Rooney - Wants to stay next season

When it was clear RVP wasn't wanted he was paid off on good terms. Don't think Jose wants him out that bad, just wont get used unless necessary

Terrible post.

If it was the intention of the club to sell him they would have included that in projected budgetary costs. they would recoup a fee which can be used for CAPEX and also the wage would could be used as OPEX.

Nobody was saying we can't absorbe the contract commitment as well as invest in other players. I was merely suggesting it would be more beneficial for us to not have the cost going into any more tax periods or payroll

Not sure what computer games your playing

I love Rooney and everything he has done for the club. I predicted he was going to come back and prove doubters wrong last season and oh how stupid I look now. I just can't understand it. Its like he has been replaced by aliens. I think it all started when he thought he could be converted to a midfielder. I think his only hope is to play as a striker with a number 10 behind him. Just stand there and shoot. He could get 15 goals plus if the team is set up to accommodate him. No one in their right mind will pay his wages except China and he won't go there. So bench player he is.

Rooney wants to stay? Well I want to date Margot Robbie and escape my depression and anxiety but that ain't happening. He will surely be at another club when the window closes.

So....... Give him a run at number 9???

Hmmm.

Not good enough. There isn't a single aspect left in his game that justifies him a spot on the bench.

I would have thought Rooney needs to play behind the main striker as he has lost a little of that speed he once had. Can't see it happening as Rooney needs regular games and JM sees better options.

If he wants to play regularly he needs to leave, otherwise he risks becoming like Winston Bogarde.

what does this actually mean?

OK I know it's not a clever idea but we're clasping at straws here. A 300 grand a week striker, captain and leading goalscorer is not going to play reserves. The only thing that he has a shred of hope left is to score goals. I mean he can score goals right? So push him out in cup games as a number 9. Tell the team to pass to him and he can finish. Putting the ball in the back of the net was our glaring weakness. Loads of opportunities but failed to actually convert the chances. Hopefully we will resolve those issues but when we have our second string team out then we need as many finishers as possible.

I saw old videos of him the other day. What a player he was. Quick, powerful, skilful, and a shot like a rocket.

He is staying. No top tier club wants him and no lower tier club can afford either a transfer fee or his wages. He still thinks he can contribute at the top level, so why would he take a paycut to go to a lesser club? He is on £300K a week at Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world. Where else would he get that?

It's not difficult to understand the concept of him accepting an offer elsewhere, say a Newcastle or Stoke on £100 k per wk, and then us making up the difference to £350 k for the last 12 months of his deal, that way we save a bit, & he still gets his full contact payed up whilst actually playing.

Of course the lack of greed, faith in his ability still, & the motivation factor, has to be there for this to work.

No he can't anymore, not at the level required from a player of his stature. He should feck off if he has a bit of dignity and try to finish the rest of his career elsewhere.

My hope for the last 4 years was that people would stop all the hype over Rooney and see that he is over-rated and not main man material. Now it seems even his staunchest fans can see that to be true, even if its kind of late.
I trust that those in control at Utd will do the best deal possible to get him transferred but it may not be that easy. Anyway we have to leave that up to them.
I do hope that Rooney has good financial advisors though because lets face facts, if his work ethic does not change he will probably be out of football by the time he is 35-36, thus, he has maybe another 50 years of life with a grossly reduced income. Too many filthy rich sportsmen become poor after retirement.
He has achieved all that he can and far more than most, if I were him I would go/stay where the money is and put all the money he makes in the next few years in a nest egg account or something that he can't touch. I Know very little about money management but hopefully there are those who do, that he can trust.

Did he?

I thought he wanted to leave but the club didn't want to sell him so offered him a new contract, and convinced him to stay on the same basic salary.

As I recall it, he forced a new contract out of Moyes when he was too weak to let him go. Fair play to his agent for doing his job. I'd do the same. But he shouldn't expect any favours now.

I know that paying Rooney 300,000 every week is not worth it but i think as a club captain and him learning about himself in the last couple of years is a sign that he should take a pay cut and stay with us. He's a useless player, he's been in the club for 13 years and knows more about us than anybody else in the team plus he has a huge experience in terms of Champ league football. He should take a pay cut and play a couple more years like Giggsy and some of our aces did. He's just 31, come on!

Fixed that for you, and he's absolutely nothing like Giggs, give up man, it's over.

I think someone responded to you seriously as well actually agreeing somewhat

Incredible

Hmmm.

I feel like I've been here before..............

If he stays he'll probably never play international football again. Shame it's petering out like this. I genuinely think he's gone though and too proud to admit it. He'd get found out even more in any PL side, best hide on our bench and get those sideline warm ups to nothing down to a T.

Expect a couple more months of both sides posturing, before we eventually give him a golden envelope, easing the way over to Everton.

A season there, a season in the US, and then easy street as a United ambassador, and occasionally popping up in TV studios.

Utd Ambassador ? Ambassadors are usually capable of putting a couple coherent sentences together .

Newcastle or Stoke are not going to pay Rooney £100K per week. That is my point. Everyone knows he is shot, and nobody is going to pay him those wages. He is at Man United, one of the biggest clubs in the world on £300K per week. Why would he go to Stoke?

Ha. All pretty unsurprising. I don't see how he gets into any other prem side tbh, he's fallen that far.

The nail in the coffin was when he looked at home against retired footballers/defenders, in their 40s, in the Carrick testimonial.
After seeing him in that game, no manager who wants to keep his job would pay for Rooney.
IMO, he'll do well in the Championship, but he is no longer a EPL quality striker.

You are allowing his poor form over last few years to cloud your judgement, lad. Rooney was world class in his prime.

Agreed 100%. He was a fantastic player.
Same for Ruud Van Nistlerooy, Jaap Stam, Beckham, Scholes, etc.

I doubt there is a mamager out there willing to pay him 50k.

Fixed that for you.

I think Stoke would be a good move for him, it's not far , not sure exactly where he lives but probably an easy commute and with all the money in the league I'm sure they could pay him a decent amount, aren't Crystal Palace paying someone 100k.

Arguably one of the greatest players to play for the club especially being top scorer and the significance of that achievement.
He could be regarded in the same breath as best and sir bob with him being the top scorer of this great club.
But his time is now up he as declined rapidly and the longer he stays the more people will loathe him and his great achievement will be tarnished.
Most fans cant handle the fact that a fat scouser is the clubs all time top scorer.

At no time has Wayne been the best player in the squad. He was phenomenal at times, but he's always had other superstars outshining him. He is a big part of the modern day Manchester United, but he will never enjoy the same popularity as the very best Man Utd players.

When I look back on his career at this club, the goddamn transfer requests are just to annoying to ignore. However, I will always remember the amount of unbelieveable goals he scored. Oh my god!

We are Man United, and we should never let one of our best servants feel redundant.

If Wayne wants to stay, that's fine, let him. But he has to be content with a place on the bench.

Come on, don't talk bollocks. He was clearly world class in his prime. If he wasn't, then hardly anyone was. He was top 5 player in the world for a couple of seasons. That's as world class as it gets, ffs.

The Rooney revisionism is quite vexing to me. His time is clearly up, but he's had an astonishing career, and at his peak combined a footballing intelligence, technique, and industry that few players have matched.

Not sure who outshinded him 09/10 tbh

He was the best player in the squad in 2009-10, and 2011-12. So no clue where that comes from.
