When he was seemingly nailed on to join us almost all I saw on this forum is "he's a downgrade on Costa, he's not a top level striker, he's a big lump who scores plenty of goals but is shit technically."

Now he's on his way to Old Trafford and this place is creaming themselves.

Hahaha this is true. Both of our teams really need a striker though. I'd say it's belotti to you guys now who's more of a risk but possibly has a higher ceiling and going into a better and more settled team. It's going to be an interesting summer.

I share your excitement Vancouver, not sure why so many are sudden disappointed when it seems like a month or two ago you would ve said "Morata" and you would ve heard "who?!". Granted, I'd still love him here as well, especially if the rumors of him wanting to really join us are true. If so, feck Real for toying with us and him. If he was just angling for a better contract, feck him.

Something else about Lukaku, is he going to improve a lot after +300 games behind him? In his case his age is irrelevant because he had the time and opportunity to develop the intangibles and didn't. I see people make a comparison with Drogba but Drogba barely played half the amount of games played by Lukaku when he joined Chelsea.

he is a downgrade on Costa if that deal happened.
He is'nt a top level striker. Certainly not yet.
He is a big lump who scores plent but is technically average.

The whole forum has been split between the Lukaku-ites and Morata-ites. Maybe it's the Lukaku fans happy and many others - including me - are underwhelmed?

I've not seen anyone change their stance on Lukaku, though. The people who are happy with this deal, like me, didn't contribute to any discussions of said player because he was on his way to Chelsea. Now, with him apparently joining us, you're bound to see those who'd like him here comment on this potential signing.

On the flip side, those who criticised Lukaku when he was seemingly on his way to Chelsea are still criticising him.

@Orc 's comment was just a random shot in the dark.

This. I liked Lukaku and his consistent goal scoring but didn't comment much about him going to Chelsea. As it is they have Costa so replacing with Lukaku wouldn't have made much difference to them.

My god, literally out of nowhere! Had a very shit*y day but feel so good right now. I said a few times, he would be my 1# CF muppet signing this summer I'm extremely happy with this, especially after he was heavily linked with Chelsea all the time.
I'm sure he will be a top player for us!

In a world where Troy Deeney is a £25m-£30m player, £75m is a steal for a premier league proven goalscorer...

United have more cash than anyone, so who cares if we spend £65m or £75m...certainly as fans, we shouldn't...

We have the choice not to go in for that amount. And Lukaku is not worth 75m pounds. I rather top up a little more for Morata now and Griezmann later. Both are proven on the world stage.

I guess part of the reason for these prices is because the market has changed. The new premier league tv deal has brought in billions into the premier league clubs. Incomes are going sky high now. So asking prices are going up as well to reflect that.

Exactly. I mean when around 60 odd million is shelled on by Everton on Keane and Pickford in a matter of weeks and no one even bats an eyelid, that says it all. This is the new reality.

It was actually in Mourinho's Porto games against Marseille where Pogba bought his career. The saying that we shouldn't buy those who perform well against us is not always sound.
Drogba was superb in a game against Liverpool in Europe which really got the ball rolling on his move to Chelsea.

Are you a journalist or somehow ITK?

Why was the deal delayed for so many weeks if it was always on?

To give Everton time to buy players without everyone knowing they have a lot of cash to burn?

I don't really know how I feel about this. I'm happy about us signing someone, but £75m for Lukaku possibly rising to £90m with add ons astounds me. Maybe it's just me being strange, maybe this is how all transfers will go from this season onwards.

I am happy however we've got Lukaku over Morata, I signed Lukaku on FM16 and he became world player of the year, and broke Sir bobby's goal record in just over 4 seasons, let's hope it's true to life

He'll be excellent in a Mourinho counter attacking set up. Said all along I'd prefer him to Morata so if we do end up with him I'll be quite happy.

Think he'll link up well with Pogba and offers something different to Rashford.

Panic buy. Really disappointed with this signing. Teams seem to be really afraid of being left behind. Just as ridiculous as the Lacazette signing for Arsenal.

