If we don't sign him now I'm officially done following any transfer stories until I see the player with the shirt on

Surely this is done?

Manchester United believe they are on the verge of agreeing a deal to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton for an initial payment of £75 million.

Everton countered claims emanating from Old Trafford that the transfer had been finalised, but the expectation remains that Lukaku will become a United player.

ITS DONE, this is pure theater. Stop getting sucked into negative reporting. They just want the clicks. WE...DON'T...BRIEF...JOURNOS...ON...MAYBE...SIGNINGS.

It looks overwhelmingly sided to a deal being done, but jim white is, believe it or not, well connected at everton.

** Romelu Lukaku is still expected to become a Manchester United player, despite Everton saying no deal has been agreed.

** The initial fee Manchester United will pay for Romelu Lukaku is £75m, but add-ons will increase the fee.

** Romelu Lukaku was due back for pre-season training today, but he's stayed in Los Angeles with the club's permission.

** It is likely that Romelu Lukaku will have a Manchester United medical in Los Angeles and agree a £200,000-a-week wage.

Good player, knew Mourinho would like him and be interested, so I wondered why we were after Morata for that reason. A lot of money... Seems too much and we better do amazing things next season with all the money we continue to spend every summer.

Didnt Zlatan have a shit record against English teams in the Champions League or some bad record in the UCL? Did that stop us from signing him? Yes and yes.

Ibrahimovic has a good CL record, people have always been weird about that.

Classic Mourinho striker, will give your attack a focal point and probably bang in 20 league goals.

He'll offer much more on the counter than Ibra but much less in terms of hold up and playmaking. His technique isn't good enough to ever be a truly elite player - I can't see him ever being one of the best 10-15 players in the world - but he can still be a very effective one.

Overall, it's probably a wash with Ibra. Improvement in your attack will probably depend mainly on whether other players (Martial, Rashford, Mkhi) improve.

Honestly Morata or Lukaku - it doesn't really matter. Crazy money for both. They're not worth half that.

A great signing, and I don't know why anyone here would think otherwise. He's scoring 20+ goals a season playing in a shite Everton team, so how much is he going to do with Pogba/Mhiki/Rashford/Martial/Mata around him?

20-25+ league goals this season, barring any injuries. What more could you want?
Good point. And thats the danger of Morata, that he won't find as many chances created for him as at Real and Juve.

Think Lukaku will hit the ground running too, Jose knows him well, buddies with Pogba and has played in the EPL for years and been there or thereabouts for top scorer. Just hope we can now get an SS and maybe a winger to feed him (and LB).

If we haven't also agreed with Lukaku to join us, it would be an incredibly daft to brief the press. As Ed is much more competent than that, I would assume we already have an iron-clad assurance from Lukaku's campt that he will be joining us. So Chelsea can do as much talking to Everton as they want.
cast your mind back to Obi Mikel

Technically sound, ambidextrous or at least comfortable using his weak leg, fast, intelligent forward that is good at both holding up the ball or facilitating others (the wing forwards or midfielders) to score while capable of scoring 30 goals a season himself.

Lukaku has the positional awareness and touch of a deer in headlight. If you think Zlatan was bad at times last season, you aint seen nothing yet.

Ronaldo and Messi are not available so give me examples of players with all these qualities who is available and who you wou would have prefered. Let me just indulge despite the fact that Lukaku has scored severally with his right and has created lots of assists for his Everton teamates with good hold up play

This is a big deal. Literally. 75m+ add ons and a 200k a week wage. Quite an investment from the club.

That aside, he's a great forward and he improves our goal threat immeasurably.

Listening to TalkSport radio and they're still absolutely convinced that Everton have rejected a £75 million bid from us. More specifically, Jim White. Talk about sticking to your guns.

I am so sick and tired of reading shite like this.

A 24 year old striker who was last seasons 2nd top scorer not worth £37,5m in todays market?

Have you been living under a rock for the last few years?

