Wait.. this is the second big game against top team Lukaku performed well and made significant contributions to both goals. Big game curse confirm over. He did made a significant assist for Martial against Spurs which have to be acknowledge. His performance against Chelsea is still the best and against Liverpool very recently is more convincing.

3rd. Assisted Martial's goal too vs Spurs where he was fantastic and was only denied by Lloris. Short memory and all that .

Glad to see Lukaku is beginning to lose the "donkey" tag that many in this thread chose to attach to him.

As said above, he is Jose's new Drogba.

Best moment was when we he chased Lovren so late in the game. Despite starting 2 feet behind, he almost got the ball needing Lovren to make a brilliant tackle.

He won't ever match the holdup play of Drogba, he was sensational at it.

His goal output will likely be higher though, Drogba didn't score that much.

Some people have been downplaying Lukaku's performance against Spurs, not only did he get the assist, he hit the post and also forced Lloris into a very good save before that.

He has improved since the start of the season, which is in keeping with his clear and consistent improvement every season at his previous clubs. That was one of the reasons why I was in favour of signing him.

Perhaps not, but that's not a slight on Lukaku when, as you say, Drogba was sensational in the hold-up role. One of the best the Prem has ever seen in fact.

I still want Kane though.

It’s a bit odd seeing so many people shocked at his improvement during his first year at the club, with a new set of team mates, especially considering he’s still relatively young.

Like, what the feck did you expect?

He was brilliant today.

I concluded, some months ago, that he probably ain't top notch. Good - but not top notch.

Nothing would please me more than to be proven wrong. He's getting close to doing that.

Something something 1st touch something something

That little bring down and stab through for Mata's run before Rasher's second was just .

I love this guy, I love that he loves it and I love that he wants it, wants more and wants to be better all the time. As he ages and his game grows he will learn to use his body a little better in Mourinh's system and as our attack starts to re-balance itself after the shocker of LVG he's going to prove himself a fantastic striker. When you give him the tools to make fire he can create an inferno.

Without knowing what's going on behind the scenes this is the first time I'll say it looks like he's kind of realized the actual effort level and the psychological state required to continuously excel at a 'top organization'. At least had a taste of how it is.

And setting aside a lot of other important factors for now, I think he can improve a lot. Like 'not even his staunchest fans ever thought he could get that could' a lot.

Really impressed with him of late. Great work rate, movement, and general passion. Long may it continue.

The header that hit the post was a brilliant header. He was moving back to head the ball, to generate such power was just superb.

Btw apart from city he scored or assisted against all the big 6 teams. So much nonsense about flat track bully.

This is exactly how I was thinking in my head of his displays against Chelsea palace and today but you put it much better.

This is the thoughts that seperates great great players from good players. I think he thought when he came he was saying the right things, I know I am good enoiugh, always learning etc which is good to say but I really think he has realized that wow fook every movement is scrutinized here being good is not good enough I need to be great to be considered good here and every single game. Sometimes the hardest games are against the fodder trying to raise yourself.

I feel like something has clicked in him over past couple of games. He just seems to be playing a lot smarter or something, not sure how to describe it fully.

Shame he didn't get his 100th goal against Liverpool yesterday, would have been a great moment and well deserved in his current form. Good game from him yesterday, I was impressed. First half in particular he caused a lot of problems for them and basically made both of the goals possible. Unfortunately couldn't shine in the second half, but that was as a result of the team dropping off and not really venturing forward.

Great performance yesterday. Brilliant first half, quieter second half but not his fault. Great to see him winning aerial duels. Has been a lot better in recent game, hopefully he is starting to settle into the team now.

I really don’t care about assists, it’s such a useless statistic. He was just as involved in the second goal yesterday, but that’s not an assist. He’s on the pitch, he and everyone else are assisting.

It’s 23 in 42 which is good, but really should be better.

Half of the assist attributed to players are like that. Or do you think only assist that leave the scorer to shoot into an empty net count?

23 in 42 doesn't look the best of records, I agree. But the service he is getting is atrocious, he is feeding on scraps.

You seem to have missed my point, or didn’t read my post properly and thought I was talking about Rashford’s first goal?

I said he was just as involved in the second goal yesterday, but clearly he didn’t get an assist as the ball went to Mata and then Rashford. If he doesn’t win that header, we don’t get a chance, and that’s why I believe counting assists is completely pointless.

When you consider the context and how Lukaku plays, the number of assists is a good stat. He is directly linking with our forwards all the time.

I misread it, apologies. Anyway the number of assists is a good stat, and demonstrates that his link up play is actually very good, contrary of the narrative by some that his is a donkey or whatever.

Becoming a fan favourite with his attitude. Improving all the time.

Hoping he can hit the 35 mark with us this season.

We play minimum 10 games this season and he needs 12 more goals.

If we qualify to next round in FA cup and also beat Sevilla then minimum 13 games. Achievable if he scores few braces and at least a hat trick.

In 2018,
10 starts and 2 times subbed on.
8 goals and 4 assists.

In PL,
8 games, 4 goals and 3 assists.

Difficult games too, away game against Spurs and Burnley, home game against Chelsea and Liverpool.

Hoping for SF of the CL, which will come about if the big man scores.

Honestly I have been very impressed with how he has performed since the start of the year. He has really upped his game and pushed himself to improve. Maybe he can be a world class striker after all.

That's a great record.

It's not. The most important thing is the league, where he has 14 goals in 29 games - in this day and age our top-scorer should be closer to a 1/1-ratio. Lukaku is good, but we need great to win the league. Out of the 14 goals in the league, none are against the other teams in the top 4 (not that it really matters too much) - other goals are against Yeovil, Derby, CSKA, Basel, Huddersfield (FA Cup), games where a striker is really expected to delivery. Lukaku is a decent striker, but he is not anywhere near the best and that's one of the reasons why we aren't anywhere near the best. He will most likely end up at around 20 league goals this season, without any sort of injury problems at all, and I have to say that's a bit disappointing. Hopefully next season he will come up at 25 goals.

No. Every competition counts. Also in the league he has 21 goals + assists in 29 games, that's a very good record.

 Top 6 moved to Top 4 now that he scored against Chelsea. FYI, he also assisted goals against Spurs and Liverpool.

Is staying fit a disadvantage nowadays?