One of the best strikers in PL is a panic buy?

It was a Mourinho pick, completely. There's even reports of Drobga saying how he approached him.

A secondary striker, when he have two mobile forwards in Rashford and Martial and a bunch of playmakers who should play #10 as Mkhitaryan or Mata? I feel we need more of an experienced poacher, really, not so much someone to start but to be used as sub to finish of games.
Not impressed with the goal output of any of those mentioned, particularly as a 10. Griezmann would have been lightyears ahead of them. Think we might see more of a goal scoring 10 like Talisca come, or a winger instead and move Mhki to 10, with Griezmann next year.

Ronaldo and Messi are not available so give me examples of players with all these qualities who is available and who you wou would have prefered. Let me just indulge despite the fact that Lukaku has scored severally with his right and has created lots of assists for his Everton teamates with good hold up play
Is it my job to scout for United? But I'll play. Aubameyang for one who is itching to leave Dortmund, Cavani (yes, much reviled on the Caf) are both superior technically to Lukaku and proven goalscorers.

Why am I not surprised?

He scored over 60 goals a year for you?

Is it a lot of money though ? When I look at a transfer between, of all teams, Hull and Leicester reach £18m for a relegated defender then I don't think 4 x that for a proven PL striker is over the top. Bang average PL footballers are transferring for a minimum £15m, theres hardly a transfer between PL clubs for less than that. I might be in a minority but I don't think its ridiculous if it is £75m, it's still £15m short of Pog and that was a year ago when the market was nothing like as crazy as it seems right now.

I think it clearly is a lot of money, but that doesnt make it too much money. Its just we have to translate all the money we've been spending on Pogba, Lukaku, and even before that into something. If we win the league next season with Lukaku up front is it too much money? No. But if we arent even challenging again... Its just not good enough

You mean a #10 who can't play football but scores an occasional goal like Talisca?:nervous: Yes, I also feel we're going for a goalscoring winger before another striker.

I bet Zidane is fuming that this will happen and he won't get money for mbappe after all.
Its not like Real are poppers. They will still get 50-60m from the James sale. They just won two UCLs in a row. That prize money will go a long way in funding their deal.

Who cares about the money, really?

 Lukaku hasnt shown anything to be worth 75m but Morata sure has?

Hard to make a name for yourself out there when you're challenging Benzema, Bale and Ronaldo, the best player in the world for a starting spot and not playing regularly. And also not really in the manager's plans. There's a reason why Madrid bought him back from Juve.

If he were given a run of games under Mou i suspect he will improve.

Not not his biggest fan but this whole 'flat track bully' and 'goes missing against the top teams' argument is just nonsense.

It's always harder against top teams given the quality of opposition and if you're not playing for a Madrid, you aren't going to get many chances.

Besides, in the final few months of the season we drew with Southampton, Swansea, West Brom, Everton, Hull and Bournemouth - all winnable games...even if he only scored in these types of games, we'd have been right up there.

Ducker: Lukaku to MUFC

BBC/Stone: Lukaku to MUFC

MEN: Lukaku to MUFC

Craig Norwood: Lukaku to MUFC.

Paul Joyce: Lukaku to MUFC

How many more do people need to be convinced?

Manutd.com : "Ramsey to United" - I wont celebrate until I hear it from the player himself

70 of his 85 goals have come against those currently outside the top 6. If you take away all his goals last season Everton would still have finished 7th which is an incredible stat really.
Seems the perfect buy, since it was exactly our incredible inability to score the likes of Burnley or Swansea at home that doomed us last season.

Happy we're signing him. Him/Morata/Lacazette, i think all would have been good options.
Think it's good for our play to get a target man up top who is a proper beast physically. If he improves on his technique then we might have a better version of Drogba on our hands, and worst case we'll have a great target-man who will score goals.

I don't want to consider the price, it's gone beyond my understanding the last few years, so I just cannot think much more over it.

1 top striker & 1 talented central defender in now. A good start.
