Rooney - Wants to stay next season

Never reached the heights of peak kaka, iniesta, Xavi, ronaldinho, Henry, RvP, Suarez, Seedorf (the list goes on). Truly world class players.

You are underrating Rooney there. I wouldn't say he was as good as every player on that list and his peak certainly didn't last as long as some of them. But he was world class.

Some real attempts at re-writing history here.

after the season RVP won us the league it got to a point the only time they would complete a pass to each other were the kick offs starting each half. After a CL game RVP even moaned on camera that people 'are taking up his spaces on the pitch'

In moyes season he was visibly frustrated. Plus Rooney was also better than him that season. So

A bit much, don't you think?

Nope. More than 1 and less than many is several. I'm sure there are at least 3 (RvP 2 goals vs braga and his goal vs villa) which constitutes several

Yeah there were strong links to Chelsea which Jose confirmed at the time.

Well he didn't threaten to leave, he actually wanted to leave and asked to do so. There's a difference the club convinced him to stay, the contract he signed in 2014 was for the same basic wage that he was already on.

The City links in 2010 were media created nonsense in my opinion. Mancini said at the time there was nothing in it.

Hmm fair enough. I misremember. We were idiots to not let him go then.

We weren't idiots that we didn't let him go, as although he was declining he was still a big player for us. We were idiots for how much we paid him and the length of the contract we gave him. We were right to try and keep him, but not to bend to the extent we did. Moyes is an idiot and Woodward was new to the role so we shafted ourselves.

Utd Ambassador ? Ambassadors are usually capable of putting a couple coherent sentences together .

How many of our ambassadors have you heard speak our of interest?
Just turning up and waving is most of the job.

The fact that we are spending most of our time debating how good Rooney was or wasn't when he is still an active member of our squad sums it up really

True that.

The annual Rooney debate will rage on and on untill the day he finally gets the message and clears off. In any case, it's kinda fun discussing the fundamental issues that encompass Wayne Rooney. Although most of the essentials have been raised and dealt with such as salary, ability, how many fags he smokes a day, how many burgers consumed weekly and/or body-fat percentage in relation to body mass, one important aspect is still yet to be raised, namely hair loss.

There's some pictures of him on holiday on utdreport/mail. It's incredible how he's considered an athlete with the physique he currently has. Our highest paid player can't keep himself in shape.

What's that black furry thing attached to him?

I don't think the club were idiots in keeping him. He was still a good productive player and the club at the time post Fergie couldn't really afford to lose another important figure.

It should have never been a 5.5 year contract though. No one could have predicted such a sharp decline, but he was always going to decline to some extent once he got over 30 given his body type and the very young age he started playing at. So giving him a contract on huge wages until 32-33 wasn't the greatest business decision the club has ever made.

Where's the square chest, visible abs, toned arms? I'm not asking him to look like prime Arnold but average gym goers would be disappointed with that physique.

Shocking. He always was prone to gaining a few pounds on holidays, but this is a body of a 40-years old beer enthusiast.

Haha. I looked at that pic and thought, "Hey I've seen that body before...in the mirror."

I named world class players. You admitted yourself he didn't perform at the top level as long as some mentioned names, or reach their heights. Thus he was a great player, never world class.

In my opinion, he never came close to the heights of Kaka at AC Milan, Ronaldinho at Barca (although brief). This is without considering Messi, Ronaldo and then a tier below in Ibra, Neymar, Muller, Robben.

He was a mercenary when he signed up in 2004. Remember once a blue always a blue. Most footballers are, but if we were in their shoes we would do the same thing.
I don't know about you but a lot of the people won't. There are number of examples where footballers didn't take a big pay day because either they were loyal to club or thought maybe that playing football was more important than the numbers in bank account .
If money was the case then all the big players would be playing in China. Yet we only see a few go there.

I can assure you that Park Ji Sung and Bryan Robson are not among them. They are actively doing a lot of things for us. Please Google

It's absolutely unbelievable how Ronaldo did all he did and got a free pass from our fans. His behaviour in 2008 was just ridiculously bad and not close to Rooney doing what he did. Ronaldo got a new contract out of the whole scenario as well. Ronaldo went public with his complaints, kept up his nonsense during the Euoros, allegedly refused to meet Fergie for a while and then had to be convinced to stay for one more season and got a new contract out of all of it. Rooney never went public with anything he did.
But defending Rooney for the same thing makes you just as much a hypocrite as the people defending Ronaldo and slamming Rooney.

Wasn't he already back training apparently?

I think the 'reports' said that he's training on his own while his family continue the vacation, so apparently not at Carrington anyway. It was probably just some of his friends in the press pushing the narrative and trying to engage some potential buyers.

There are a number of factors arent there. If money was the only consideration youre right, China would be the obvious choice. But there is also the lifestyle factor, which China doesnt score well in. This is why for much of this season I have always suspected he'd go the MLS route: it scores well with both the money and lifestyle factors. Like baby bear's porridge, it isnt too salty and it isnt too sweet, it is just right.

Or so I thought. Seems like Rooney, unlike Goldilocks, likes his porridge sweet.

He has Love handles??? That is disgusting for a professional footballer.
