Rooney - Wants to stay next season

He's going to be at United next season, his wages are insane.

Why would anyone leave 250k a week for less money elsewhere?

Because they've already earned north of £100m during their short career and are set for life and they have ambitions for a final World Cup and want to play out their final seasons on the pitch not in the stands?

I think you are underestimating Rooney's greed.

He will be happy living in Prestbury and I wouldn't imagine he'd want to relocate, I only see Everton as an option.

Yeah, why are we happy about a currently world class player joining our team and guaranteed to score 25-30 goals per season.
Not what I'm talking about. Look in the various Ronaldo threads where people clearly seem to believe he'd be more "worthy" of holding our record than Rooney. Which, again, is sad.

I imagine if Rooney stays, Mourinho will find good use for him in quite a lot of games next season....The money, the contract, it is what it is...Rooney will weigh up his options and unless he gets an 'acceptable' offer elsewhere, both financially and with what he deems as a good opportunity to play for a club that has a chance of winning something, and where he feels he can make a real impact, I don't see him leaving.

Whilst he's obviously past his peak, I don't view him as 'dead man walking' and do feel he could make a decent contribution for us next season, and he probably feels there's more medals for himself here...

we'll see....

Can we please just sell him for anything or just release him from his contract. This shit feck leaving would open up alot of options for us. Jose needs to have an awkward and embarrasing conversation with him asap or we're fecked again for this season. Business is business, same way he tried to shaft us twice when leaving for City and Chelsea.

It would cost a ridiculous amount of money to buy out Rooney's contract, it would be far more cost effective just to let him warm the bench for the season. From all accounts he is still very popular in the dressing room, so having him around could prove beneficial to the team overall, so long as he stays off the pitch.

Ya that's not cool. Rooney was a great player for us and deserves better. I am sure that will happen once he leaves though.

You're probably right, much of the animosity will be forgotten unless he does a Roy Keane and starts badmouthing the club to the press.

Not good use, maybe use but it won't be good for us as a team

Nah he was always shite. Waste of space on 700k a week since 2004.
Plastic fans everywhere, we have become like Real...

It surprises me everytime how a lot of our fans are sucked up to CR7 and are bashing Wazza.

What has CR7 done for us? Our team was fecking excellent in the past, it was not Ronnie alone, who won us the stuff. Wazza had done much more for us in his 12 years here, give him some respect.

I know Wazza is bad now, so he should leave or come from the bench, but do not forget what he has done for this club. I can understand why he doesn´t want to leave. He has his family in Manchester and get a lot of money, most of us would do the same. Do you think his family wants to live in China? He can stay, if he is ok with coming from the bench. I know he is expensive for what he contributes, but money is not an issue for this club. We should not scare him away like Real did with Raul. He is still a great role model for our younger players. Wazza is a Utd. legend, if you want or not, that´s a fact.

Ronaldo "WANTS" to leave, Rooney "THREATEN" to leave.

Big difference in my eyes.

How exactly did Rooney threaten to leave?

Twice he wanted to leave and informed the club of this in private, and twice Ferguson made it public knowledge.

Did Rooney convince Ferguson to do this on his behalf as part of a nefarious scheme to ''Threaten'' to leave to get new contracts?

No point in buying out his contract, it would cost us as much as a new player realistically but with the added negative of having to pay it all in one go.

His role this season will end up even more reduced than last season, if he is happy with that then great for him but he will have zero hope of making the World Cup squad. Even if he is playing most weeks for someone like Everton/Stoke its a stretch at this point in time.

Nope.. He want to leave, give us a year despite wanting to leave, he said madrid is his dream team from day 1, when the bid is on he moves.

Rooney on the other hand... Lack of quality in the team mumbo jumbo, angry and confused.
I think you forgot quite a bit of what happened in the summer of 2008.

"Only God knows", agreeing with Blatter's slavery comments, starting the whole 'will he, won't he' preening right after Moscow.

