He should play tonight, then be dropped against Leicester.
Exactly, should be out the team for a sustained period of time and not just 1 or 2 games.I just don't think it sends the right sort of message by playing him tonight and then dropping him for Leicester. He needs to be out of the squad for both, or at best, on the bench.
What if he scores one or two tap ins for tonight for example? The media frenzy would be flipped on its head.
Look imo Rooney is SO bad now that even tonight he will be shit as he is literally physically shot.
He can't control a ball and he can't shoot/pass why would that improve just because the quality of the opposition is lower.
It's like Falcao, play him against lower league opposition and he will struggle even more. He's lost the physical edge he used to have over lower league players, and the giant centre backs are going to be all over him.Look imo Rooney is SO bad now that even tonight he will be shit as he is literally physically shot.

I really hope he plays tonight. I have a feeling it's really going to prove that he is barely at League 1 level these days.
Yeah but he's so poor who says he will score tonight? His form just does not justify him starting games, no matter against whoThe counter argument is that his confidence is shot and scoring a couple of goals against Northampton could get him firing in the Premier League again.
That's just devil's advocate tho, he should definitely be dropped IMO.

Yep, days are numbered. Just 1,020 days or so till his contract ends.
As much as Rooney has been the poster boy for all our problems on the pitch, I feel he's causing more problems off the pitch. If the recent articles coming out are to be believed and Rooney is the 'source' then he's an absolute cancer and needs to be released ASAP. I don't think we can afford to wait until January to sell him.
I'm starting to believe that Rooney being at the club is our biggest problem, not just his performance's when he plays.

So close to that elusive record. Ironically if we brought Bobby Charlton back into the team he'd be more likely to score.
I hear what you're saying but there is a reason Fergie tried to boot Rooney out of United 3 years ago. Now he's walking around the place like Billy big bollocks because he 'survived' SAF's regime. There's no way there isn't a selection of players at United who don't feel that Rooney is influential behind the scenes, especially seeing as he's the captain. Dropping Rooney could be one of the worst things Mourinho could do. Rooney will have sympathisers within the club and when negativity sets in with a core group of people who are influential, the manager is pretty much finished.I wouldn't go that over dramatic. For both club and country, Rooney needs to be dropped for poor performances. It's just not fair, you got poor Herrera who's not getting more games than he actually deserves as he puts out decent performances when he does come on, whereas you got Rooney who plays average or below average football but still get picked because he's captain... It's time for him to be dropped, get out of his comfort zone and start working for a place in the team like everyone else. Then we will start to see a change in the squad and Rooney will either rise to it and actually put more work in the training ground, or slowly slip out of pecking order and then move on.
He is and he is taking free kicks as well, so where is Wayne going to get his goals from? He doesn't have the engine to burst into the box now.Zlatan on pens now, no?
I think down the line it would be more beneficial to give Martial a confidence boost then Wayne Rooney.I'd rather see Martial/Rashford play as a CF, get a few of goals if possible than to try to boost Rooney's confidence.
Dropping him for both would be a serious message.
Same here. I'm desperate for him to break the record asap.Be mad if he never did it. I'm starting to secretly hope he breaks the record in the next couple of weeks (hopefully by finally scoring one of those signature chips he's almost never converted) then runs off the pitch, immediately hands in his resignation and Mourinho can get on with building a succesful team without all this Rooney drama. A guy can dream, right?

If breaking he record is what makes him go quietly, then it's more an worth it.I'm not, I don't want him to get that record, he should get the BFS treatment and never get the chance, feck him.
