His worst mistake was coming back here, he should have gone to city. United would have signed a new striker already, and Ronaldo would have won one more champions league. But all went wrong. He will never accept sitting on the bench, and this kind of drama will never end until he goes.

How old were they? It’s so hard to imagine an actual adult being that way.
Not that hard to imagine. We have some (@RedRonaldo ) on this forum who throw out gems like:
"I don’t cheer City goals which are not scored by Ronaldo. If your son played for City and scored for them one day, would you cheer for him?"
"abit of cult thing in terms of my support/worship, I won’t be ashamed to admit it, as I have already stressed that I could only speak for myself."
"Whereas Ronaldo to me, he is more of “religion” or even a “cult” thing to me, rather than just a hobby, hence I am comfortable to admit myself as a Ronaldo fanboy"

His cultists calling another grown man a "religion" is pretty disturbing.

Twitter fanboy accounts are cooking this morning.

Apparently Ten Hag is two faced because he said after City that he didn't involve Ronaldo out of respect for his career, but they twist that and say if he has such respect for his career he should just start every game

Let's not forget whenever he's started we've lost, drawn or struggled to beat Europa League NPC clubs.

Whatever commercial gain we made upon his signing could be radically wiped out if this circus isn't removed from the club by January. It's an unnecessary distraction from players who are playing well and the manager - those who should be the main focus of news, analysis and press reports.

I'm sure behind closed doors they're all absolutely fine and it's not even an issue, but he quite clearly knows there are millions of people watching his every move and these little stunts are pre-meditated to ensure the brand is alive and kicking.

Despite who he is and the status he has in football and at United in his previous stint, I certainly can't forget this guy actively instructed his agent to whore him out across Europe, refused to commit to pre-season, and failed to get said move because everyone knows you lose so much by accommodating him in your team.

Goes back to Ole and Woodward and probably the Glazers. Signing him was such a backwards step.

Think that performance last night showed him that we can perform without him, the play has more energy, biggest thing there is real harmony in the team. He is not dealing with it. If he had a pre-season would it be better for him, maybe, but that was his decision.

As long as we keep playing well and winning this is an open goal for ten Hag. Ronaldo just looks like a mug if he carries on this way.

Drop him from the squad for the Chelsea game imo.

Perhaps someone should remind him that the giant picture of him at Carrington hangs there because of who he was for Manchester United back then, not the "CR7 first" player of today.

The club, in hindsight, is responsible for the situation by not faclitating a move away when he wanted one. He was named the MVP of last season, and now he cant even get on the pitch. That is on the club.

BT doing their best to make a story out of it.

But it is a story. I rarely get uppity over these types of things, but last night was just proper low form by Ronaldo. To Ronaldo, it was more important for him to selfishly think of himself, and his tantrum and the message it would send out to whoever the feck would be swayed by it, than it was to be there right until the final whistle for younger players who played blinders last night. That is a story because it really matters. It effects the team, particularly the younger players who Ronaldo is a role model to. It's as if in many ways Ronaldo is a nearing 40 year old man trapped inside the mind of a 14 year old. Jesus wept time to grow up lad. Seriously

Especially if Martial is fit enough to be on the bench, then he definitely should be dropped. I think the only reason ETH might need to tolerate this circus is because the alternative is made of glass and can't stay fit for more than 30 mins.

Nobody wanted to buy him. That's not on the club.

Always has to make it about himself doesn't he. His performances do not warrant that childish drama. feck him off in January and get us a striker

Nail on the head. It's the feckin height of narcissism. Take the glow off the wonderful performance and spin it all around so there is a pity party (or some sort of attention) on him. It's profoundly delusional.

Ronaldo sets Old Trafford on fire.

His cultists: That happens, its just like when accidentally sets his workplace on fire. Why make such a drama about it. ETH showed him disrespect, that's where it all started.

Agree and his behaviour last night will make it even more difficult for him to find a top club. He might train hard, but a lot of managers would find his arrogance a problem, especially keeping control of their players.

He'll probably leave this week and head to a warm weather camp to train for the world cup. Probably the best for all involved. We can pay him to feck off, unfortunately for Portugal, they can't.

I guess Rashford is kinda happy with Ronaldo putting the focus away. Since our striker problem is getting kinda bad...