Also, and I can't stress it enough on these boards clearly populated by people with incredibly selective memory but it was Sir Alex Ferguson who went public with the Rooney story in 2010. Not the player; up until that point everything was behind closed doors apart from rumours that the contract talks stalled.

You answered your own question. I do believe it's in his right (debatable) to stay and see out his contract, and it seems the club (surely) and Mourinho (debatable) do agree with this. And he is entitled to some respect for what he had done for the club.

At this moment, with his stature, no one; not the club, the manager, any staffs or the fan can 'kick' Rooney out of the club. And how did he gain the stature? By playing for over a decade and scored a record number of goals for the club. You can try to taint his contribution or loyalty to the club, but the record will always be there and as long as nobody breaks it, he will be regarded as living/playing legend. Well maybe Ronaldo if he joins. I believe most do agree that he is not good enough for United anymore as the 1st eleven. But why those who don't want him here keep on insulting and recreate new history? I just can't understand any of this.

Luckily in football world today it is really about business. Because if it is still about loyalty, love of the club, etc. no one would want to come here to play again. Most who come here is because the money we pay to get him and the wage. If they come to be loved by the club and fans, they will not come if they know how some of you guys treat our own legend who is still at the club. Want him out? No problem, but show some respect though I don't really expect that from some same familiar posters who write nonsense all the time.

When I mention the word "respect", I meant the fact that I don't want him getting minutes he doesn't deserve. Or even a squad place, if it comes to that. Also, (it's a rarity nowadays, thank god) people defending his performances, and blaming all and sundry except for Rooney himself for those poor performances, out of some misguided attempt at "respect."

I think the comment you replied to was ironic..

Anyways, players get older and they decline. Most Utd fans realize what Rooney has done for the club, but let's not forget it's the other way around as well...what the club has done for Rooney.

We have had loads of legends here, but eventually they all hang up their boots and right now Rooney has three choices:
1) Stay here and rarely get played while on massive wages
2) Go to another club, less wages but more playing time
3) Retire

Imo, the last one is the best. Personally i hate seeing once great players somewhat tarnish their legacy by playing well past their expiration date and whit Rooney thats a real concern. Even last season when he was pretty much well rested the whole time, he hardly made the headlines and even him most staunch supporters among the pundits began to question his inclusions in the squad/XI.

Bottom line: No one wins by him being a bench warmer

The only way Rooney is going to the World cup will be as a "pundit" on ITV's terrible football coverage.

Expect lots of "erm" and "get the ball out wide" and "bodies in the box" type comments from him and careful camera angles to hide the paunch.

If asked about United he will say "......Nothing left to prove....."

Obviously he will want to stay who would want to miss out on that amount of money, cant see what else there is for him at the club if honest, done his bit and should have moved 2/3 years ago for me, if he is serious about wanting to play for England again then hes got to be playing every week and putting in performances, which i cant see happening here, so now hes got a tough choice on money or maybe playing for England again.

Yeah, agree with that. Most of us would choose 1, because that´s the best for him. His kids are going to school in Manchester, why should he want to move away. He can get a lot of money by sitting on the bench, it´s just a job. I would not care what some internet haters are saying, so why should he leave. He is not the same footballer, to lazy now, maybe has always been. But I am ok, if he is staying, did a lot for Utd.

The idea that Rooney is tarnishing his legacy is way of mark. Global United fans are still looking up to him even in their heart they know he is not as he used to be. only in redcafe his legacy is a bit tarnished, but for the club and country, he is a legend.

Yeah, he is not the smartest, but how this got to do with the thread is beyond me.

It's absolutely unbelievable how Ronaldo did all he did and got a free pass from our fans. His behaviour in 2008 was just ridiculously bad and not close to Rooney doing what he did. Ronaldo got a new contract out of the whole scenario as well. Ronaldo went public with his complaints, kept up his nonsense during the Euoros, allegedly refused to meet Fergie for a while and then had to be convinced to stay for one more season and got a new contract out of all of it. Rooney never went public with anything he did.

