Rooney - Wants to stay next season

I was surprised to see this news that he wants to stay and fight for his place. But if that's what he wants to do, fair enough, he is going into it with his eyes wide open so there will be no surprises if he doesnt make the team, he took it with humility last season so no reason to expect different next. He says he is going to work his arse off over the summer and be super fit for the start of the season, which kind of begs the question why was he not doing that in previous seasons? But yeah, if he can fight his way back into the team on merit, good on him. If he ends up wasting another one of the few years he has left in him sitting on the bench rather than actually playing it will be kind of sad, but if the guy doesnt like the idea of moving to the US or China then that's his choice.
He's also wasting £250k p/w of our wage budget, and also a space in our squad. He can be as fit as he wants, he's lost the ability to control a football adequately. Technically he is miles behind most of the squad now, and he looked out of depth playing with our U21s v Palace. His decision making has completely disappeared (which is surprising really, how does that disappear with diminishing physical ability?).

Its time for him to go and he needs to realise that. This isn't just last season, it's the last 3 or 4.

Interesting. Seems like he gave up on participating in the next World Cup - can't see him being called up if he isn't getting minutes. He probably shouldn't be called up anyway, but given his reputation if he'll get playing time, he probably will be.

I understand that but he is legally entitled to that wage for the remainder of his contract. So if he wants to stay and collect it and not get picked there's not much we can do about it. More fool us for offering him this contract in the first place.

As long as he doesn't play much, that's all that matters. Maybe use him in the league cup on occasions. Hopefully we sign a few attackers that will push him even further down the pecking order.

I hope United strip him off the captaincy by end of June, so he feels humiliated enough and tries to find offers.
Not even a vice-captaincy, with Jose giving an explanation that he is looking for a leader for long term.
If that doesn't get him out, nothing else will.

If he rarely plays we can just get on with it. However it is just showing how greedy he is and it isn't about playing at all.

He'll play even less than he did this season. Bizarre if he wants to stay, I really thought he'd show some ambition to try get back into the England team.

I guess there's also the fact that he can't get a good move.

Hopefully this will turn out to be an attempt to strengthen his negotiating position in trying to get the club to cover some of his wages.

If he sees out that final year of his ridiculous contract without getting a look in it will be the most undignified end to a footballing career at the top level.
and a huge bank balance for him, his family, grandkids, great grandkids, dog, cats, etc

I highly doubt Mourinho or anyone within the club would even consider doing that.

I want him out of the club.

And I want that fat piece of shit agent Paul Stretford gone too. Never do business with that monstrosity of a so called human being again.

As long as the club and Jose don't compound the problem by playing him - even just once in a while - then he is entitled to collect on the stupid contract we gave him.

I'd rather the lads from the Under 23s get the opportunity in cup games than throwing Rooney a bone now and then. Why should they be held back because Rooney can't accept he's done at this level? It's utterly selfish of him as well.
Don't know why the club tip toes around him, just be brutally honest and see what he does.

Had I known he was going to pull this stunt I wouldn't have applauded him at Carrick's testimonial:D

Can we send him to work in the megastore? At least he would be useful

The could keep him as club captain, but have a team captain. No good having a captain and vice-captain who will rarely be on the pitch.
That's the most likely scenario. Even though he's pissing me off, I think having him as club captain would be the right way to go.
