Sign of a man who's given up and just prepared to collect the pay cheque for the next couple of years.

His mates on holiday with him look trimmer and fitter.
Ed must feel like a mug.

This, realistically he knows he's so far past it that it's untrue. But its OK because apparently Everton etc etc etc all want him.

Yeah OK.

Those photos are a complete disgrace.
He has no muscle tone in his chest at all, how is that possible for a professional footballer?
If he returns to preseason looking like that I sincerely hope that Mourinho gives him the Schweinsteiger treatment.

I thought a newspaper had said he was already back in training and really focused on proving he had a role at United. What training? What role? Hospitality manager?

Bastian looked fitter than this.

What does he do in the gym?
I cannot believe a professional footballer not having any muscle definition.
I haven't been to the gym in months and I have some.

It's borderline offensive to the fans now that he is openly flaunting his beer gut and drinking literally a week before we head on Tour.

Terrible post.

If it was the intention of the club to sell him they would have included that in projected budgetary costs. they would recoup a fee which can be used for CAPEX and also the wage would could be used as OPEX.

Nobody was saying we can't absorbe the contract commitment as well as invest in other players. I was merely suggesting it would be more beneficial for us to not have the cost going into any more tax periods or payroll

Not sure what computer games your playing
That is his default post on anything Rooney related.

Best ignored.

People with medical knowledge please educate me.
Is the genetics excuse really a thing?

aint a Rooney fan and have stated he should have been sold 3/4 seasons ago, but christ i have seen plenty of pics of him bigger then what he is just now, hes on holiday, cant see any ones problem with this. thats the point of pre season to get the pounds off you put on during the holidays.

Kind of agree with this. He doesnt look great but he's on holiday. He said he was going to come back early for pre season - but not this early. There'll be plenty of time to give him shit for not being in shape, but Ill wait until the season is approaching for that. If he comes back a few weeks before everyone else as he suggested and works his arse off to get into shape for August I dont see a problem.

With all due respect this is bullshit and ignores context.
This is a player that's supposed to be fighting for his future.
How often do you see professional footballers looking like that.
Only one I can remember in the last few years is Higuain and he got a lot of shit for it.

He never looks any fitter during the season though. Have you seen footballers on holiday? They don't look like him. As someone said there is no muscle definition anywhere. Chest, legs anywhere. Fergie sent him off to a training facility at Nike's headquarter because he came back fat and that was years ago. He will struggle to get any weight off. He does himself no favours at all. He is flaunting it now.

I named world class players. You admitted yourself he didn't perform at the top level as long as some mentioned names, or reach their heights. Thus he was a great player, never world class.

In my opinion, he never came close to the heights of Kaka at AC Milan, Ronaldinho at Barca (although brief). This is without considering Messi, Ronaldo and then a tier below in Ibra, Neymar, Muller, Robben.

Strange logic mate, not as long as some but longer than others. Some of the names you mentioned only had a few world class seasons themselves like Kaka or Ronaldiniho.

Rooney was world class, all this rewriting of history is just bitter bollocks. You would have done well to find a United fan who wouldn't have thought Rooney wasn't one of the worlds best players 6-7 years ago.

I don't think the club were idiots in keeping him. He was still a good productive player and the club at the time post Fergie couldn't really afford to lose another important figure.

It should have never been a 5.5 year contract though. No one could have predicted such a sharp decline, but he was always going to decline to some extent once he got over 30 given his body type and the very young age he started playing at. So giving him a contract on huge wages until 32-33 wasn't the greatest business decision the club has ever made.

He's got about the same body shape of Tevez, and Rooney was once both faster and stronger than Tevez - when they approached 30, Tevez was miles ahead. Rooney has not taken care of himself.

Even if there was a club willing to take him, I am not sure he would pass the medical. We should pay out his contract.

With his physicality he should be spending the summer in the gym and working his balls off so that he joins up for preseason fit and ready to go, not turning up overweight and needing to get into shape.

This isn't anything new for him either, it's the main reason why he's physically shot at the age he is.

Rooney was probably world class but only for a short time. You look at the Ronaldo/Messi's of this world and they work like hell to stay at the top. Rooney got self satisfied with his lot and became complacent. Just thinking he could pull those moments of brilliance out of nowhere whenever he wanted. Those moments have disappeared with his fitness.

The thing with Rooney though, is that he always has been stocky, body wise and had natural strength without having to get ripped at the gym. Now that he's declined in pretty much all areas though, I highly doubt there's anything much he can do in the gym that would bring him back to any sort of acceptable level. His body is shot.

Can you explain the point of this to me?

We keep him and have a homegrown a squad player, or let him go and still pay him the full amount?

You're basically saying that we're actually better off paying him out instead of keeping him, because that seems crazy, regardless of how poor he has become.

Don't worry lads. He should be ready to play by 2018.

Rooney on holiday
Pictures of Rooney in Ibiza are causing a stir with United fans about his perceived lack of fitness.

United are due back on July 8 for medical tests.

Jesus fecking Christ what a disgrace he is

Its certainly a possibility yes.

Not really surprising. He never gave a feck about his body and always looked like that off-season. It's the main reason for him being finished in his early 30ies.

prob alot if honest, but unless there high profile players it get ignored. hes still got 2 weeks before hes due back i just read so whats to stop him going back 5 days early and battering the fitness in ?

Do professional footballers not have clauses in their contracts requiring them to maintain a certain level of fitness? Covenants that require a minimum BMI or recovery rate or anything like that? Again, I cant imagine it would be applicable int he close season period, but once the season starts? What Im getting at is, if he isnt playing next season and is still completely out of shape, would there be a possibility the club could terminate his contract on the basis that he was no longer up to the minimum required level of fitness? It seems surprising in a way if there isnt, but I cant think of a precedent.

Knowing Wayne he will do that. Go in the gym, work hard, go home and down a burger and stella because he is gagging after the hard work.

Re the beach photo. He's always looked that way. Tells us feck all about how fit he is, compared to previous seasons. Although you could argue that the fact he's always looked that way is why his career at the highest leve seems to be over far younger than the vast majority of his peers.
