We can't stop Chelsea matching our offer though can we? At the end of the day we also can't stop him choosing Chelsea over us if that is what he desires.
thats the danger: that Chelsea wouldn't have made the offer if they didn't have some serious hope that the player would accept it.

I think Woodward will have to throw some extra cash at the deal to get it over the line.

So it is being portrayed as big bad united paying more vs noble chelsea folk where Lukaku wants to play.

Yeah, I think it's mostly this. So they can claim to Conte that 'we did everything within our powers' but the agent had been bribed by United.

So many aspects of this transfer that is pleasing; we get a cracking goal scorer, plus weaken and derail the league champions and annoy the hell out of Madrid.

Woodward really getting the hang of this now.
Why would our club do this, though? That would make it even more embarrassing for us if it's out there that we matched the bid and he still chose United.

You save face by going out and getting an equally expensive striker and portray him as "the one we wanted all along."

For us to release lines like 'we are no longer interested in Morata' we better have this deal tied up else we will look like fecking idiots.

Don't care where he ends up really. If this is off, we go back to Morata.
Maybe but we have basically screwed him over and then briefed to the press that we're no longer after him, bragging that Lukaku is signed. I presume Lukaku will still join and, if not, that the Morata deal could be revived but he'd have every right to tell us to piss off after the way he's been messed around.

Why is everyone so confident about the 75m bid being accepted!! There has been no word from Utd or Everton saying a bid has been accepted! Therefore there can't have been a medical for Utd..But everyone seems to think it's in the bag. Bid accepted(usually confirmed by both club's)-followed by personal terms and medical is the route that Utd have always used in terms of transfers in the media. I think this is far from over or am I missing something?

HAZARD saga? Remember?

Eh, whether it's Lukaku, Morata or Belotti, none of them are that great that I'm going to be upset about missing out on them.

so you think he'll be in Chelsea blue on Sunday?

We have massively fecked up.

Will end up paying 100mil for Morata now.

God no.

It's going to be a real scandal for us. We told Madrid we won't pursue their player and went for Lukaku to be switched again to Madrid and pay all their price. I won't withstand that.

Keep Rooney?
Do you watch football at all?
If a club agrees to take Rooney without us paying them, we should bite their hand off!

We have a commodity they want.To not use that as leverage to get the nod on the Lukaku deal would be moronic regardless of how much football anyone watches.

Good thread name.

Don't really care about petty articles from pro Chelsea journos. Like posters already mentioned - the line has been fed straight from Chelsea's hierarchy.

As long as Lukaku signs for us. I'm well aboard the hype train.
You think?

The more I think about it, the more it smells like Chelsea trying to make it look liked they tried.

I'd doubt we would let this massive PR disaster happen.

I'm sure you can just switch back to United if he does sign for us. Win-win.

Pogba should unfriend him if he chooses Chelsea now

I don't know why posters are painting clubs in a certain fashion, corrupt or saints. Or even questioning whether Lukaku would prefer Chelsea (I think he would for many reasons).

Everything right now is perfectly believable, Chelsea matching our bid, us still being ahead in the transfer etc.

Rumors where that Conte wanted Morata but was convinced on Lukaku instead. Missing out on Lukaku despite matching the bid would be less embarrassing than seeing Conte walk.

:lol:Calm down you fannys. Do you not remember Real Madrid "swooping" for Pogba at the last minute? Sit back and enjoy the show.

:nono:
Hes in fecking LA with our medical team, his mind is already made up.Pathetic from Chelsea, just leak he was never first choice and you're focusing on other priorities like the big clubs do
It's probably just a medical facility, not ours, they can do a medical for either us or Chelsea as soon as Everton give them the go ahead

Why did we put in a reported £100m bid for Bale when it was obvious he was going to Real Madrid...why did we chase Ronaldo and Fabregas when we were never getting them?
To appear like we were big players in the market.

Not saying that is what's going on here, as like you i can't believe there's nothing to a bid like this so late...

However, if Lukaku goes against his own agent, who looks after 3 of our players, his top mate Pogba, and after lots of sources said this was going through, not to mention being on holiday right near where the tour will start in 2 days, it'll be truly incredible.

Something is not adding up here, either we've got him, we're in on some sort elaborate scheme, or Riola is about to shaft us..

It is a bit grubby though that a player who has indicated all summer that he doesn't want to join us but wants to go to Chelsea instead may end up joining us because we're now so closely linked with his twatty agent and willing to give him so much money for essentially very little work.
