Romelu Lukaku | Napoli watch

His time here was a non-event for me. Completely meh, scored some goals but few against teams with a pulse and had a terrible playing style to boot.

I've forgotten him already.
How can you forget PSG away? One of the most memorable nights since Fergie left, arguably the most.

I didn't. I said he scored few against teams with a pulse. One great win in two seasons is a non-event for Manchester United.

Lets not forget that he ducked an FA Cup Final because the World Cup was happening.

He was never Manchester United in any sense.

Nothing against the guy, but glad he's gone. Overall okay to good first season (bar the genuine 1/10 perfomance against City at home) but his second season here is one of the worst I've seen from a starting United striker. He was shockingly bad at just doing the basics in football. Thanks for playing a huge part in PSG away, though, our most memorable game post-Fergie.

But he's not SAF and never will be. Why is the solution "wait and see"? Woodward has already thrown him under a bus and his reaction is underwhelming if I'm being kind.
Where is the DOF?
Where is the accountability?
How is is that Juventus were able to win the Scudetto within 6 years of Calciopoli yet we've done the literal opposite? (We were Champions when SAF stepped down, had won 5 out of 7 titles and missed out on the other 2 by an aggregate of 1 point (Chelsea 2010) and Goal Difference (2012).
I remember the summers of 2001 and 2007 in particular. Why? Because we behaved as a big club should in those years. Ever since 2007 (which the Glazers probably had little to do with as it had probably been budgeted from before they took over), we've acted like beggars while crowing about being the richest people in town.Yet the fans take it, make excuses for inaction and side with the leeches.
Juventus signed Ronaldo last summer, along with Can (free), Douglas Costa (£30m ish) Joao Cancelo (£35m ish). They won an 8th straight Scudetto this season and have still proceeded to:
1. Buy 2 midfielders (both young/coming into their prime)
2. 2 CBs (Demiral & De Ligt)
3. 2 Full Backs (Danilo & Pellegrini)
4. 1 reserve Keeper (Buffon)

That is 7 players, of which at least 4 are starters, 2 knocking on the door and 1 club legend. This is along with a new Manager. What is our excuse?

Our excuse are owners who value profit before anything else, they don't give a shit about our history or the ambition that is a part of us. Honestly I'm pretty sure they don't even care about the sport in general. Because of their take-over we had minimal funds for 8 years while Real, Barca, City and Chelsea outspent us by more than 500M, 500M during a period when Ronaldo cost under 100M, hell even Liverpool outspent us by more than 100M in the initial 8 years of Glazer rule.

The Glazers let rivals catch up and they've passed us and left us. Now they've done the math, they know that for us to be on par with the giants of Europe again it will cost more than a potential return from the risky business of competing for glory, so they have settled to invest just enough to make us a top 4 club that will qualify for the CL and that's it.

Read a forbes article that went through our economics, they have directly and indirectly taken out over 1 billion pounds from the club since their take-over, that's our excuse.

Like a lot of others in the thread you are being emotional and therefore not rational. Agree he wasn't a great fit but to claim he did nothing is disingenuous.

A better international central forward available (at the same age) on the market for a lesser sum than Lukaku?? Please give the name.

Not sure why you quoted my post, I didn't say Lukaku was shit or something. 74 million for Lukaku is a very good deal for ManUtd, considering his ManUtd career.

I said his time here was a non-event. Lukaku will be a mere footnote in the history of Manchester United. A failure even, considering what he cost. I don't think it has anything to do with being emotional, its just a fact.

Most players will be footnotes in the history of United, doesn't mean they didn't do anything for the club. There are players still at the club who have done a lot worse than Lukaku. It is emotional when some of the reactions have been completely downplaying him as a player.

Not especially sorry to see the back of him (I never wanted him signed in the first place) but losing our only proven goalscorer will almost certainly come back to bite us.

#Notforeveryone.

The music is NSFW.

Appalling watch that, still can’t believe how bad his technical ability is.

You could argue that you could make a comp like that of all strikers but it genuinely felt like it was like that for 90 mins every week with Lukaku.

He looks ridiculously out of shape in that vid as well, clearly he was muscular but the fat in his face says a lot about his general condition.

Also - not for everyone? Yeah that’s the perfect hash tag for a league with racism problems, what the feck.

He was a record signing for a forward. He's arrived, did OK against weak teams, won nothing, alienated the fans and left. If that isn't a non-event then I don't know what is. The most noteworthy thing about his time here was his acrimonious departure. Sad.

He had a very good first season.

Second season was unacceptable. Poor performances are one thing but not getting yourself fit for almost an entire year is a cardinal sin. Shows a poor mentality and lack of self motivation. The guy would be visibly exhausted every time he sprinted for more than 5 metres.

I think Greenwood is already the superior player and that he will surprise a lot of people despite his young age. Solskjaer hasn’t given up on Sánchez either. Big season for Rashford and Martial now.
With Rashford, Martial, Sanchez and Greenwood i think we have plenty of options considering we will probably play with one central striker in a lot of games

I must admit I thought we would have brought in another forward player this summer as well as James but certainly a wide forward would seem a priority over a central striker

Should've charged Inter with 1m per Lukaku's misplaced touch instead of money package.
75m should be easily covered in his first season there.

I'm still amazed he's gone to such a technical league. Italian defenders will have him for breakfast once they figure him out

Oh well... not our problem anymore *shrugs*

Will we finally get to see the magical Perisic-Lukaku combination?

I am not sad to see Lukaku go, just wished we would had replaced him.
Let's hope Rashy, Martial and Greenwood can step up.

Can’t believe they paid that. Man’s living off years ago.
70m pounds....

He looks very thin in this photo:

Classic, innit? Fat and overweight while going out with you, then goes and gets into proper shape and is all 'the best version of me' for the next relationship.

Did he really though? Didnt he score like half of his 1st years goal tally before the end of September then go on a barren run for months?

I think he will suit Italy

Looking on our first team page our "forwards" section looks incredibly thin and consists of Sanchez, Rashy and Martial... compare that the the "defence" section

I wonder if him piling on so much weight added to his poor first touch as it made him even slower to react?

It says everything for his first touch that when my ipad cut out the picture around the time in the PSG game they were saying the ball was played towards him and he's one on one I was waiting for them to say and he's miscontrolled it.

Also he didn't help himself he made that great run in I think it was the Chelsea game, which he then goes and stands panting for the next section of the game to recover from. So his good run is forgotten

Inter have had their pants pulled down there, absolute waste of €80m. Thank god that useless pudding is off our books.

That was hilarious, looked like he’s just run a marathon after that run - was goosed

The answer to my question is that Inter should not have signed him.

But hey, I'm not complaining: 70 million + deadwood thrown away.
Ok I got it, but give me a couple of names available that could have been better and cheaper than Lukaku? I'm awaiting

Lukaku averages 15-16 league goals per year, that's average for a CF who is limited. If you can't find a better player who can score more than 15 league goals for 74 million and 300K per week then you should ask serious questions about your scouting team.

He literally can't create football and chances for the rest of the attackers and AMFs.
