A few flight from and back to Lisbon wouldn’t be too bad if he wants to have an early look at the team, but wondering if it will too distracting for everyone.
He’ll be taking charge of Sporting’s games he won’t be in the stands

Excited for what the future holds but also a bit apprehensive because every manager we have brought in, post Moyes, initially looked and felt like the saviour we needed but all ended up losing their heads in two and half years resulting in us starting all over again. Having wasted a billion plus in transfer fees over the last decade, this one better work or we will be on a long and difficult road with every chance that we might never find our way back.

I hope we have the means and the will to support him in January because this squad is severely lacking in the physicality and athleticism demanded by modern systems.

Took a peek at Sporting's reddit and they are fuming (understandably so). There's a few reasonable folks saying they should appreciate what he did for them, and they understand the move as it's his career and most people wouldn't pass up on this chance, but there's some guys in there that are on pure hatred mode.

There's even a giant post with a bunch of fanfiction about United saying we have players that are contractually obligated to be in the team/starting 11. They keep referencing Van Gaal, Mourinho & Ronaldo as corroboration - saying we're not going to go anywhere, this is a step backwards, we are heavily in debt, our stadium is falling apart, we don't even have proper training facilities, Qatar would have fixed us, but our parasite owners went with reh reh reh, we're 20 years away from competing with City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Villa or Spurs, he won't be successful here because it's impossible to be so, etc etc, like all sorts of insults. Even saw some guys saying they'll boo him tonight

sheesh

I’m sure they have sky sports over in Portugal. He can watch us on tv Sunday. We’re on tv on thursday aswell.

He’s going to be blessed with some players back from injuries. Shaw, Malacia, Mount and Yoro should be close to full fitness when he joins

It’s a shame though because weve always had a really good relationship with sporting and their fans.

Bem-vindo Ruben!

I hope he's the guy who takes us forward. His stats at Sporting are impressive.

I'm a bit confused why we didn't make this change in the summer. And his 3-4-3 formation might not fit the players we currently have so I hope Berrada, Ashworth and co. know what they're doing.

Enough is enough....what did we expect when we appointed such a going manager. It ain't working, he needs to go. Amorim out!!!

Just practicing my lines for 2026 when the inevitable happens. :annoyed:

On a serious note, really hope this works out!

Time for some proper tactical and proper footballing style being played

I actually think his system suits our players a lot better than the 4-2-3-1. We’re so open when playing that. The 3 at the back will allow players like Bruno and Rashford to concentrate on attacking. Also ugarte and Mainoo will be monsters in this system.
