Rooney - Wants to stay next season

I thought the smiley was enough, and I haven't figured out how to make it white yet anyway.:) It would be worrying though if someone actually thought I was serious.

Thank god for that .

To do white text press the underlined A ;)

I actually do feel for him.It must be very difficult coming to terms with being washed up. It's no wonder a lot of footballers suffer from post retirement depression.
Imagine everyone at work telling you you're not good enough? Most people would be suicidal.

When asked that question about leaving, he said he has been at this club 13 years, but that of course he wants to play football. It would have been nice if he had said somewhere in there "I love this club". But I guess you don't say what you don't feel.

Am I correct in saying Rooney is in the last of his contract next season? That time has gone quick!

I don't see us offering him another contract, and his role has been reduced severely. He's not a first team starter anymore. In a season with 1000 additional problems Jose has handled Rooney very well and deserves a lot of credit in my book. At the end of the day, Jose isn't as daft as some would have you think. If we've seen Rooney has declined, you can bet Jose knows it. Van Gaal probably saw it too, but he put his misplaced faith in Rooney and consequently deluded himself into thinking Rooney would eventually find form again. But Jose knows better. If he doesn't get sold in the summer, I'd imagine he'll run down his contract. If he does get offered a new contract- it's for non footballing reasons.

One thing I don't get though, is this notion that Rooney is 'using us'. In Rooney's eyes, he's still a top player. He'll no doubt be looking at Cristiano and Zlatan playing at such a high level into their thirties, and thinking he can emulate them. Difference is they looked after themselves as model professionals should, whilst he never did. Over the years he has given plenty to the club in terms of contribution. It's not like he's coasted through his time here. He's given us vital goals in big games, match winning moments, and plenty of unselfish play to help the team on the whole.

A bit cut down to his high undeserved salary, and then sure for a one year contract.

His role now is to cover for the strikers especially if we don't have enough fit good strikers next season.

Credit to Rooney for not throwing tantrums and complaining to the press for being bench a lot.

He can still chip in goals and do have experiences. (7 goals/30+ appearances this season)

Until we replace him properly, let's make use of him until he can no longer score at all.

More young strikers from the academy should be given chances to displace him next season.

:pBlessing

Rooney just doesn't offer anything on the field at this point. He's not even reliable cover for the first team. He's routinely the worst player on the pitch and has lost the physical attributes that he had at his peak. It is what it is. Time to move on; he's just a distraction at this point, but Jose has managed this situation incredibly well.

I didn't see this as he wants to stay.

It was more of a come and get me plea.

The OP has got the wrong end of the stick.

It's irrelevant media drivel that means nothing. The fact is he's shit and is no longer part of the first team. We will be happy to sell him, and if he wants regular football he will leave.

He said what he needed to say to avoid a big media issue the day before United's most important game of the season.

He will leave United in May. There's no future for him here and he's not hard-faced enough to do a Bogarde

He has been rolling up to training at united since basically a kid, his whole life has been united, of course he wants to stay

does he ., that wasn't the case when he held the club to ransom

He is still here. He is more of a legend then basically anyone else currently playing for us. He gave every single year to Manchester United pretty much. More can be said then Ronaldo etc

Exactly. I hope :nervous:

Whilst being paid 100k more than his market contract for the past 8 years......

And 250k more in the past year.

worth him staying just to see the loons go nutty on here! you'd think he'd never done things for the club. that said, I think he will go in the summer but he should go with our blessing because he's been brilliant for United. so what he if (reportedly) asked for a move, so have others (and then gone), so what if he's paid more than pretty much everyone on the caf combined -- that's what footballers get and who here would turn daown a pay rise?
I have never understood this sort of logic .

People would be happy to see United suffer just to get a kick out of the reaction of people on the internet they have never met?

That's rather petty.

United won't really suffer if he stays here. With all the players we bring in, he won't even make the bench for most games.

Terrible for him... oh well, I guess he'll have to drive one of his flash cars back to his Cheshire mansion and sit in his swimming pool watching re-runs of his 252 goals while counting his many, many millions.

Why do people think that his wages are the difference between us remaining a mediocre side and us becoming a force in world football!
He's on 300k/week, which translates to 15m per year or ~3% of our revenue.
Which striker are you going to buy on whom you'd invest less than that or even less than double of that including transfer fee and wages and agent fee and whatnot!

It's a problem in video games.

It's stupidity. He's not holding us back in any way whatsoever. When everyone's fit he's not even making the squad.

I like how he doesn't even care when his teammates are fighting, he just stands away mostly talking friendly with some random opposition player, or arguing with ref avoiding any contact. Definition of a pussy.

United won't really suffer if he stays here. With all the players we bring in, he won't even make the bench for most games.

Pretty sure United would do much better with keeping his wages in their pocket, or spreading it to two quality players than to him while he is sitting on the stands and drinking his beer.

He came onto the pitch during the brawl and he hadn't been substituted in yet to be fair to him.

And the 2nd point is exactly what I'm talking about. You saved 15m in a year by selling him. Which player or 2 quality players are you going to bring with that sum of money- and add in agent fee and transfer fee.
The wages argument works if we are struggling to find cash to pay someone or the money we save is a significant sum in our revenue.

I really don't think having Rooney in the squad is going to affect our ability to offer two quality players the money they need. We have more than enough money to be able to afford Rooney's wages and 5 more world class players.

Yeah he's definitely a pussy for not getting involved in a fight and risking red. Stupidest post I've read this season and that's saying something considering the shitfest the caf has turned in to lately.

We have Jones for 5 years or more counting on him and hardly signing any new defenders despite him being terrible and injury prone every year. Pretty sure Rooney staying here is taking at least one player's place.

You are definitely wrong if you don't think 15m is nothing, even in today's market. Offer those 15m extra to de Gea or any other player that is choosing between us and some other team and you'll see how much it means.

Where would he go in all seriousness?

I genuinely think he has psychological issues and he won't want to leave the bubble he has built around himself in the last 15 years. He won't go to America. He won't go to China. He won't go anywhere in Europe. Do Everton want him? Would he want Everton? Will he sit on his wages and be a cheerleader from the bench?

I think this Rooney situation is a lot more complicated than it seems.

Because defending your teammates means you are getting involved in the fight and getting red card? Have you seen that our other players were involved without anyone risking cards? There's mature way of being involved, there's idiotic way(Valencia and Bailly), and there's pussy that is our captain.

So, you are agreeing with him then?

A) We'd never offer anyone an extra 15m.
B) Considering the type of money we're paying players like Zlatan, it's pretty obvious we can afford to throw whatever we want at whoever we want irrespective of if Rooney is at this club or not. Keeping Bastian around on huge wages and a cheerleader role didn't harm our ability to pay Mkhi, Pogba and Zlatan .
