Rooney - Wants to stay next season

As long as the club and Jose don't compound the problem by playing him - even just once in a while - then he is entitled to collect on the stupid contract we gave him.

I'd rather the lads from the Under 23s get the opportunity in cup games than throwing Rooney a bone now and then. Why should they be held back because Rooney can't accept he's done at this level? It's utterly selfish of him as well.
Don't know why the club tip toes around him, just be brutally honest and see what he does.

Had I known he was going to pull this stunt I wouldn't have applauded him at Carrick's testimonial:D

Now see what you've done. :nono::nono::lol::lol:

Bless him, I was feeling all benevolent that day:lol:

You know, there were also some little boys sitting in front of us with their Rooney shirt on and cheering every time he got the ball, and for their sake I was hoping like crazy he would score a goal - even if it came off his arse:D They were so disappointed every time he lost the ball.... poor little sausages:(

He's in real danger of tarnishing his reputation / legacy. He's been declining for years but now the media are all in pretty much in agreement that he's a squad player at best and finished as an England player.

Mostly, it puts to bed all this 'street footballer', 'loves the game', 'only wants to play' etc. I don't blame him for not wanting to throw a lot of money away but it's not a good end to such a great carer.

It will end up people pitying him and that is not how a club career should end.:(

Am I the only one who is not feeling much sad even if he stays. He is not getting into the team. Won't gain anything by staying here. Wont be in contention for 2018 WC. It is his loss.
It is not like he goes on breaking people's legs in training.

Yeah, I know we have to pay the wages, but we gave him a contract (right or wrong decision) and we need to pay for it.

Simple. That's all we have to do.

If we refuse to do so, we can't complain if someone collects money legally owed to them as per what a contract stipulates.

Whats the difference for us? We pay him and he bimbles around in the reserves or we pay him and he pays for another club. It's up to Rooney.

One thing I am certain of - Mourinho won't have him as Club Captain next season. It will be Mourinho's way of making absolutely clear that Rooney has been told the score.

Yeah that is sad. I don't know if you watched it, but there was this uncomfortable feeling where I was sitting amongst us supporters watching him. He really looked like he'd already retired, and everyone seemed to know it.

Of course they would. What's the point of having an inanimate turd as a captain?

No they wouldn't wise up mate, less than a month ago Mourinho publicly declared he would be ''very happy'' if Rooney decides to stay next season. You think just a few weeks later he and the club would publicly strip him of the captaincy to try to force him out?

Whether Mourinho actually wants Rooney to stay or not it's clear Jose and the club will not force him out, if he leaves it will be Rooney's decision.

The could keep him as club captain, but have a team captain. No good having a captain and vice-captain who will rarely be on the pitch.

Well thats effectively what happened last season and in the past with Robson and Neville. Rooney will stay club captain and a first teamer will become team captain.

You believe that? I believe he's had offers but doesn't want to leave England. Tho admittedly I'm going on absolutely nothing other than the fact US and Chinese clubs always seem willing to take on washed up players from the PL.

They're not stupid. Players like oscar. Ramires. While not top rated still a decent footballer. Infact they're still a good player and fit the naratives of image building. Getting player like rooney will not fit the narative for the future, not for that amount of money.

Rooney will be found out in china/us, most of the young and hungry opposition player would love to humiliate him, he won't stand a chance against proper footballer who marks him. Only in england he got all the space and time because they know he'll bound to give away the ball one way or the other.

He'll be utterly humiliated if he pull out those performances in other league, he has the credit of being the top scorer and protection from the media, which he won't get anywhere else.

No, but we could pay every other player an extra £10k a week if he fecked off.

He stinks up the place one more season and he ruins any sort of legacy he had the pubey haired idiot.

To think we could use his wage to pay Ronaldo weekly too.

This. It makes no difference if he goes or stays. He hasn't a regular under Mourinho.

I know that. But people seem to be losing their s**t at the thought of him staying in the sidelines for another season. It's not like we are a broke club.

While I hope Rooney loses the captaincy, I just can't see Jose doing that tbh. He has said to the media that he would never try to make him leave.

Nor are we a club to whom 12m GBP means nothing. It's a huge waste.

One extra player on the roster, plus a valuable #10 shirt that could use to lure in a top player is going to get wasted on him.

I watched the game on TV. Some of the retired players looked better and fitter than him and that can't be right.

Upsets people when he wants to leave and upsets them again when he wants to stay. A sad way for our top scorer to see out his career, if he does stay for one more season.

Last year was a fairly poor season's work, playing at the start of the season, but it was very quickly clear he wasn't up to it, a couple of comedy assists (who can forget that farcical uncontrolled ricochet assist for Ibra to nod in!), a tiny handful of goals, barely getting a look in for months, and only featuring heavily again when we basically needed bodies to fulfil fixtures and rest players!

He surely cannot believe next season would be anything but a squad role, and not in a useful one like, say Robson's at 37 in the 94/95 title winning squad, when back then you only rotated say 15/16 players all season.

He wants to earn big money but at the same time stay in England. The only choice is to stay here. I dont think he cares about how much he plays as long as we pay him.

As long as they don't use him in advertising. Wear these boots and you can play like Wayne Rooney.:eek:

No, but we also aren't a home for has been footballers either. He's clearly not good enough but is trying to ostensibly tell us all he's staying because he wants to regain his place in the squad.

He doesn't care which club he is at he just wants the money - which is fine - but he'll also have to accept being treated in the manner he is.

If he's truly happy to in effect have the ideal fan experience, being paid a lot of money for a close up view of the games, then that's a pretty sad drop for a guy who was always the peak of commitment on the pitch

What can you say? People change. His priorities have changed. He has won everything. He has the record as well. He will need to work twice as hard for a smaller salary if he moves to Everton. At this point in his career, why do that when you can sit and earn 300k per week?

I honestly don't think he's lost his hunger, I think he's just a very proud man in denial. He probably really believes that he can just lose that few pounds, reinvent his game slightly, and get that goal off his arse that starts the 20 game scoring spree that proves to the world that he still has "it"... and head into the Summer of 2018 to finally be a crucial, deciding player at a big international tournament.

Basically, he's a bit delusional.

That's a sad attitude to have.

Well no one is denying it but if he really worried about his "legacy" he would have left a couple of years ago and really proved himself in another league. The moment he was dropped from the England squad due to lack of playing time, he would have come out and said he needs to play more or he is going to leave next season.
