Ross Barkley

Would like to see us go for him. Only realistic way of us catching up with the top 3 in Europe is for a string of young players to turn out to be exceptional. We'll never buy our way to closing the gulf - every summer these three clubs buy better players than us.

Which clubs are buying better?

Last season United signed the best player in the PL, from within the PL too no less.

He has definitely came of age this season due to the loans which helped him hugely, physically making him a beast and nurtured his driven attitude when he has the ball. I do think he deserved more of an opportunity than he was given last year though.

What's this rumour about Barkley not being totally au fait with Moyes? Had an Everton fan tell me that Barkley hates him and that Moyes only played him because the fans were on his case.

We needed, and still need, more than just that to close the gap on them though. And because they, themselves will not stand still, we still need to up it in order to equal them. Both have bought players for more than £60m this summer for example.

Sir Alex said in his interview with Charlie Rose the other week that "players always remember the man who gave them their first-team debut, it breeds a special kind of loyalty" and Barkley has gone on to say this:
‘Every day I had been at Everton, David Moyes was there and everything I did was based around trying to impress people so they would tell him.

‘I owe (Moyes) everything. He brought me on as a player and looked after me when I had broken my leg. I was out for a while with a hernia and a broken foot, too

Moyes was just trying to teach Barkley to be a more disciplined player and was probably being hard on him just because he knew he was a special talent. And he reiterated the fact he thinks he's a special talent in that post-match interview at the weekend which refutes any suggestions that that he didn't really rate him that highly or that he was only saying it before because all managers wax lyrical about their own.

That is the least likely selection scenario I think Ive ever heard.

Typical shite from Everton fans who now love to hate Moyes, despite all he did for them. Embarrasing.

I really find it bizarre. A lot of them seem to downright hate him

Yeah. When someone leaves you after many many years of service as he seeks to progress his career, you should be supporting him unless he moves to your rival, and at the very least not hate him, which Everton fans seem to be doing right now. They'll miss Moyes once Baines and Distin move on and Martinez has to build a defence. He's not very good at that.

A lot of fans believe that Moyes knew all along that United would go for him which is why he ran his contract down.

Don't see what's wrong with that. Would you rather he sign a new contract and leave 6 months later?

I'm not fussed, I'm happy with Martinez now and the only way I dislike Moyes is his handling of Fellaini/Baines in the summer, I think he could have played that a little better.

My best mate is an Evertonian and absolutely despises Moyes.

I'd probably go with this myself, I don't buy into Moyes claiming he'd no idea...

It also played into the Glazer's hands to get Moyes for nothing.

You sure your best mate isn't made up?

Sack him. Man hasn't a clue. MOYES OUT

Said when we appointed him he was the wrong man and now it's even more apparent. Moyes. Out

Someone who actually knows what they are doing. Moyes is playing crap football and looks like a rabbit in headlights. Some of the players already look like they don't want to play for him. He won't last till Christmas at this rate, it's not 1986. Sooner some folk realise that the better. He was never the man for the job. Out.

Why would you despise someone though for honouring a contract and leaving at the end of it? I wish more people did the same

Because it deprived them of compensation which would be in millions and is significant money for Everton? Simple really. And you wouldnt be saying the same if our players started running down contracts to leave on the free.

Why is he a clown? The guy he quoted quite obviously does not like Moyes. Would it be out of the realms of possibility that his everton mate doesnt exist? How did you get promoted is what I want to know.

Er, I'm pretty sure Bebe is agreeing with Abou, and referring to stand_free.

I would have no issues with Rooney say if he honoured the duration of his contract and left on a free after 10-11 years of service. That's what contracts are for. That's like O2 being pissed off with you for not signing another phone contract and switching to Vodafone. feck them. When your times up you do as you please.

I've always been on the sceptical side of things with Barkley but I have to admit he's looking very much like proving me wrong at the moment. He seems like a very different player to the youngster who first started attracting media hype a couple of years ago.

I think the changes in his physique have a lot to do with it. He always looked oddly disjointed in his play when he was younger, as if he was having to work very hard to make his body keep up with what his brain wanted it to do. As a result he didn't get his head up enough and his decision making was sometimes very poor. It was especially noticeable in comparison to the top young English player coming through at that time, Wilshere, who has always had absurdly good vision, head always up, and looked very natural and balanced with the ball.

Now, though, it's like Barkley's body and his style of play have come fully into alignment. He looks so much more natural running with the ball, and there's none of that hunched, tunnel vision quality which used to limit how he was able to use his prodigious technical ability. His vision and awareness look excellent now - that clever back-heel to Baines against Newcastle is a good example of that.

Stupid comparison. Unlike a phone contract, its millions of dollars in question here. There's a reason why we convinced Ronaldo to sign an extension thus ensuring we got a proper fee even though he was going to leave anyways. Saying it'd have been fine had he just left on a free because he honored the contract is extremely naive and not the way football runs.

There is mostly a difference of an order of magnitude between the compensations for a top manager and top players. I still don't see why Everton are so wound up about losing out on a couple of million quids. Yes, they aren't exactly flowing in money, but I'm sure they can manage, and specially after a decade of service. He more than made up for it by overpaying for Fellaini anyway. The Everton fans might be more upset at his comments asking Everton to sell Baines and Fellaini, when he in the same position would not have done so, he did sound like a hypocrite in that interview.

Ofcourse there is but Everton arent a Manchester United. For them, even 4-5mil is a great amount. Am not arguing against him giving them great service and the leeway it should get him but as he ran down his contract and left for nothing, ofcourse they'l be peeved about it. To simply claim contracts are meant to be honored and leaving on a free is acceptable just because its some other club that got fecked because of it is in bad taste. We'd be angry too if something similar happened to us.

Nope, we regularly take a hit while selling our players so that they can go to the clubs of their choice. Everton's very own Darron Gibson is an example. Also, it's okay to be a little peeved about him letting his contract run down and leave, some Everton fans were almost being as happy as Liverpool fans with his early struggles. Still feel their anger has more to do with his comments regarding Baines and Fellaini than him running down his contract and leaving.

Ah, no we wouldn't. Managers come and go. That's it, player contracts are different and even then so what? Why the hell should you pay money to sign a manager from another club? That's ridiculous. If someone doesn't want to be at your club then move on. Stop having a cry about it.
