Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

You watched the Tifo video didn't you?
Been watching everything I can get my hands on

Not the first time I've felt optimistic about a hire recently but I believe Amorims mental makeup and edge to him set him up uniquely for this job as opposed to what we tried previously.

I truly believe he can get a tune out of this lot even before he gets to reshape the squad to his liking/image next summer.

Surely by your logic the top 3 in that vote should have been the top 3 goalscorers?

I'm not sure if you're confusing me with someone else?

You have said he was the best player in the Championship that season based on your admission that you "watched a bit" of him.

I'm telling you that he wasn't in the top 3 of the voting for player of the season in the Championship that season.

That's not my top 3. You don't seem to be getting it do you.

If Sporting go on to win the league, would he qualify for a winners medal? How does it work in the case of managers, do they have to take part in a minimum number of games or in the case of multiple managers in a season is it the one who’s overseen most matches?

I don't think you do.

I'm saying the players who play in that league and get a PFA vote probably have a better idea in who the best players there were rather than someone who "watched a bit of him".

Yes, he will get a winners medal. Pretty sure it was mentioned by someone at Sporting

Ahh so I'm not a footballer so I can't have an opinion, especially if it's not the same as yours. Got you!

I appreciate his honesty, and his really transparent rundown of what the last week or so was like for him.

I hope he brings that with him. The lack of transparency from Ten Hag was borderline insulting at times.

Not quite what I said was it?

Player plays in a league and doesn't finish in the top 3 of the voting for best player.

Berbaclass is here to say he watched a bit of him cause he has a friend that supports Middlesbrough and the whole league was wrong.

The best player votes are never wrong are they.

In that case thought I would argue that the Championship is a more physical league than the PL. He did pretty well in there against 'physical' defenders.
True. But still didn’t get anywhere near the numbers he gets now

Hojlund bashing is a bit tiresome. He's a young player who did good in Italy with a very demanding manager such as Gasperini. I think some United players were underperforming because of Ten Hag setup and managerial style. I sincerily believe he will flourish with Amorim. I think United has more pressing needs than splurging money on another striker. Give a real chance to Hojlund and Zirkzee.
It really is. Hojlund is still only 21 years old and had to lead the line for a club with huge pressure and expectation from the age of 20. He has ability but it isn't his fault that the club didn't have a more senior striker to rotate with him and take some of the pressure off.

Gyokeres is obviously doing very well at the moment but he's 5 years Hojlund's senior and playing in a weaker league. It's obvious his goal returns will be better. I'm still hopeful Hojlund can develop into a very good player in his own right with a better coach and system around him to help him along. We may well need another striker in the summer but lets actually see how we can improve what we have first before throwing money at players from other clubs.

You say that now, but you'd also moan that we didn't sign him if he went to say.....Arsenal and started banging in the goals, calling our transfer team "inept" for making such a mistake.

Maybe, maybe not. We've had far more duds than successful players over the past 11 years. We need to be very careful going forward spending big money on players from these types of leagues. The good thing about Bruno is he was relatively cheap considering, but this guy would command a massive fee I'd imagine.

If I remember correctly, the reason he reportedly didn't get the Spurs job was down to lack of personality.

I remember those reports at the time and at the time believed that maybe we needed a cool, distant sort to calm down all the carnage. Increasingly though we see players respond to younger managers with some presence like alonso, inzaghi, and even arteta.

Bruno was 55 million euros and Gyokeres is allegedly available for 60-70 million euro.

ETH stubbornness, not lack of charisma ultimately cost him in my opinion.

No idea how he will take to the league and all the pressures that come with being United manager… but it’s so good to have a manager with some personality again.

More than at any other club I feel as though it’s so important at United currently.

Hopefully he can stay on his tactics, kick out the players who cannot suit his play of style..

It's a genuinely exciting appointment, but I hope he goes all in and sticks to his values.

If it works brilliant, if it doesn't that's OK, but atleast try. Ten Hag came in and spent the whole time saying he needs yet more medicore Ajax players before he can implement his vision and in the end never came close to having any sort of structure beyond trying to survive for a few more months. Pointless

Debast will be the best IMO. He impresses me the most. Technically sound, his passing is so creative for a CB, he also has a nice shot that he needs to use more often. Scored a screamer against Lille in the CL. His problem is his over confidence. His errors are not because of his limitations but because he's too cocky and sometimes he overplays it. He's very young and I think that with playing time and experience he will become one of the top CBs in Europe.

Only my personal opinion of course but I'd put Inácio at second. Quality, ball playing CB, great passing, he has been playing at high level from such young age and he has been an integral part of this successful period of Sporting and is now cementing his place in our NT. It's a matter of time until he moves.

I put Diomande at third because although he has the best physical tools of all our CBs, he's a bit raw sometimes and error prone. Of course he's also very young and will evolve with experience and the right environment. I put him at third but if he fixes some of the concentration lapses, positioning errors and keeps evolving, he probably has the potencial to become the best of the 3.

Quaresma is a decent and serviceable CB who can play many positions. He's a good squad player. Dunno if he is top European club material but he has been good for Sporting and played a vital role in our two league wins. Everybody says that he's a great guy to be around, with good personality and positive influence in the dressing room. I think clubs need a player like him. Not a surefire starter but dependable when called upon and with great character.

Thanks, appreciate the insight!
