Round of 16 | Switzerland vs Italy | Germany vs Denmark

No they're not.

This is absolutely stupid.

You either get all the fans out and the players, or neither.

Dortmunds stadium is gigantic, you would have to defy physics for lightning to basically ignore every metallic object in the stadium of 10 storeys high and somehow hit a player.

Every example of incidents involving lightning have been in stadiums with practically no elevation.
This was my immediate reaction too, but I'm not a physics expert

So now we can see that football stadiums aren’t designed for that amount of rain. The amount of shit that old Trafford got that time was so stupid.

We're not the only club in Europe with a waterfall, Dortmund have three!

We can't even get that right. :annoyed: Glazers.

I just hope they wont block the roads again in Dortmund if Germany wins. On wednesday when Turkey won, they closed Borsigplatz and other main roads to celebrate, had to walk home from my work for over an hour (second fekin shift). I don't mind celebrations and I will very much join, but just don't block the freakin roads people. I really don't understand how Polizei can allow such a thing, especially on working days.

but, the fans can simply go inside?

Hail is a far more acceptable reason to stop play.

At that point though there was no hail.

For context, if the pitch wasn't 10 storeys high, then taking the players off would have been a good decision.
Amazing that you don't think a lightning storm is sufficient enough to postpone match.

Not every lightning strike obeys your physics argument.

The screen display near the Denmark fans is a message in Danish telling them why the game is suspended. Nice touch.

Germany is just a far better team than Denmark. It is the first time in this tournament that we are facing a team that is so many levels above us.

This does not mean that Denmark cannot win. It's still 0-0. And occasionally even Leeds win a game.

Lightning kinda moves off somewhere else pretty sharpish does it not? It's probably halfway to Munich by now.

Yes, in every example i could find the stadiums were about 10m in height max, with one block height of seats, maybe two.

Dortmunds stadium is about 10 storeys height and the largest stadium in Germany.

The fans are in far more danger than the players.
How about not taking any chance?

It’s been a pretty even game after the first 5 mins or so.

If this image is realistic and not edited, it pretty much sums up what would happen - The lightning hits the tall metallic structure, not the guy standing 1.85m above ground level with far less conductivity.
You don't really have a clue how this works, right?

But what if the lightning thinks: "Feck him."

Give me one example, just one example of lightning choosing to hit a person rather than a 80m metallic structure within a 50m radius?

If what you say is true then our advanced electronics, aviation mechanisms are all obsolete.

Thor not happy with Oliver's decision but I thought it was a good one. Well spotted in real time while most missed it, sort of thing that would've been picked up by VAR but for once Oliver did good.

Denmark has to hold a record of some kind in the games getting stopped in euros category by now.
