Bloody hell you know things must be bad when even you are criticising him.
People who were defending him now accept that he's shite. The difference between us and them is that, they still retain some hope no matter how faint that their Rooney will return.

You pretty much ignored my entire point and the post. Maybe you thought my facts were incorrect or the point I was making doesn't stand. But in no way have I suggested that Rooney could do well playing #9 role for us. That dead horse has been beaten enough so please spare me the pain.

You brought up the topic of Giroud scoring more than Rooney in every season since coming to Arsenal without actually specifying in which competitions. It is only natural that I brought a bit of context to that argument by saying that Rooney hasn't played as a lone striker for us which is factual and not an excuse. Even then, Rooney has outscored Giroud in the league 2 out of last 4 seasons in PL.

Rooney could very well be an average centre forward like Giroud if he was playing as a focal point for Arsenal. He would still score 10-15 goals a season like Giroud while also contributing a whole lot more to the team. If you disagree with that, do look at their assists since Giroud arrived in England.
In all competitions. In the 2012/13 season they both played in all 4 competitions yet Giroud outscored him. You then went off tangent with assists ignoring the goals argument.

There's no guarantee Rooney wouldn't even be starting for Arsenal to even get close to those numbers. They probably wouldn't be shackled by such a huge contract so wouldn't have to play him even in such abysmal form.

2014/5 is the perfect case in point. He played at both 10,8 and 9. Quite a similar number of games. He actually scored even less at 9 so plucking him at 9 won't mean anymore goals now. He's an even inferior player than he was then.Giroud is a better striker.Things such as hold up play are things he is light years ahead.Ball control is another.

And Rooney did play as lone striker for us recently. It was just last season too unless you have forgotten. He was actually first choice striker there with Fellaini as backup striker for the start of the season.

Thats what I find strange. Its not like Rooney has suddenly turned shite in his last match. He has had equally shocking performances in the past. And yet his defenders kept insisting that those who criticized him, were actually blinkered by hate. The usual refrain was, while Rooney was on the decline, he still performed at a high level and deserved his place in the team. There were posters who wanted to know why there were no videos made of all the good bits that Rooney did in a match.

Fact is Rooney has been dogshite for a long long time now. Nothing has changed over one match. So were people just defending him until it became absolutely untenable to do so?

The class is permanent, form is temporary thing probably accounts for some of the delayed judgement, for me anyway. No turning back now though, he's the perfect poo.

Yep......that and he's a perfect 10/8 or 6 (whenever he srinks the place up he "must" be moved to the other).

Both arguments, after 3 years of shit, are a tad nauseating.

See that makes sense. But heres the thing. Rooney didn't even play in our last match, against Feynoord, when a lot of the those who did play were quite bad. And against City, he was actually one of the better players. I don't like him much, but it would be silly to say otherwise. So those who think or thought he has/had been playing well, should still be defending him. Not having a go at you, btw. Just find it strange that theres been this collective dropping of the penny, both on the caf and the media over this one match.

You know what? Of all the shite attempts to control the ball, passes straight to the opposition, Hollywood passes floating into the crowd, and scuffed shots, it's this that probably irritates me the most - the constant appeals to the ref after a 'handball' (inevitably always turns out to have struck a chest) or one of his dives (he was appealing before he hit the ground during his 'fall' against Bournemouth). Always does it as the play moves on around him.
Agreed. The rest you can say, he used to be better at. The compaining to the refs at every chance reflects where he is as a player now and what he thinks he can bring to the team. Throw in the constant complaining about poor play from teammates and it's easy to see why the fans just aren't interested in supporting him right now. If he was just crap, he'd be getting much more of a pass.

Because it was so blatant and didn't have a last minute assist to cover it up?

He hasn't done it for me for a long time, it's just now I just cannot take it anymore. The media I just don't trust (TV pundits especially). Everyone has their own agenda it seems, but maybe now the story of him being picked but needing to be dropped is an Eastenders episode waiting to happen. And I hate EastEnders.

Most things you say are fair. When I talk about assists I am trying to backup a simple fact that Rooney contributes more to the team whether he plays 6,8, 10 or 9.

Another argument that is done to death but the truth is that since Sir Alex retired, we haven't created nearly enough chances. No matter who played #9 for us, they have all looked like average players.

Rashford hasn't.

Rashford played as a striker in exactly the same team that Rooney did and played well.

It's not just the goals. He's so poor when played as striker. He barely touches the ball and can't make the kind of runs a good striker should be making. I remember the pre-season we played Barca with Suarez as striker
He didn't score but you could see from that what a Striker does .He didn't give the defense a moment's rest. That forces them into mistakes. Our Rooney is just lethargic as striker.

When he played as striker the excuses was about how little service he was getting. For Rooney the excuses really never run dry.

So did Martial when he was played there.

Coincidentally he was moved to left wing to shoehorn Rooney back into 9 by Van Gaal .People forget so easily. This are things that happened just months ago.
Martial was also quickly double marked by teams. At Palace away Pardew openly said what a good player he is and our only worthwhile threat

The way things have gone Rooney will start against Northampton, play badly but score the winner.

And then we'll get the class is permanent idiots coming out talking about how Wazza is back! Keeps his place at the weekend.

I said the same in the match thread. You just know it's going to happen don't you? Probably be a penalty aswell which will be typical.

The easiest way round for Mourinho, is to play him v Northampton, citing the need for...experience.

Then, he's knackered, so needs a rest for Leicester

So, basically, he was just as bad, a year ago.
One comment stated that he wouldn't even get into Villa's side! And Villa were one of the worst sides I have ever seen in the EPL.
There was another comment stating that he is playing like he were 50 years old.

Funny how every fan seems to know that Rooney needs to be transferred out (not sold, because nobody would pay money for him), yet the managers risk their careers (and get sacked) by playing him.

Is this the same Giroud that has outscored Rooney in every single season since he arrived in English football?

Ssssshhhhhh, DO NOT mention facts when arguing about Rooney's performances over the last few years.
And don't ever mention that he only scored 8 league goals last season, making him the 26th highest ranked striker in the EPL last season.
Lets just keep saying that strikers from rival teams are not as good as Rooney and not good enough to play for MUFC.

And as for G.Neville - I have now concluded that he has gone mad.

Worst thing is that his qualities waned long before the goals did.

For years the goals were masking the poor perfomances. Now he has nothing to fall back on.

as well as the physical side of things I think Rooney has mellowed too much over the years....marriage, kids and getting older have taken away his competitivity

remember the snarling Rooney after that hatrick in 2010/2011 (i think) - probably the last season you could put him amongst the best in the league

I'd like to see that post. Link?
@K2K
This one?

WUM? Bollox I'm not surprised to get the usual kneejerk reaction from you whenever i make a point you disagree with.

Listen,I am making a serious point here.I believe Rooney's recent poor performances (as most on here would concede) are not just a passing phase but symptomatic of the fact that his physique is not that of a footballer now that he has physically matured.

Because of his brutish build he lacks the stamina required to get through a 90 minute game in the Premiership and this has become more apparent.Mark my words he will struggle with weight and fitness as he gets older.

Although to be fair Gillespie posted a lot of nonsense, he said we'd in nothing for 20 years after Arsenal won in 2004 :)

I'm actually surprised nobody made a Jordan Henderson Style, Shit Performance compilation of Rooney Vs Watford. If there is I'm yet to see it...
