Round of 16 | Switzerland vs Italy | Germany vs Denmark

I feel like Germany look better with Can on the field, even though he moves like a barge and was an emergency replacement.

Andrich must have had a hell of a season for Leverkusen, but he just seems to be a pure destroyer and a bit of a clumsy clogger with the ball at his feet.

If Denmark stood a chance they needed to do their damage in the first 60 mins. They typically run out of very fast beyond that point in the game. I give them no hope really, if they’re chasing the game while they’re basically running on fumes.

I love how people on here shit on Oliver because they are biased while they at the same time have no idea about the rules.

Let me quote from the laws of the game:

Law 5: The referee.

2. Decisions of the referee
Decisions will be made to the best of the referee's ability according to the Laws of the Game and the 'spirit of the game' and will be based on the opinion of the referee who has the discretion to take appropriate action within the framework of the Laws of the Game.

Now please tell me in what universe that handball decision is in the spirit of the game?

This is what pisses me off when the refs say they have to give a handball in these situations. It’s literally in the rules that they should be interpreted in the spirit of the game.

Rudiger is such a shithouse what the feck is he doing

VAR is one of the (many) reasons I don't follow football much, these days. Made the sport worse not better.

It's so funny how Rudiger dupes the refs time and again with that nonsense. He can clear that ball without the big swing. If anything, he needlessly makes contact with the Denmark player.

You mean like when he annulled the goal and ignored Sane getting tripped when he was through for a tap in on an empty goal?

Offside is a factual call, the penalty is just the UEFA line, we see calls like that in the CL all the time, there is little leeway for defenders.

It was just bad luck for the Danse to get two such calls in such quick succession.

That yellow card for Ba (i think?)

I don't agree with going back to the "deliberate" handball rule as that gives defenders a huge advantage when making their bodies bigger. However the distance the ball has travelled has to be taken into consideration. Andersen was inches away from the bloke crossing the ball.

It's a shame Germany is in such a horrible side of the draw, they would easily breeze to the final if they were on the other side. I don't think they can get past Spain. Spain/Italy has always been their biggest nemesis.

Referees need to be given licence to use common sense and not a dumbass application of the rule
