Rooney - Wants to stay next season

He can play in the two english cups next year, fine with me.
But shouldn't that be better given to youngsters? We're getting new forward & winger in so both Martial & Rashford even if they performed will find competition for gametime. Why would we give to Rooney? If this is true, then Rooney's finished. With WC coming next season & he doesn't show ambition to try to get his name in England team anymore. Also with WC as context, I am not sure thing would go as smooth as last year with Rooney camp stays peacefully the whole season. What if they suddenly want more money for the next move by getting his international back & stir thing up. Not worth risking it walking a dangerous line twice, especially now there is more on the line for us.

Edit: I don't question Rooney's own love for the club, or his commitment to give 100% whenever he is counted on; the issue is his surrounding. He seems to be the type who can be influenced by this surrounding.

why do people still think this happened?

he stated many times he never wanted to leave for city or chelsea. in fact he said he only would have joined a club abroad.

Did he say that after he signed a new contract? I think it was fairly obvious he wanted to join City and then Chelsea.

Worst transfer window ever. Woodwork is deadwood and needs to be fired. Not only messed up Griezmann transfer and delayed Morata transfer. Now this! Unacceptable standards at United.

Could have bowed out at the top but wants to bleed a little more cash out of the club for doing nothing. He deserves the jeers his lumpen displays will get next season.

Probably can't find a club to pay his massive salary.

I'm glad we're standing firm and not paying him off. Pay cut or suck it up for a year.

As long he at the required fitness level for a Premier League footballer, then what Rooney does outside of football has nothing to do with us.

Agreed, which is why it's been an issue.

I'd like to see the club call his bluff and inform Wayne that he'll get BFS treatment until he smartens himself up. Both options are extreme and neither is desirable. The true motive behind it would be about leaving the door open to negotiate terms of Rooney's contract termination. And lets be honest, it would be our club holding the upper hand against whatever's left of Rooney the footballer before the World Cup year.

I feel like it does. Especially if he remains club captain.

Edit- Moyes really buggered us with his contract didn't he? The longer Wayne stinks up the club the more he will tarnish his legacy. He was immense 2007-2011, but that player is long, long gone. Will only look worse should Ronaldo return (I believe).

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he stays now. If he does, he's virtually giving up on football. Rooney's contract extension has been Moyes' most lasting legacy at the club.

Fixed that for you.

There's absolutely no way that's not been photoshopped, he's skinnier than Jesse:lol:

Simple mathematics:

Ibra + Rooney = Ronaldo

Can't argue with that, although you could replace Rooney with BFS.

Could this not simply be a case of Rooney knowing that no other club really wants him? I mean I really cannot imagine another top club club in the Prem (and I include Everton in that) going for him and certainly not with the wages he would want.

Can't see him in China, even more so with this 100% tax thing.

Logically I guess (from his point of view) is to stay and play for Manchester United for a least one more season, may be part of a title winning (and god hoping a Champions League winning team) still be the captain and lift the trophy (like he did in the EFL and Europa finals)

I love the old Wayne Rooney. Full of passion and fight and it is a shame to see it end like this, still think he will end up staying though and retiring with us.

He was immense from 2004-2007 as well tbf.

He will stay unless he gets a better offer money wise (cant see that happening), so he will stay, unless we pay him up and that may be an option to free a space.

What evidence was there to suggest it was ''fairly obvious'' he wanted to join City in 2010?

At the time Rooney said he would have never considered it, Mancini said there was nothing to the link before Rooney renewed his contract and that it was created by the media, there wasn't a peep about it from Ferguson at the time or since in his autobiography. Considering they didn't seem to be on the best of terms in 2013, it seems like something he might have mentioned in his book.

A few iron clad sources reported it at the time. Danny Taylor of the Guardian being one.

Exactly that. Rooney has become the symbol of the post-Fergie complacency at Utd. He's hanging about for cash not for glory. Sad times.

I hope he has enough professional pride left to work himself into some real fitness.

I think he knows he's not going to get any interest while he's half a stone over weight and blowing out of his arse after 10 minutes.
He's doing an Owen Hargreaves. Desperate times call for desperate measures!

Feck me, this transfer window is quickly imploding

Did a quick search all Taylor reported back then was that City would be interested which came from an ''unnamed senior figure'' at City and besides no journalists are Iron clad sources mate. They've all spouted shit at one time or another. Fergie announced Rooney wanted to leave on a Tuesday it was only 2-3 days later he had renewed his contract. In the meantime the papers linked him to loads of teams, City was the obvious link to make to gain attention.

If there had been anything to it Mancini wouldn't have denied it back then, or would have said something about it in the 7 years since. Yet not a peep same with everyone else involved, there hasn't been anything from anyone who would have known to confirm that Rooney actually wanted to go to City or that it was anything other than a tabloid creation.

Send him out on loan to Bayern Munich, we pay his salary, and Bayern put can give him the Schweinsteiger treatment.

Schweiny's already gone. I was thinking more about the money spent on wages that would be saved and greasing the wheels for a Ronaldo move.

imagine he stayed and had a good season and we then offered him an extension hahaha
Good here would mean Worthy of his wage, which is quite demanding = unrealistic. I don't think anyone would make a big deal of Rooney especially consider his status at the club the last few years or his stay in the future, has his wage reasonably matches his performance. Again, it's too unrealistic, not that's stranger thing didn't happen. Would be amusing if it happen like that though.
