Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Seemed to brush of the refereeing situation which I found a bit strange.

If it were up to Me I'd go for the jugular but I'm sure he has his own plans.
It shows class but there are other avenues to attack that situation. He also brushed off the leaking of our line up early in his tenure and said it was hard to stop, only for it to stop shortly after.

United have always had a big performance in them over the last 5-10 seasons.

Liverpool and Arsenal were great performances but Amorim needs to crack the code against less glamorous teams.

How they fight and press against Southampton will say a lot.
7-0 was last season, and we have rarely had big game performances. Amorim is getting there by figuring out who can fit his system!

I really admire the fact that he doesn't criticise referees and doesn't talk about bad refereeing decisions.. However my worry is referees will give 50/50s and big decisions against us now because they know our manager won't call them out.

There are other ways to skin a cat. If he is liked by referees and 4th officials then that can also seep into their psychology.

Is this the blueprint against top sides in away games? We rode our luck today, we could barely make any passes

He beat City 4-1 with Sporting playing on the counter, and even after that game he said he won’t be able to approach big games like that with us. That was after taking City to the cleaners.

He’s said himself he wants to control games and be assertive? But I think it was clear today that they were a level above technically, we weren’t going to outplay them with the team we had out there at this stage.

Just be happy we found a way for now. I said at half time it’d have to be a monumental team talk and some clever tweaks to turn the tide as they were far better the first 45. And we did it. Even more surprisingly, we did it with 10 men whilst players finally worked their bollocks off and left it all out there. So not a technical masterclass, but equally refreshing for us all to see I think.

Well we are scrapping and fighting, so have started at least competing away from home against better sides. Not sure we necessarily deserve to have gotten the results we have, but I like the attitude and you make your own luck.

Now, we have to actually make it count and clean up over the next two weeks with three home wins against very beatable sides to get our season back on track.
Against a team full of cheats and divers? yes we deserve it. One of their players thinks he's undertaker and got away with it.

Can you name a season where Fergie consistently played a Cup Keeper? Or just even regularly rotated a clear number 1 with a backup?

Sealey and Walsh played cup games in his early years. Then Kuszczak played cup games when he was backup. Then Lindegaard and De Gea shared the number one spot for a while.

It's how we impose ourselves on weaker teams that we need to improve. I hope we smash Southampton.

At the risk of jinxing it, I think we’ll smash weak teams like Southampton. It’s the non-Big 6, non-relegation fodder teams that we seem to struggle against, the likes of Newcastle, Wolves, Palace, Bournemouth, etc. That would be the nut for Amorim to crack if we are to compete for anything.

I hope we make at least 1 January signing to support Amorim’s work. Looks like nothing will happen if we don’t sell.

These last 2 results have left me impressed. If they could bring in a couple players I think the back half of the season could be really positive.

Must win Thursday to keep up the vibes. Hopefully they fill their boots.

That’s how i see it. With possession savvy top sides this doesn’t sound very sustainable but with the current squad this is the best he can manage. He has managed to instill fight and determination. So positive for the future

Exactly. I'd rather it be an issue of personnel than the system. Couldn't get over people saying he needs to drop his system after a month, I'm pretty knee-jerk and even I thought that reaction was OTT.
There were posters who I think are great in general saying this and I was as surprised as you.

The two big reasons being that we hired him for the football he played so why would we want him to change his style straight away? That was the problem with ten Hag. We got him because of the football he played at Ajax and then he ended up saying he couldn't play that way here. Baffling.

Second reason being that his system had already started looking the business. We were creating plenty of chances, outplaying big teams away from home in City and Spurs, which we hadn't done since probably van Gaal, but were being let down by individual mistakes. I still don't get how there were a relatively big section of the fanbase who couldn't recognise the positives already.

We're still a very inconsistent team so we'll inevitably drop more points (which Amorim pointed out straight away). Let's see if the fans who were losing their minds prior to the Liverpool game remember games like this and realise that, despite losing every now and then, we are making obvious progress that will be even more recognisable after Amorim gets some better players in and a preseason.

This season looked like a lost cause after the Newcastle match. In two of the most difficult matches possible since, Amorim has shown his commitment to the cause and he's been able to get that back from more players than I think any of us expected. We won't have a great season ultimately, we just don't have enough talent right now. But it absolutely can still be used to create the culture we need to succeed meaningfully again. Bring on the "lesser" matches and let's see if everyone is still up for it.

Good game management (brave subs repaid faith). The structure is relatively stable. The offense is still a bit clunky.

Definitely some positive signs, we’re still in two cup competitions. There’s no reason why we can’t finish with some silverware this season and have a route back to European football next year.

Yeah. I should learn by now. But every time he subs one of the cb’s I think “what are you doing” but it never really makes much of a difference. Which is actually a great sign. We are blessed with 4 top quality CB’s, Lindalof & Evans can also do a job.

Every win and loss feels like a step in the right direction.
I’m genuinely looking forward to the day where win playing badly and fan base are like “that wasn’t good enough” as opposed to previous eras where we’ve just lapped it up.

Makes some really ballsy calls, especially with his subs. Getting Colleyer on instead of Case, Yoro at that moment of the match. Love his pressers too.

Also, I don't get all the negative talk. We were one man down and no how deadly they can be when given space. And it's not like we were not going for the win, especially during set pieces, sending so many players up. Very brave performance, more of the same please!

I'm amazed we managed to progress through with 10 man.

I always feel like historically we rarely have good results with 10 men against the top teams.

Credit to him, the staff and the players.