Despite offering nothing last season he still got the second most goals + assists for us.
I love the guy but stats don't tell the story for him anymore because his level has just drastically fallen off. You can paper over the cracks when you still have some first touch left but the cracks are too huge to paper over even with good stats now unfortnately.

I'm pretty sure Ronaldo did not get a new contract in 2008 and had signed his last United deal in March 2007.

But apart from that I obviously agree.

Yes he has fallen off. But he clearly offered something. We needed goals and he offered them. He isn't good enough anymore but people can stop acting like he was an OAP out there. People saying he isn't good enough for the Chinese league and should retire are mad. The same people who probably called Fletcher not good enough for league 2 and said he should retire.

I think he signed it sometime in 2008. It might be April though and not the summer.

PS: Sorry April 2007

16 May 2008 - Ronaldo: "I have said a thousand times that I have one dream - to play in Spain. Sometimes your dreams don't come true but I dream, I still dream, and I am happy at Manchester United, but the future? Nobody knows."

23 May 2008 - Ferguson condemns Real's lack of moral fibre, comparing them to former fascist dictator General Franco: "Do you not think we've had much interest from the big clubs in Europe about our best players? Of course we have, but they don't get into the nonsense Real get into. They've no moral issues at all. They think that they can ride roughshod over everyone, but they won't with us."

27 May 2008 - United threaten to report Real to FIFA over their attempt to buy Ronaldo, condemning their behaviour as "totally unacceptable" just hours after Real coach Bernd Schuster describes Ronaldo as: "The big priority for the club."

5 June 2008 - Ronaldo: "I would like to play for Real Madrid but only if it is true they are ready to pay what Manchester United ask of them. However, it does not depend on me."

19 June 2008 - The 23-year-old tells reporters after Portugal's 3-2 Euro 2008 quarter-final defeat by Germany that there was a strong possibility he would leave Old Trafford.

21 June 2008 - Ronaldo describes a move to Real as "a dream" and "a step forward", and says he does not mind if he upsets Ferguson: "It is my decision. It is what I want. I don't know what I have to say to him. I have to say what I want and what I think."

9 July 2008 - FIFA President Sepp Blatter says United should let Ronaldo leave, claiming their refusal to sell him equates to "modern slavery".

10 July 2008 - Ronaldo says he "agrees completely" with Blatter's remarks comparing him to a slave, adding that he has no idea where he will be playing next season.

18 July 2008 - Sir Alex Ferguson claims Ronaldo will definitely stay at United following talks with the winger in Lisbon.

20 July 2008 - Ronaldo says his future is still undecided despite talks with Ferguson, saying: "I don't know about the future."

Wonderful behavior. Viva Ronaldo

He's a shit role model tbh.

Which part of him you'd want the kids to learn? How to lose your career in 10 years?

You. Steveoc. Wr8

Rooney can't do no wrong in your eyes. Let's agree to disagree here.

You are actually right, if only because that sentence means he can do wrong.

Yeah, I'm being a grammar nazi but really, that's all this post deserves.

Cant get him to leave, cant bring a striker in, Its been frustrating few days of this early transfer season. With Pre season begining soon, we need to get our players in ASAP and those with no futures out ASAP.

So what? Going public is going public. If he's done it, which he has, don't claim otherwise.
But it was already public. Because of Ferguson. Surely that's relevant? I think it's quite intellectually dishonest to pretend you don't understand what we're talking about here. But I'll clarify anyway: the issue is that he's being lambasted for going public with his contract issues and criticisms of the club, which is unfair considering that nobody seems to have a problem with Sir Alex Ferguson who was the one originally taking it to the public.

Anyway if Rooney wants to stay for a year and not play then there's not much we can do about it. Just hope we see him on the pitch as little as possible.
