Rubbish.

Bruno was in fantastic form that season and what dropped his form this season?

Ronaldo taking up his spaces.

Sure we maybe not a title winning team that year or the year later - but to say we were playing like 6th in the PL in a year we ended the league 2nd is just wrong.
I never said tht

Did Ronaldo down tools? Because his play suggests that he did.
Down tools while still finishing 3rd topscorer in the EPL; most POTM in the EPL this season; PL TOTS, etc etc.

Not his best year but saying he downed tools is comical.

And let’s be serious, you’re not fooling anyone with your Ronaldo agenda.

I never said tht

Well we were 2nd because we were playing the 2nd best football in the league that season.

We became 6th because that’s how good our football became the season after.

Whether it’s due to transfers or other clubs having injuries makes no difference - we went from the 2nd best team by results to the 6 best by results the season after.

So then why did we drop 4 spaces with Ronaldo? You keep harping on about 2nd being an abberation as if we just finished third rather than the "abberation" that was second, before Ronaldo came.
So you’re basically saying Ronaldo IS Manchester United. Otherwise this comment makes 0 sense.

Too much logic here. It's all a coincidence that we regressed as much as we did with Ronaldo.

and that was all down to Ronaldo... and no one else? OK, then

I can’t be bothered to talk about it over and over again -

Let’s bring up Bruno. Stats show that Ronaldo took up his spaces, his positions and so much more.

Basically our best player in the 2nd season got shifted out by someone else - so it is a lot to do with Ronaldo.

I can’t even be bothered to start how a striker with no hold up ability compared to Martial and Cavani the season before led to our own defense becoming more poor.

It’s just a bit too footballing science for the Ronaldo fans to see how a striker could effect our defense both positively or negatively depending their ability like hold up play, possession and interplay.

pretty much everyone know that the season we finished was an aberration due to the circumstances

We finished 3rd the season before. 3rd, 2nd... distant 6th.

Points: 66, 74... 58
Goals scored: 66, 73... 57
Goals conceded: 36, 44... 57
Goal difference: +30, +29... 0

Rio Ferdinand has this to say:

Cristiano Ronaldo has been watching the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal make transfer deals all summer whilst Man United have struggled to keep up.
And this is one of the main reasons Ronaldo wants out from Old Trafford.
That’s the view of Rio Ferdinand, who said: “He’ll be sitting there, on his sun lounger, on his yacht, on his jet, wherever he is in the world.
“Seeing Manchester City signing Haaland. Seeing Liverpool signing Nunez, among other players. Phillips has just gone to Manchester City as well.
“He would be thinking ‘we had work catching these guys, anyway, before these big signings come into these football clubs and now they are jumping even further away from us’.
“Arsenal are making moves. He’s sitting there thinking ‘when is my team going to start making moves’".

to be fair, wasn't it a rather distant 2nd as well?

well by praising Martial, good luck convincing anybody... and I'm not sure your arrogance on how much better your understanding is does much either

He has treated us as a doormat. We should have never been in for him last season. Wish he would move outside the PL, wouldn’t have to hear how United was not good enough all year long.

The year Solskjaer got us 2nd? Nah.

Liverpool were still playing better football than us, as measured either by underlying stats or simply the eye test. But, for various reasons, their better general standard of play didn't translate to better outcomes. It was absolutely no surprise that they leap-frogged us again the following year and ended up competing with City though, because they were in fact still the better team.

As with Mourinho's 2nd place finish, it was a case of the third or fourth best team in the country overachieving the general level of football they played in term of their final league placement. And in both cases the signs that we would be overtaken again if we didn't improve were already evident.

But to your point, even if the 2nd place finish flattered our general standard of play, we were still the third or fourth best team in England. So insofar as we overachieved it was by a couple of league places at most. Whereas by the same measures you could very easily argue that our 6th place finish this season flattered our general level of play just as much.

So for all that we might quibble about how good we were in previous seasons or how representative that 2nd place finish really was, it's still very evident that something or some things caused us to get rapidly and starkly worse this season. Pointing out that our prior league finish flattered us doesn't really change that, because it only flattered us so much.

