It is a bit grubby though that a player who has indicated all summer that he doesn't want to join us but wants to go to Chelsea instead may end up joining us because we're now so closely linked with his twatty agent and willing to give him so much money for essentially very little work.

Not at all. I'm just happy United are finally playing the game after Gill's stance on agents.

Chelsea know they're beaten. They're feeding the whole "We've made a wholesome, Godly offer. But if he goes with satan, what can we do?" narrative to emerge in the last couple of hours.

so you think he'll be in Chelsea blue on Sunday?
Nope. Already resigned to seeing him sign for you guys.

I really want Belotti myself.

If he goes to Chelsea now after the hype ive done for the summer.

I dont mind a good transfer saga but not when it looked wrapped up like this  I couldn't take the heartbreak.

How did it take Chelsea a whole day and a half to match our bid though, talk about dragging your feet.

This is great news.Chelsea will look like right tits when he signs for us.
Premier league champions bumbling around in the transfer market.Any striker they want to buy now will now cost them a fortune.

We are creating multiple smokescreens for Ronaldo's return.
You joke, but if this falls through surely Woodward will have to do something monumental to save face. We'd be the laughing stock. He'd have to get something even better, not just because we need it but to show we can. Not saying that'd be Ronaldo of course. But it'd have to be something.

We could be about to end up looking very, very silly. Straight choice it's got to be Chelsea as that's where he wanted to go. Can only hope, for our reputation/image as much as getting the player, that we got some kind of assurances guarantees when we started getting loud about having the bid accepted

Why would our club do this, though? That would make it even more embarrassing for us if it's out there that we matched the bid and he still chose United.

You save face by going out and getting an equally expensive striker and portray him as "the one we wanted all along."
Because the narrative that is being woven is that he's moving for money and to help the Devil himself Mino Raiola, rather than 'sporting reasons' (what the feck does that mean?)

Meh, not bothered whatever happens with Lukaku.

Would be equally happy with Morata to be honest.

Wouldn't surprise me if all this was done to try and calm down the mental manager they have in charge, almost a 'see Antonio, we tried, please put down the knife'

Doubt Woodward would let the press say dropped intrest in morata before actually being on a solid footing on this one. Chelsea doing it to please their fans and hoping for the best.

I'm sorry i know people don't like hearing this as we do have new powers in the transfer market these days but Woodward does just comes across as a clown every Summer.

Rumors where that Conte wanted Morata but was convinced on Lukaku instead. Missing out on Lukaku despite matching the bid would be less embarrassing than seeing Conte walk.
He's not walking whether we get Lukaku or not. This portrayal that the media has created where Conte is a raving lunatic who's going around screaming and yelling at people all day is so ridiculous.

Only way I could see him leaving is if we have a repeat of the 15/16 summer under Mourinho.
