I see your biased colours, shining through. I see your bias colours and that's why he hates you. So don't be afraid to let them show, your biased colours, biased colours.

There'd been talk even before the season started that he's the best player Everton have ever brought through, Everton fans suggesting that academy coaches consider him better than Rooney, and David Moyes has previously said he would have made his debut last year (likely as a 16 year old) if it wasn't for his leg break. Scored for the u16s as a 14 year old...I don't know if that's common but it sounds impressive anyway.

Right. Has he played for the first team this season yet? If so, how did he do?

He played the first few games of the season which is what sparked the hype on here.

Had his debut in Everton's first game of the season, played on the left for the first 60 and on the right for the last 30, and was their most influential player throughout. Won MOTM. Always willing to take a chance to try and make something happen, gifted dribbler, very assured touch, found space very intelligently, basically looked a bit special...in the grand scheme of things he was a little wasteful, though. Not sure how he was in the other two games he's played.

Pogba has outshone him so far in the reserve game tonight.

Because the only reason he was playing for the first team was that Everton had a few injuries at the start of the season.

Why is he playing in the reserves?

Because he's 17 and he spent the whole of last year out with a triple leg break, was definitely outshone by Pogba today though. Barkley looks like he has something about him but the media aren't doing him any favours by linking him with big money moves when he clearly needs a few years to develop and he'll struggle to find any place better to do so than Everton.

He was also not good against us. Lost the ball numerous times by trying fancy stuff or just by being stupid. Looks like he believes his own hype.

rumours that chelsea are willing to splash £10 million on him

It's kind of a case like Morrison with you...in the sense that he is too good for youth and reserve level but the manager is reluctant to start playing him consistently in the first team (should really put him on in the second half against Wolves if we are winning). He was a beast against QPR earlier in the season.

If he stays with us i could see him getting more game time next season. Really needs to make the step up now or he won't reach his potential.

He probably suffers from Moyes' love of buying midfielders and his preference for hard working, solid players, rather than players who might lose the ball through inexperience. Looks a real talent, though.

He is nothing like Morrison in that sense though. He could've been a part of the first team if he didn't have such an horrible attitude to training and football, in general.

Yeah, he's a playmaker first and foremost and a very good one at that, but he's not going to learn the defensive side of the game by pissing over others in the reserves or getting over his head. The first team experience will allow him to improve his defensive game.

Both are/were too good for youth/reserve football. Both haven't had a decent run in the first team, so they are the same in THAT sense which is what i said. I didn't say anything about attitude.

But rumours are that Barkley has had bust-ups with Moyes over not getting into the first team so.

With Gimp Cheese's impending move to Juve probably about to happen any day now........I would really love if we bought this bloke.
Been compared to Robson and Gerrard!
He looked the part in his debut against QPR at the start of last season.
Pogba dominated him in the reserve game against Everton Reserves this season but Pogba is a year ahead of him at this level.
Has anyone been able to see him at reserve level for Everton this year? Maybe Fergie wants to see Tunnicliffes progress first before even thinking of this guy!

He's more like Robson and Jerome.

Like i have said before about him, he is too good for reserve level. He broke his leg in 2010 which meant he was out until the start of this season just past, so Moyes kept him in the reserve to redevelop/develop the game time that he missed due to the injury and to strengthen in key areas. He's now starting to be too fancy and hollywood instead of being simple in his game at reserves because he knows like most that he should be in the first team.

He has a contract till 2016 and i expect him to feature more next season as i believe he'll only be here for another 2/3 years.

yet he could barely get a game for Everton

I'm just being realistic - and getting minutes in the premier league for Everton is very different to getting premier league minutes at United

Rooney was playing regularly at 18 and was worth the 20-odd million we paid for him

the likely transfer fee for Barkley would be 15-20 million which would be very foolish IMO for someone who hasn't really broken through

not too long ago people on here were bigging up Rodwell as a future star and willing to spend big on him - he's faded into the background at Everton

Maybe this kid is the next rooney/gerrard but if he was I would have expected him to have featured a lot more

thats hardly unreasonable?

£30m for Rodwell and Barkley should do it. All the bargains we've thrown them since the Rooney deal, they should just give us them instead of holding them back and then we can buy Modric with that £30m instead and loan Barkley back to them for a year until Scholes and Giggs do retire. [/FMLogic]

Fergie decided they weren't above Rafael and Park for a central midfield slot.

Barkley is a hugely talented lad. I don't think what you're saying is unreasonable no. Alot could happen, or not happen, with him yet.

why should we even consider him over someone like petrucci?

You see, this is what I don't get, why pay £30M, or £20M or whatever, plus wages, for a couple excellent prospects what we could pay Pogba what he wants and save enough cash to buy, say, Modric, or whoever we want.

It doesn't make much sense to me.

Because if Modric fails....it's another Berbatov, so essentially a big loss. Because he'd be 30 by the time we'd be ready to let that ship sail.

Rodwell and Barkley fail, they are still in the early 20's and English, so probably get like 50-70% of what you paid. Theres logic in it.

Though I don't think Modric would fail really, just using a wild example, and I'd prefer him. But I do, for Englands sake, want to see those two at a higher level, if Moyes goes to Spurs, I could see him using the Modric money to bring them with him.

Could say the same about Powell...we have a habit of buying young talent.

I doubt we'd get Ross for the same sort of price mind. If he's got a shed load of quality Fergie will test the water.

true and I'm kinda ho hum about it because it stands to reason that other clubs will be able to give their kids games. We're under more pressure to bide our time.

thats exactly the point

and if we paid for arguments sake 15 million pounds for Barkley or someone like that I doubt he'd be paid 20k a week

he'd be demanding a decent starting wage I imagine

thats assuming the pogba thing is an issue of money
