Round of 16 | Switzerland vs Italy | Germany vs Denmark

Scammaca is horrendous. How do you go from the likes of Vieri, del piero, inzaghi, totti, delveccio to a west ham reject leading the line. What happened Italy?

Ndoye is one of the players of the tournament for me . Silky and quick a rare combo

Hard to play well when you are carrying 20 kilos extra in your underpants. Also the stink doesn't help probably

Di Lorenzo is a solid player, the problem is Nico broke him
I'm really a bit shocked about your team. Are there at least some promising players coming through, or is this going to take a while?

@Markolan post is doing down in the hall of fame thread. Slating all the Swiss players who then comprehensively outplay Italy.

Freuler, Ndoye and Aebischer were all regulars for Bologna finishing 4th weren't they which was a massive over achievement so they all had better individual seasons than say Cristante for Roma or Di Lorenzo for Napoli.
I'm disappointed in Italy, I really did think they were better than this and were just slow starters in the tournament (and Spain will destroy anyone on their day, so i didn't take much from that game)

I wonder how Switzerland vs England would play out. They play some nice combinations and have a compact shape.

Italy are an embarrassment. That squad is just terrible. What has happened to their football school?

Betting and injuries.

Tonali and Zaniolo should've been key players in this tournament.

Chiesa was brilliant in 2021 but the ACL injury looks to have curtailed his quality at the very highest level.

They are also another nation that just dosen't produce great strikers anymore. Moise Kean was a big hope 2-3 years ago but didn't even reach Balotelli level in club football. Scamacca wouldn't even make the squad if he was around in the 90s/2000s.

They still have decent defensive players but the rest is very poor compared to what they usually have in tournaments. Not a lock they make the next World cup unless they get an easy qualifying group.

Probably something similar to this game but England have more individual ability to influence the game.

I mean yes there are good players coming up in theory, but also most of these guys are good. They're just completely bereft of confidence

kyle walker is easily player of the tournament. he’s got his wife and mistress over in germany, watching him play.

They're the exact type of team England struggle against. Compact, physical, technical and with just enough quality to nick a goal or two.

I'll have to take your word for it. But right now they look shocking.

Italy are more flat out there than we are. 2 goals down and they are literally walking around the pitch

I don’t understand how Italy are trying to play this game. The Swiss look well drilled but feels like Italy didn’t even come with a plan?

Italy have been a disappointment i know Injuries to Sacalvini , Berardi and No Tonali not helped. But lack of a left footed winger and a top striker been a problem. Scamacca has all the tools to be a top striker but not turned up this Euros. This is the most un Spalletti team I have seen playing nothing like his Roma and Napoli teams. Swiss are not even that good and making them look like 2002 Brazil. If Spain don’t get any injuries they will win this tournament comfortably.

Neither do they.

I was going to say England have got a really easy draw again on paper but Switzerland are a much harder draw than Italy based on the tournament so far.

I dont get to see Donnaruma play much but he always really impresses me when I do. Makes some amazing saves, gets down really well for such a big lad and seems pretty dominant in the air too. I dont know what he's like with the ball at his feet but I'm one of those old fashioned people that puts that low on my list of priorities for a keeper.

He's still only 25 too, as much as I know it won't happen I'd love to be able to see him play week in week out for United. After a season of watching Onana fall on one knee or go down in installments for any low shot it really is refreshing. Who knows, if we make it back to the top maybe it could time well for him leaving PSG and us getting rid of Calamity Onana?
