Romelu Lukaku

Yeah last season form wise but his goalscoring record is better than there's (not talking last season) most of those names well Morata excluded have only had a one recognizable season.

Just think if you was to be stubborn about it you could really argue the case.. even though he's not for me.

I still rate Lukaku unlike most of the caf and I'm fairly sure he'll turn it around or at least improve on last season.

Contributing to 30 goals a season. Pretty good donkey.

I don't want him either, just saying.
He's still a donkey though when you watch him and Utd should aspire higher regardless of his goal record.

A player who contributes to 30 goals a year should be called a donkey and seen as totally inadequate to be back up. Okay.

Exactly.

When was the last time any of our strikers did that? Because I can't imagine any did this year, or last season. RvP in Fergusons last year probably.

Major under rating of Lukaku here and I don't even want him.

Lukaku would never be happy sitting on the bench at united. Got too much to say for himself. Unfortunately he's mouth is better than his first touch.

Play him as first choice at United and he'd have some horrific displays and horrific touches, but he'd probably score 20+ league goals, and 30ish goals in all competitions. Donkey or not, he'd score goals - no doubt about.

Back-up striker is a different matter. There's almost an art to being prolific off the bench.

He was the top scorer in Europa League which boosted his tally to 20 in all competitions but his league record last year was shocking. 10 goals in 36 appearances for a lead the line striker. That said, he is better than his performances of last season and he's still only 22 and has potential.

Exactly.

Rooney under Moyes contributed to 40 goals.

Well Memphis seems to think it's happening....

On a serious note though, I think if given the stage, he really could fulfill his potential.

If you do sign him I can't wait to see everyone's opinion change from "he's a donkey," to "we'll make him one of the best strikers in Europe."

Would make him look foolish yet again if he moves back to a club to become a backup when that's the reason he left us in the first place. He's definitely not better than Rooney.

I agree with your point - he is being under rated a bit, but would you be ok with us spending 35m+ on a "backup" striker? Because Everton is surely not going to sell for anything less than the 28m they paid.

I think that's the case with every football fan of every club, they will always try and take the positives from a new signing, it's only natural to get behind a new signing. In saying that, I have always rated him, I think we forget just how young he is and I don't think we would be signing him (if we are even interested) to be better than Rooney, the club would be signing him to be his own player.

Personally, I'd be happy with Lukaku coming in as long as it doesn't cost £35m+. He's solid, gives us more options up front and has potential to be an excellent target man. One of our downfalls last season was that we didn't 'bully' teams enough. Lukaku would give defenders something to worry about as opposed to Young, Mata and Di Maria's wiry frames.

Bit of an odd one really, I don't see Lukaku as a LVG player myself. He is very lazy and he won't offer us pace or creativity that LVG said he needs.

You'd imagine that if we did sign him then he'd be warming the bench as Rooney will be playing up front, he offers little to no versatility either so its not like he can play as a wide forward.

Whether he is van Gaal's type of player is a fair enough debate but I think you're underestimating Lukaku's ability.

He'd still be a donkey.

Has he actually progressed since he broke through at Anderlecht?

not really, he's hit and miss. If he's up for it then he'll be a handful but he rarely ever gets to that form. Paddy McNair had him in his pocket at OT.

His form dipped off a fair bit last season what I saw of him.

Never said we should sign him, but people saying he's a donkey and that he wouldn't be good enough as a back up (forget the price tag) is idiotic.

Hit and miss, that's pretty much the norm for most 22 year old players. Paddy McNair had a very good game, Lukaku did not. Does that define a player? He gave us the run around in the away game last season.

Yeah, wouldn't mind him here at all either. He'd seem to fit the LvG profile of a CF to the tee as well - big, powerful. Just needs to develop 1 or 2 aspects and he could turn into a monster.

So Depay & Lukaku are clearly mates, both of them will probably live near to Cheshire, United are due back off the tour soon and Memphis sends that message.

Yep, clearly signing him :wenger:

That's not how we do it here :nono:

If he develops like you say, we could have the new Benteke on our hands.

Course he still has room to improve, he just seems to be the opposite of everything LVG says he wants in a forward.

Most likely nothing in this at all, as others have said they'll live close enough to each other.

Surely not? There are numerous things that would seemingly make this a no-go.

Everton spent £27m in him only a year ago. they're not gonna sell him for less than that and I really don't think we'd spend that much on him. He's not the sort of player who'd be happy to be back up to Rooney for a couple of seasons - he left Chelsea to be first choice and, as much as I think he has potential to be a very good striker, he's not the sort of striker I envision ever being first choice here anyway. his touch just isn't good enough and he's not got much in the way of agility/ability to skin his marker. Which is hardly surprising given his huge frame.

Beat all round if he stays at Everton, think they'll be much better this season as will he.
