When he was seemingly nailed on to join us almost all I saw on this forum is "he's a downgrade on Costa, he's not a top level striker, he's a big lump who scores plenty of goals but is shit technically."

Now he's on his way to Old Trafford and this place is creaming themselves.

There's still a very large number of people saying exactly that

Jim White didn't even know what was happening, then he saw the breaking news came back from a commercial break and suddenly knew everything about the deal, he is a joke.

I wonder if we can convince City to sell us De Bruyne and complete the Jose's 'rejects' front 3 :smirk:

Do you see anyone lauding his technical abillity and first touch here you toad?

We recognise his abillity to score goals and that we've most likely signed a class PL striker but never a worldie.

This gets better and better. I want every single 'journalist' to nail their colours to the mast, one way or another, so we can pinpoint the charlatans when the dust settles.
 Spot on

Ducker: Lukaku to MUFC

BBC/Stone: Lukaku to MUFC

MEN: Lukaku to MUFC

Craig Norwood: Lukaku to MUFC.

Paul Joyce: Lukaku to MUFC

How many more do people need to be convinced?

Jackson too.

All of them against Jim White and some guy from the Mirror

Im really happy with this transfer if it's true. Better option than Morata for me.

Is well in with Moshiri. That much is true.

If you get your head out of your arse then you'll see there's loads of negative comments on here too.

Lukaku is 24 and Drogba was 26 when Chelsea bought him from Marseille. Drogba became a big game player later in his career. It wasn't until he got to Marseille that he started showing the ability that prompted Abramovich to throw oil money at Marseille.
It was actually in Mourinho's Porto games against Marseille where Pogba bought his career. The saying that we shouldn't buy those who perform well against us is not always sound.

I still feel he'd be a downgrade on Costa for you but at OT he's obviously an upgrade on what we have now Zlatan has gone

Basically. But that's how people function.

I don't like him and hate the kind of football he represents However this is a good signing given his age, scoring record and potential. He should contribute to our goals as we make our claim on domestic silverwares. When we are ready to be CL contenders, we will likely get somebody better. The journey has to be progressive and realistic.

That's a bit much. We have had plenty worse here during our best periods who were and to this day are fan favourites. Furthermore if you hate his play style; then that's down to our manager who actually loves that type of football.

Lukaku could be Drogbaesque for us, we are signing him at the right age. My one reservation about Morata, is that players in a great team like Real Madrid, are surrounded by other threats. If I was trying to hold on to a lead in the last 15 minutes against Real Madrid, and they are pressing for an equaliser (or a winner for that matter) with Ronaldo, Morata, and Bale/Benzema up front, I know who I'm most afraid of, and will give most of my attention to stoping... and it isn't Morata. So he has played with that little bit of extra space. However, stop Lukaku at Everton and it's job half done. He will frighten teams with his pace and power, and will open up space for those around him.

Everton fans who want rid are kidding themselves, it's like the "blessing in disguise brigade" here when Ibrahimovic got injured.

BBC have changed their headline from:

Man Utd agree £75m Lukaku Fee
to
Man Utd "agree £75m Lukaku Fee"

They're feeling a bit less sure

I preferred Morata. Because he's very good with the ball at his feet. He's unknown in the league and I though mou could carry him to the next level. I don't think Lukaku has a very good first touch and isn't extremely creative in in and around the box.

with that said. I think he's probably the safer option. He will most likely hit the ground running, Will be fantastic in away games against canon fodder, and also feck you conte.

I would love if we went for maybe another striker too to really go for the epl /CL. I trust in Jose and Mr Woodward to get the signings. I have confidence in them

Surprised so many want Morata over Lukaku, the latter has had one semi decent goalscoring season in his career so far and Lukaku has 50+ goals already in the Prem for numerous teams.

He's a bit of a donkey though with his first-touch/link-up player admittedly. Morata is better in that regard, but United need a goalscorer plain and simple, Lukaku is more proven in that regard.

I understand your disappointment, but Belotti and Morata are still on the market. A 70- 80m offer and of them is yours

Everton are probably trying to stall as long as possible so they can get more targets for a pittance.

I think it's been obvious Lukaku will be sold, they've been spending like it's going out of fashion.

Just depends whether it's us, or if Chelsea will raise there bid.

I would imagine though Raiola will prefer us, and hopefully having Pogba here will convince him also.

Lukaku had 6 assists in the PL 2016-17 season, 1 behind Costa and Kane and at #3 in all strikers (no. 9s). So its not like he is useless at bringing others into play like some are suggesting.

i might be in the minority but i hope this isn't true. Lukaku for 75m sounds very inflated to me. We should'dve gotten Morata and Griezmann next summer with a little bit of a top up. Hasn't shown anything worth 75m at all.

.
There is no use in stalling. The whole world knows this is happening. Teams have already taken notice. So they will bump up the price already when Everton come calling.

I know the most reliable source havent said anything yet but I guess agent Schneiderlin did his job well there.

Basically. But that's how people function.
I've not seen anyone change their stance on Lukaku, though. The people who are happy with this deal, like me, didn't contribute to any discussions of said player because he was on his way to Chelsea. Now, with him apparently joining us, you're bound to see those who'd like him here comment on this potential signing.

On the flip side, those who criticised Lukaku when he was seemingly on his way to Chelsea are still criticising him.

@Orc 's comment was just a random shot in the dark.

In a world where Troy Deeney is a £25m-£30m player, £75m is a steal for a premier league proven goalscorer...

United have more cash than anyone, so who cares if we spend £65m or £75m...certainly as fans, we shouldn't...

It's easy to make a wide spread statment like that. There is a are plenty of people not for the transfer on here or would prefer Morata, plenty of people didn't want Morata either.

Anyone you can call out that has changed their tune?

It's also a bit odd that he's being painted as some sort of Heskeyesque lump who can barely control the ball. I've always thought he was damn good on the ball for someone as big and heavy as him. Some lazy stereotyping going on there methinks

 Lukaku hasnt shown anything to be worth 75m but Morata sure has?

I'm not a huge fan and whilst overpriced, he guarantees you Zlatan's goals are replaced, which was a priority and good to see.

But I don't really see him offering anything more, which is a bit disappointing given how static/immobile we were at times and we would be paying the 5th biggest fee of all time without really improving too much.

decent player yes, but goes missing far to much in big games, if it happen and it looks like it will, lets hope he does not flop .

I think you could levy that argument against the entire Everton team, not just Lukaku...