It’s nothing like leaving your job early is it. We pay him a shed load of cash to play football, 100s of thousands a week, and he made himself unavailable for that, deliberately in front of his boss with 80k people watching

if you slip off 15m early from your shift to go to the pub it’s basically meaningless - and even still you wouldn’t have a job for long if you kept doing it

You also wonder if Ten Haag being so tough on this is improving his status with the rest of the team. Really coming across as a proper leader, after the weak way in which Ronaldo was handled last season.

Yeah, I'd say so. I like pretty much everything about ETH at this point. Also he's not actually being that tough, he's just not giving him preferential treatment. There was literally no point bringing on a 37 year old who has played lately when Elanga needs minutes. The kid was if anything over used last year and now can't get a sniff. Can't be that easy to juggle that in his head. Minutes for the kid were definitely more beneficial for the overall good of the squad.

Also what message does Ronaldo send to Elanga who looked up to him.

It's so wrong on so many levels.

As infuriating as it is, Ten Hag has to play nice until January given the large Portuguese speaking/Madrid faction in the squad. Can't risk upsetting them and have everything kicking off with leaks etc.

Get through the next 7 games giving him the absolute minimum play time (start against Sheriff, maybe against Villa in the LC). Then get a move done during the World Cup window and end this.

It's the god's honest truth that. It's like watching a woman in her mid 40's who used to be a knock out still try and flirt with young men. The level of cringe. For me what makes it the most cringe-worthy is that the team absolutely nailed it on the pitch. It was glaringly obvious that Ronaldo was not required in any capacity, yet in his mind he's thinking that this public display of protest carries weight?

Every step down that tunnel last night was a giant sulking 'has-been' step. If it was an attempt at a weighty protest, it failed on all levels.

I don't think it's that big of a deal.
I get the impression, Ronaldo isn't actually that annoyed but for his image he has to be seen being annoyed.
He sadly isn't up to PL standard anymore so he'll be leaving sooner than later.
We can only judge what we see in public, I am not sure if you're psychic though

Think Ronaldo is forcing the issue. He wants out, so things like this will speed the process up. However unless he goes to MLS or Middle East he will need to take a paycut. He is probably hoping we pay off the rest of his contract.

Ah yeah, I never bought into his innate diva behaviour as a good example. I think he's always been viewed as a freakish phenomenon more than a role model.

It was an in character dick move last night, I'm just emphasising that there was zero basis for it, Elanga was the logical choice, Ronaldo wasn't 'snubbed'.

Agreed, he'll have to deal with this carefully.

Yes totally agree. No point making this a big drama in public, the fact that the team played the best of the season last night means very little pressure on ETH to deal with this as his selection was justified.

Certainly don’t want him stropping around the club in the next few days but from what I understand is that Ronaldo is a bit hot headed in the moment and then after/next day he is fine and especially with the players and staff.

Storm in a teacup because he desperately wanted to be part of that performance - childish way to show your frustration.

His reaction of sitting down on the steps screaming “why not the youngsters” when subbed at Brentford was far worse than what he did last night yet many defended that. Thankfully him being a toxic bellend is now undeniable to anyone with a functioning brain.

Whether he forces it or not, wasn't the club willing to let him go if he found a club ? So isn't it all unnecessary?

Can't wait for this prick to leave. And I hope to god we've learned, and never make a mistake like this again.

Fine him a weeks wages and give the money to charity. Doubt he’d do it again.

I dont even remember that. He actually sreamed that?

Do you remember pictures of him talking to Elanga supposedly giving him advice. It was all careful media presentation of his image.

God I cant stand him.

He behaved like a spoilt child last night. I don’t care who you are, if you’re employed by the club (and being paid handsomely as well) you’re there to do your job. You don’t get to pick and choose when you work. If any of us tried that at our own work we’d be out the door

Being a great doesn’t stop at scoring goals.

Yeah, the minimum playing time is a good approach. I don't think overly placating Ronaldo will help with the unity of the squad. It didn't work for Ralf, as @Pogue Mahone said; not taking the crap perhaps makes ETH the natural leader. Which we really need.

They can always look to him at his best in terms of training/dieting/playing while being aware that certain aspects of the current player are to be avoided. Specially if the young players are surrounded by good people

Cannot tolerate the childish behaviour any longer. He doesn't contribute on the pitch any longer and clearly doesn't want to be a 'squad player'. Must be moved on in January.

Of course, most people will have positive traits and what training and prep Ronaldo is doing, lots of pros do.

I just feel it's been fairly obvious that Ronaldo has always been about Ronaldo and that's not a good message unless you are one of a handful of exceptionally able people who can still contribute positively with that attitude.
