Round of 16 | Switzerland vs Italy | Germany vs Denmark

If this image is realistic and not edited, it pretty much sums up what would happen - The lightning hits the tall metallic structure, not the guy standing 1.85m above ground level with far less conductivity.
You do know how lightning work? It doesn't always hit highest point.

If I was a player, I would walk off the pitch if someone said you need to play.

How about not taking any chance?

There is more chance of a sinkhole opening up on the field swallowing up all the players.

If you're saying there's a chance of this happening then all modern radar, lidar, electronic signals and long range electronic warfare are all impossible.

That's ok. They can play tomorrow morning

good luck getting germans working on a sunday. someone would need to submit a request to the worker’s council, who will then ask why it has to be a sunday.

Hail is a far more acceptable reason to stop play.

At that point though there was no hail.

For context, if the pitch wasn't 10 storeys high, then taking the players off would have been a good decision.
There’s no reason whatsoever to play through a lightning storm.

In the U.S. we clear the field & stadium if lightning is within 10 miles & you can’t resume play until 30 minutes has passed since the last strike.

What you’re suggesting is begging for someone to die

Give me one example, just one example of lightning choosing to hit a person rather than a 80m metallic structure within a 50m radius?

If what you say is true then our advanced electronics, aviation mechanisms are all obsolete.

I thought you just shoot the clouds until the threat has been neutralized?

I literally addressed this 2 pages ago.

The fecking stadum is 1 block of seats. It's barely a stadium. It's sitting at 5-10m of elevation...at most.
You have no idea what you're talking about. You simply don't.

There's ignorant posts & then there's yours.

It’s absolute nonsense to suggest that lightning is dsngerous. Next thing people will be suspending games if there’s a fire in the stadium FFS.

I agree with you that clearing the stadium here was the right call.

The US is very different though, in that a lot of your stadia don’t have a roof.