A secondary striker, when he have two mobile forwards in Rashford and Martial and a bunch of playmakers who should play #10 as Mkhitaryan or Mata? I feel we need more of an experienced poacher, really, not so much someone to start but to be used as sub to finish of games.

its because white is moshiri's pal. very close according to everton mob

Is it a lot of money though ? When I look at a transfer between, of all teams, Hull and Leicester reach £18m for a relegated defender then I don't think 4 x that for a proven PL striker is over the top. Bang average PL footballers are transferring for a minimum £15m, theres hardly a transfer between PL clubs for less than that. I might be in a minority but I don't think its ridiculous if it is £75m, it's still £15m short of Pog and that was a year ago when the market was nothing like as crazy as it seems right now.

Can he be our very own Drogba? I wanted Lukaku but thought he was nailed on to be Chelski player! What a coup if true...Only worries is Jim White banging on about deal not being agreed on Talksport!

Anyway Transfer Muppet Window is Here!

Surely a player is worth what a buying club is willing to pay for them? Really, it’s only in hindsight can we assess if a player was actually ‘worth’ the money paid for them.

Rio was expensive at the time, but for his achievements at the club was worth every penny.

A Lukaku deal was -obviously- already arranged, or else Everton wouldn't have spent the huge amounts of money this summer that they just did.

The only question on my mind was whether that deal was to Chelsea or to us, and right now it seems like it was us all along.

Maybe his source has strung him along in the hope that Chelsea will offer more.

When he was seemingly nailed on to join us almost all I saw on this forum is "he's a downgrade on Costa, he's not a top level striker, he's a big lump who scores plenty of goals but is shit technically."

Now he's on his way to Old Trafford and this place is creaming themselves.

Morata is good enough. It's just that he is at RM where there are better players. As the poster above mentioned - no shame in being second choice at Madrid.

So is Paco Alcacer. If you ever seen him at Valencia, he is good enough. If he is not good enough, Barca will not buy him from Valencia.

His price is same with Morata fee when transferred back. 30 million Euro.

And also he is considered Striker for Spain NT (with Morata). No shame also being benched for MSN.

If Barca has the benches like Madrid, with skill of Kovacic, Isco, Nacho, and Ascencio, sure they will rotate, and Alcacer will score more goals that he scored (6 only last season).

So what is really of your point ? Madrid bench warmer is guarantee starter at United, is it ? And if he moves to Man Utd suddenly he will be a beast in EPL ?

If he wants to prove himself, ask for transfer request, or ask for being loaned once again or just do the Javi Martinez, buy your own contract.

And i heard, Barca has rebought Deolefou to play with Alcacer like in U20.

Deulofeu, who has been shit at Everton, but save his career at AC Milan, now go back to Spain. Bought by his home club Barca. For what ? For being back up. Same with the Morata lad.

From 30 million euro for 70 million pound, from the bench ? Really...

Because if Everton fans can plainly see his weaknesses, they're sure as hell going to be exposed at United.

There's almost no footballer in the world who avoids criticism from his own fans. It's standard now.

yeh but you should remember they're all copying each others story. none of those stories are individually sourced, easily noticeable

I haven't seen enough of Morata to be able to make an informed comment on him. But I'm happy with Lukaku. He's a proven goal scorer in this league and probably the only one we could realistically sign right now. He scored goals for Everton and should be able to do this for us, in fact, he should be able to score more for us with the service we will provide.
In the current market I don't think the price is too inflated either but time will tell whether it is regarded as good business or not.

All this and we get to stick two fingers to Real too.

This is an extremely lazy comparison. Aside from the fact that they are both black, fast and strong. Drogba was the quintessential big game player, while inconsistent against minnows, bar a couple of seasons. Lukaku is the opposite in this regard.
Lukaku is 24 and Drogba was 26 when Chelsea bought him from Marseille. Drogba became a big game player later in his career. It wasn't until he got to Marseille that he started showing the ability that prompted Abramovich to throw oil money at Marseille.

I bet there are a few little details to be sorted, that's all. So while he may be technically correct, I'd imagine the bulk of a deal in principle is done. Critically, I'd imagine the player has committed to signing.
