Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

his post-match is going to be really interesting

despite the win I expect he'll be apoplectic, and rightly so

This is not about the manager in the slightest.

This team cannot play compact. They just don't have the physicality nor the intensity/ energy/desire.

Look at the number of players who can't keep it up. Maguire, MDL, Mainoo, Bruno, Garnacho...

Oh look push your better players further up and put some attackers on and things look better,if he keeps persisting with this formation at home to teams like Southampton it's dog shit.

Zirkzee instead of Hojlund and Mainoo out was the real difference today.

He was MASSIVELY let down by Ugarte and Mainoo. Absolutely shocking from both of them.
Hojlund was bad beyond words.
Also if Garnacho scores the easy chance it's much calmer game for us.

Zirkzee did really well but that says nothing really. For all we know, next game he starts, plays terrible and Hojlund comes on and looks decent.

We NEED players badly.

And to the clueless posts saying "we should have kept ETH" - ETH almost froze Amad out, trying to push Forson ahead of him. Think about that.

Moving de Ligt across massively helped in last ten minutes he won everything and gave us momentum

Amorim started with the wrong approach but I'll give him credit for changing things.

Its true that some players under performed e.g., Hojlund. However, we also needed to give the players a platform by being positive in the wingback areas and being compact.

For like an hour, maybe more, the defensive line did not follow the first two lines in pressing and it made us very open. We looked so much better when the fullbacks were proactive and it meant our midfielders didn't need to go chasing out wide and leave gaps in the middle.

I'm glad he fixed but God knows why he stood on the touchline for so long watching us play so open and so disjointed.

What do you mean by it not meaning anything regarding Zirkzee? He should get the chance now to build on the Arsenal performance and tonight- helped change the game clearly by resembling an actual footballer

I am not sure he fixed much, only Zirkzee was a good sub. The other two was a bit confusing at that stage. Yorro should have been hooked earlier. Amads breakthrough helped tilt the momentum but otherwise it was broadly the same shit football.

He's proactive in making changes at least. In all honesty, I don't think he can take much credit away from today though. It was a pretty worrying performance today and even with the changes, I don't think they improved our general play until we got an equaliser.

Superb in-game management to recover. No one player is indispensable.

I agree, I love that he was so impatient in the second half. Gave them a small chance, didn’t like what he saw, immediately went to work and made some changes. I’m hoping the team is slowly gaining confidence, both in themselves and Amorim.

Absolutely. It was a shit half from most but Hojlunda inability to receive a pass meant we couldn't build a single fecking thing. He's completely useless. Amorim surely has to start Zirkzee from now on, just makes a giant difference. He's nothing special but at least he can keep the play going for us
I would rather play with 10 men than with Hojlund. He’s beyond useless these days, he is actually a hindrance.

Amad saved him from complete humiliation. Possibly back to a mid table level of football? Gonna need to see more to find out.

It's the first time Zirkzee produces back to back good cameos.
He should start next game but I'm not convinced he'll be good. Hope he is.

One thing you can credit him for tonight (and overall) it’s his in game management which is top notch.

Very few goalscorers in the team. No amount of coaching is going to fix some of these players on that. There is going to be little progress unless Amorim can buy some players who don't shit themselves in front of goal.

Eriksen wasn't a good sub? Stop posting garbage.

Can’t believe this people calling for his head during the game.

Actually, sadly, I can.
I don’t think anyone was calling for his head, but it’s difficult to proclaim him the messiah when he’s lost nearly 50% of the games he’s been in charge of.

It’s extremely worrying how negatively we setup with this wing back system.

I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes. It’s an impossible job if you don’t know what your players will deliver from one game to another. Apart from 3 or 4 players, everyone else is as likely to deliver a 2/10 as they are to deliver an 8/10 (except for a few who can only deliver max 6/10).

Having a CF who can play with his back to goal is absolutely essential to this formation. Everything played into Hojlund ( who I like but is both in woeful form and still too raw to be the main-man) came back and had us pinned in.

Credit to him for the subs. Attacking-wise, in the 2nd half it was clearly a case of throwing all caution to the wind to avoid embarrassment. Reminiscent of the individual brilliance fc days.

Still very unconvinced about the starting setup. Think it detracts from instead of boosting our better players. Let's see if there's a playstyle transformation to come, but not holding my breath to be honest.

Don't think we'll ever see Amad at wing back again, you need him in the danger zones as much as possible. He'll be rightly raging with that performance, shows exactly what this squad is like though, it's easy to give a shit against Liverpool and Arsenal but smashing shite like Southampton every week is what's gonna propel you up the table. Lot's of work to be done.