It usually feels like most the cafe wants us to lose so they can go, ha I told you he was rubbish, he should be sacked, formation sucks etc etc..

It may sound cliche but I think Amorim is the one to get us back to where United belong. As long as club management doesn't sabotage him he looks the real deal. Full focus. He has total trust in his abilities and his system. Unfeathered by journos trying to ruffle his feathers. Because he knows he didn't come here to compete. He came here to dominate. It also comes at a perfect time when Klopp and Guardiola time is coming to an end and a new era can begin. Trust the process.

Think he is on the right track. For all the calls that it's Southampton that is the big test, our record away to the top sides has been atrocious for years now. The fight and desire seems to be back and that's the first step needed when the quality isn't there.

If we have that same work rate against Southampton I'm confident we'll win as our quality will shine through.

Be interesting if we sign anyone this January, whilst I'd love the club to back him and sign someone it should only happen if it's the same players we would sign in the summer. The season is basically a write off, so I don't want us signing stop gaps or punts based on availability. Next season is where we should be aiming to hit the ground running.

Amorim is doing the business. Since after the first 30 mins of the Newcastle game when he brought Mainoo into midfield and with Ugarte back we look solid. The most solid we’ve looked in a very long time. Every time we lost the ball under ETH both this season and last the opposition walked through our centre at will.

Amorim has experienced that on a good few occasions but his shape, pressing and hard work ethics are now coming through. This isn’t an overnight fix. Let’s now score some goals and pick up points whilst continuing with the shape, off the ball work and desire. If we can do that we can get back into the top half maybe top 8.

Yeah but the world is still watching and referees will know they can’t perform as badly as yesterday and get away with it. I’ll be surprised if Madley isn’t dropped by his superiors for the next round of games - everyone saw the utter ineptness of his performance yesterday, even if RA chooses to keep a dignified silence.

Best form of attack is a solid defence. We have slowly been building that with the new system. I like the start we have seen. He said it, we will have to suffer and this was a reference to the players, to sort out there weak mentality. 2 very tough away games in a row, who on earth would have though we wouldn't lose either, I thought we would be taken to cleaners easily. The team has started to show they can play together for each other. Southampton is a big game for us, how do we deal against a smaller team? Can we get a few goals and apply more control? I'm liking what I see so far, small steps is needed, he cannot change 25 players overnight.

Under Amorin, there's a character, spirit and fight in the team that I haven't seen for a long long time.

He's not afraid to make decisions that are best for the team, including using substitutions bravely and tactically and the dropping those providing an unwelcome distraction.

Still think its way too early. The same plaudits were being given to Ten Hag and Ole early on. The United teams were always capable of raising their levels for games vs rivals every now and then. Its this next run of games where we need to see a true difference. At the moment, everything said about Amorim was said about Ten Hag after half a season in.

I respectfully disagree. You can see already RA is a good tactician. He just needs better tools to work with.

He needs to be given time, you need to get behind him and the team, even if you feel like you don’t like player A or player B so much. I’m not a United supporter as I have my own club (Benfica) but now I am here with all of you for this journey.

It’s not going to be easy, there will be a lot of “storms” on the way but trust me, he is him.

He can handle everything the press throws at him with ease, he’s young and willing to learn and got lots of room for improvement in many areas.

I know today’s display wasn’t the best in the attacking sense but we also need to be reasonable enough to understand the team’s moment and who you just faced. Away at the Emirates against an Arsenal team that desperately needed that W to turn it around after that Newcastle game, it was never going to be easy.

Until the send off it was a pretty even game but as you’d expect things change but there wasn’t a lot the team could do but fight and show grit and that’s exactly what we did and we need to applaud that and be positive instead of looking for things to complain about.

Bruno was magnificent, Maguire is a completely different player under Amorim I can hardly recognise him, Ugarte and Mainoo make a good partnership.

Take my hat off to him, he made some difficult decisions in leaving out Garnacho and Rashford and that sent a clear message to the rest of the squad.

He’s already figured out who he can trust, it was easy from an outside perspective for the likes of me, players like Casemiro, Eriksen, Antony, Rashford are nowhere near the level that is expected in this football club. You can tell by their limited usage in the past weeks that they’ve been crossed out, the board needs to take control of the situation and offload them.

Bring in a LWB, CAM and ST and this man will cook. He needs full backing and if previous managers have had their backing, he deserves the same. He’s known for making omelettes with no eggs but that doesn’t mean he can make miracles with this squad.

One thing that leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth is Mctominay’s departure, I know he wasn’t exactly loved by this fan base but I could have seen him being a very important player under him. He’d fit his system like a glove and was a player that always showed passion when on the pitch (in my honest opinion).

Excited for you guys and what the future brings. Good luck guys and take good care of him.
McT as one of the 10s is an intriguing thought, I must admit

How anyone can complain after that game is beyond me. All against us, yet we win. Brilliant by the team but especially the manager how he built that spirit

Same was said about Ten Hag. I think Amorim is a good coach however, its still very early.
Not disagreeing with you. As a fanbase, you want to be hopeful and see signs of improvement. We did with Ole and we also did with ETH, like you said.

The difference between our previous two managers and Amorim for me is that you can see what he wants to do. You can see his signature in the way we play, something I felt was always lacking under ETH. Whether that will be enough remains to be seen, but reason enough for me to be optimistic

I think the team has always been capable of fight and spirit in these games. The cup final last year we showed it under ETH.

Agree with those who say we shouldn't get carried away about Amorim just yet(although I want to).
