Hard to make a name for yourself out there when you're challenging Benzema, Bale and Ronaldo, the best player in the world for a starting spot and not playing regularly. And also not really in the manager's plans. There's a reason why Madrid bought him back from Juve.

If he were given a run of games under Mou i suspect he will improve.
Well you said he is already worth 75m+, which isnt the case though. Now you're saying he WILL be IF given the chance to play up top alone.

Will this lead to an unexpected reaction from Conte? There have been rumours of him not being happy with Chelsea. If they have been telling him that Lukaku was all under control and now this happens....I'm expecting some fireworks down in London over this! Watch this space!

70 of his 85 goals have come against those currently outside the top 6. If you take away all his goals last season Everton would still have finished 7th which is an incredible stat really.
How many games did we fail to win last season against teams outside the top 6? If he can help us win all those games, then Im happy even if he has the off game against the top 6.

Very simplistic way of looking at impact of goals scored. Getting the 3rd goal for your team when winning 2-1 would be considered unimportant by this stat, which is nonsense obviously.

Ok - Lukaku is a big lump who just scores a lot of goals - but if we had a big lump who scored a lot of goals last season, we wouldn't have ended 6th !

I never thought scoring a lot of goals for a crap team like Everton wouldnt be considered a big plus :)

Seems the perfect buy, since it was exactly our incredible inability to score the likes of Burnley or Swansea at home that doomed us last season.

Our record against the Top 6 was woeful last year and a huge issue. 2 goals away from home against them sides in the whole season is shocking.

Manutd.com : "Ramsey to United" - I wont celebrate until I hear it from the player himself

one mistake almost a decade ago does not imply a trend. When we have briefed journo's all at once in the way we have for lukaku, we sign those players. We don't brief journo's with maybe signings.

he is a downgrade on Costa if that deal happened.
He is'nt a top level striker. Certainly not yet.
He is a big lump who scores plent but is technically average.

The whole forum has been split between the Lukaku-ites and Morata-ites. Maybe it's the Lukaku fans happy and many others - including me - are underwhelmed?
After watching this young consistent goalscorer in the Premier League for this long, how is he a downgrade from Costa? Especially when he is also just 24?
Difference between Lukaku and top level is a top level team.
Technically average is not correct. All you have to do is just watch some of his goals on youtube. Is Harry Kane a technical striker?
Also he is not just a big lump, he's a strong striker with very good pace.

I understand you feel underwhelmed by Lukaku but come on, but Lukaku is not Duncan Ferguson, he is not Bas Dost, he is no Mitroglou, he is not a Slimani. He is a top striker with pace and skill who has time and time again proven himself to be great in the Premier League.

Don't get blinded by "popular belief".

Yes but confidence played a huge key last year. We didnt score at home against low table teams. But if we put them all away this season, we take that confidence into big away games. Just that sense of we can score now is big.

They are really in bad situation now because of Conte. He offloaded Costa in the wrong time then they lost Lukaku, meaning they're now without a striker except Batshyuai. Morata's price is 90m and Belotti 100m and both Madrid and Torino will milk them to no end abusing their state of having no strikers because he offloaded Costa in the wrong time.

I can see this the first step in the beginning of problems between Conte and Roman.

Agreed, worse than average.

Well he's the sort of lumpy striker Jose likes - but I never liked that style of play myself.

Scoring loads of goals for "crap" teams, isn't necessarily transferable to scoring loads of goals for top teams. Both set of teams create different goals because the opposition play differently against them. Just look at Llorente or Negredo.

He's averaged 21.5 goals the last two seasons with Everton. We must make a good 30/50% more chances. I see no way he doesn't get at least 30 goals all comps for us.

He's a very hard worker and he will only be getting better

Lukaku
Mhky - Pogba - Mata
Herrera - new dm
Rojo - Bialy - Smaloff - Valencia

We're looking very good. That's a physical imposing side

I would've preferred Morata, but 75m doesn't seem that bad for Lukaku. He guarantees goals at the very least.

We have the choice not to go in for that amount. And Lukaku is not worth 75m pounds. I rather top up a little more for Morata now and Griezmann later. Both are proven on the world stage.

So Morata at £80m is better value than Lukaku? How many league games did he actually play for Juventus? Only once scored 20 goals is a season. How on earth do you reckon he's proven on the world stage?

I'm in no way saying Morata is a bad player, but he has a hell of a lot to prove.

£75m is a lot of money, but this is the market - unless you know of a couple of proven PL strikers who are available for a knock down £50m?

Our away form vs the top four wasn't great but when do you have an easy time away at any top four in any league, honestly? Even Fergusons sides had problems season after season - but that's understandable. It's not those games that win you titles.

He scores a lot against weaker teams. Lack of goals against said same teams caused us to be 6th

Benteke was sold for £27m with £5m addons and people are complaining about £75m for Lukaku? He was 2nd top scorer last season. Outscored Sanchez, Aguero, Costa and Alli. Some of you are beyond ridiculous.

from the Shed End:
Breaking news...
Lukaku is still going to Chelsea apparently. His first touch took him to Man United for a minute but he's back on track now.

Well to be fair one is a winger, one is a #10, one is a crock who spends half the season on the injury table. So technically he only outscored Costa position wise.

Record against the top sides is usually the deciding factor in where the title goes.
