I am very sure some are so derisive of him only because he played for Everton for 5 years and we are supposed to be Manchester United. If he came from a fancy league playing under a fancy club, would have been greeted with more enthusiasm here.

It's absolutely nothing to do with what club he plays for, his game is limited and while he WILL score goals, a lot of us just wanted to get a player who could offer both.

This is the only problem I have with Lukaku. He's not actually that strong and struggles with his back to goal. It's his only weakness as a striker.

Exactly so it's baffling that people think he is similar to Drogba. They have completely different strengths.

A great signing, and I don't know why anyone here would think otherwise. He's scoring 20+ goals a season playing in a shite Everton team, so how much is he going to do with Pogba/Mhiki/Rashford/Martial/Mata around him?

20-25+ league goals this season, barring any injuries. What more could you want?
This. There is a lot of difference between the attackers Who play for Everton and those who play for United. He will score a lot with the service provided by our attackers or midfielders.Really Happy with this signing.

News aside.. when was the last time we had a bull upfront for us? I can't seem to recall the club having a strong forward with the build of Lukaku.
Van Nistlerooy was seriously underrated in terms of strength and hold up play.

But probably Tevez. Despite being a midget, he was inexplicably great at being a big man, somehow.

Flat track bully Lukaku vs all those lower league sides we couldn't put away last season will get us within a few points of top of the table.

Reasonable upgrade in 2nd season from Rashford, Pogba, Mhkitariyan etc should make us serious contenders.

Add Griezeman next summer and we are very close to a top drawer Euro 1st XI

DDG
Valencia Lindelof, Bailly, Shaw
Weigl,
Herrera Pogba
Mhkitariyan, Lukaku, Griezeman

Am getting more and more excited and empathetic about this signing as every hour passes. Buzzing.

Liverpool fan gets it, but plenty of our own don't?

It's a great signing. He'll score a shitload of goals.

It is probably all the social media crap that annoys me. The thought of a menage a trois with him and Lingard constantly on twitter. :(

Strange if that's your concern regarding a new signing.

i get the feeling a lot of the giddy fans now re.lukaku were the same ones ridiculing him when morata looked nailed on......

He is proven as a good premier league player. But proven in the Champions League, or as the player who will fix our goal scoring problems and lift our entire team to the next level? Not even close

He's barely played in the Champions league. There's nothing to suggest he won't do well there. Last time played in Europa he did pretty well (8 goals in 7 starts for Everton). As for the 2nd part no one can be proven to do that until they actually come here so that's a moot point.

I don't like him and hate the kind of football he represents However this is a good signing given his age, scoring record and potential. He should contribute to our goals as we make our claim on domestic silverwares. When we are ready to be CL contenders, we will likely get somebody better. The journey has to be progressive and realistic.

Its fine if you don't like the signing. But I don't think the amount of flak he is getting is deserved honestly. He is statistically the second best striker in the league after all.

Didnt Zlatan have a shit record against English teams in the Champions League or some bad record in the UCL? Did that stop us from signing him? Yes and yes.

Congrats United fans, if Lukaku deal is true. :) This does not necessarily exclude Morata? Although, the rest of the money should be spent on centre midfield and wing backs..?

Ugh. I'd prefer Morata. Lukaku represents the kind of football I dislike.

Hardly proven then is he?

There are (imo wrong, but too late for that now it seems) reasons to go down this route rather that Morata, but the idea that Lukaku is somehow more proven at the elite level isnt one of them

Chelsea will probably match our bid and it will be down to Lukaku where he wants to go.

My issue with Lukaku is his mentality in big games.

The missed penalty against us in the semi final and he missed a couple of golden chances for Belgium when Wales knocked them out in the Euros.

I know these are isolated incidents, but those are two of the biggest games he's played in and he fluffed his lines each time.

That said, he's young, and hopefully being at United will instill more of a big game mentality in him.

Some are salty, Morata and Lukaku are close in terms of quality, but i think people shouldnt be coming here and writing down their personal disappointments over not signing Morata. We cant sign them all

If we haven't also agreed with Lukaku to join us, it would be an incredibly daft to brief the press. As Ed is much more competent than that, I would assume we already have an iron-clad assurance from Lukaku's campt that he will be joining us. So Chelsea can do as much talking to Everton as they want.

He's proven at scoring goals week in week out in England. That's good enough.

Lukaku is more proven. It's not an idea. It's a fact. Morata has shown nowhere near the consistency of Lukaku so far.

But didnt he score against all the big teams last season?

Ronaldo missed two of the biggest penalties in two back to back Champions League games at that point in this career.