We keep hearing 'finished 2nd last year' but it's so devoid of context. We weren't finishing anything near that this season, even without Ronnie

Agreed bro, the positions flattered us. Liverpool's injury crisis last year was so bad, they had guys in defence that I can't even name this year because they were completely unestablished. 3 senior centre-backs, out for several months, for example. Despite all that, we failed to be more than 5 points ahead of them by season's end

Personally, I maintain that Ronaldo is the right player for the right team, which wasn't us last year.

We signed Ronaldo, Sancho, Varane last summer, which on paper was one of the best summer's we could do. Liverpool fans were complaining about lack of transfers. We "won" the transfer window. Counts for nothing. It's Ferdinand that carries a large responsibility himself for pushing Ronaldo through so late and disrupting the team.

Yeah, the added firepower/goals for them would make them real contenders for the title. Finally, someone might beat our two biggest rivals to it. Absolutely amazing stuff. Over the moon.

TBF why should we care if it makes them title contenders? we're nowhere near good enough to even challenge with Ronaldo, we need to just dump him to anyone daft enough to take on his wages. Everything after that is a win for the club.

This. We are now behaving as Cheap Greedy Fcks F.C. at a time when a major squad revamp is necessary regardless.

People expecting this cnut to ruin Chelsea if he joins them, its Chelsea, i know they are no under Roman but somehow think it would turn into a win that transfer.
It's true they have something of a green thumb but they've got some big money striker flops, Lukaku, Morata and Torres, maybe Shevchenko, not sure. This is the one area the old chelsea luck doesn't reach

Get rid of him asap. fecking hell. Waits until the start of pre season to not show up and doesn't even speak to the manager in advance. feck him. He's not worth it as a player anymore either, he's a poacher who provides 0 outside of it, and he doesn't even score enough at this point anyway. Just get rid however possible and we'll be better off without his distraction and his wages.

Unfortunately I don't see anyone actually going for him. If he stays, I hope ten hag keeps him on the bench until he works his way in. Makes it all about himself as always.

This is some Ed Woodward sh*t right here. Same manager getting mugged off is going to sway Ronaldo. We're going to have to prioritize him even more if we persuade him to stay. I don't understand this situation from the cliub's perspective because on paper it makes way too much sense for both parties to go their separate ways. We're on different timelines. We don't have any real trophy expectations for next year.

Meanwhile Ronaldo's career is winding down and he wants to maximize it. We can't offer that and shouldn't even try. Why force an aging player to stay in a rebuilding year? This is wanting to have and eat one's cake. Let him maximise his career while we start building long term to balance our attack without him. I'm certain the attack won't simply capitulate without him and if it does better this season than next. That's supposed to be the point of rebuilding.

United and Juve both added a younger and better version of him to their teams and ended up scoring less goals and getting less points compared to the season before, so I think it's safe to say he won't add the extra 20 odd points that Chelsea needs to fight for the title.

Which is completely ignoring the context of things. You're telling me without Ronaldo we would have score more goals last season? We all saw how Bruno Rashford and Greenwood played. Greenwood was taking 20 yard punts when a shot was on. Rashford running down alleyways. People like like pre Ronaldo we were this cohesive unit that he dismantled. Juve went to shite after he left as well.

It’s not looking a good transfer window at the moment.

All we have done is signed a back up LB and that’s it.

De Jong is also looking increasingly unlikely to happen and now Ronaldo wants out.

We want to replace him with a good player in Antony, but I struggle to see where the goals will come from next season.

Fc Mates strike again. We have a player who shits on club but for Gary and Rio it is our fault. Have some dignity ffs.

How can you believe this? Do you really think with all this in the media Ten Haag is calling him and he's going straight to voicemail? Come on.

They have probably talked and it's possible they've had a falling out, who knows. Journalists sometimes go too far in the fantasies they brew.

If you expect to get a well thought logical reply for accusing Ronaldo of "downing tools" that's on you.

I certainly don't expect anything resembling a logical reply from you regarding anything that concerns Ronaldo.

But if Ronaldo fanboys are going to accuse everyone else in the team of downing tools, they'd have to first start off with him.

With the guy that most people said, along with De Gea, had the best season for us?

Ronaldo vs Rashford. I wonder who was more motivated last season. I guess since I'm a fanboy I'd go for Ronaldo.

If that was Ronaldo motivated, then I'd hate to see him unmotivated.
