It's not like it's overall on the ball ability - genuinely think it's something he can improve on with training or just timing his runs better. Especially as in the box he suddenly knows what to do with his head. He's good when he's trying to score but when he's just heading to win the ball it's way different for him.

That’s not quite how it works though, he’s been playing football for the majority of his life, putting in 10s thousands of hours - this idea that he can suddenly improve his aerial ability is just not realistic.

We’d be much better off playing to his strengths, playing off the last shoulder, running in behind, letting him play with his back to goal etc.

Resorting to long balls is an indication of us not being able to build attacking play otherwise.

Good performance? standards must seriously be low of what is expected of a world-class striker capable of playing for this club.

He's been OK. Hasn't done anything bad, but he's hardly been a menace which is what you expect of a top United 9.

As usual on here, there’s posters that can’t defend a player writhout also overrating their performances. I get why he’s defended, but I also get why he’s frustrating so many, with his sloppiness in attacking positions. Any top class striker would have done better with that opportunity at the end of the half.

Its like what one decent cross, couple of decent wall passes, one good long ball. That now constitutes a good performance from a £75m player, not to mention the last chance where he was having to bring it back on to his left foot when the natural thing is to touch that ball into space from Sanchez header and smack that with your right.

He's definitely not been poor, or reason why we are drawing etc.. but people in a rush to defend him are overrating very average performances.
Yup. Genuinely amazed when people say he's done really well. He always slows attacks down because he needs to bring it back on his left foot and makes it a more difficult chance. Happens every game where his touch may not lose the ball but doesn't really set himself up properly so the momentum is gone. He's just not good enough technically and never will be. Can fill in, score goals, do pretty well up there, but he'll never be the same standard of classic United #9's that we constantly had under Fergie.

£75m is a complete misnomer. Who else could we have picked up for that price? The market dictating the price of players has nothing really to with "value" anymore or expectations of performance. Morata was a similar price and he's been garbage for most of the season.

He's playing OK but we are not playing well as a team and our attacking combinations are poor. Ronaldo wouldn't make a difference to us!

Not a knocker but not a lover either, Augero and Kane would have taken 1 or 2 of those chances-just saying.....

Poor pass to Martial just before but great through ball to Sanchez just then. Played it perfectly.

I find it incredible that some people can have watched the game so far and call it a poor performance. He's done about all he could given the terrible service.

I had to laugh a min ago. He played a mishit through ball to Martial and then 5 seconds later he plays a brilliant through ball to Alexis. The best and the worst of him inside 10 secs.

This thread is a mess. In terms of link up play we couldn't ask for any more today. Ridiculous.

The only times he’s been bad has been when we’ve lumped the ball up to him.

When we play through the midfield, and link up play with our attacking options he’s been excellent.

 what chances? You mean like how Kane missed a free header yesterday from 6 yards?

He's done alright with the ball but I'm getting very frustrated with his lack of movement. He, along with a number of our players, don't have the work rate or desire to be deserving of the shirt.

Just hopeless. He has made a few good passes today and people are singing praises. He just isn't the level of striker we needed.
Been one of our only decent players today

Feel sorry for him today.

He’s hardly put a foot wrong - maybe just ovehitting one pass to Martial.

Been out main creative outlet.

And got feck all in return from his teammates.

People have been questioning all season if he’s good enough for us. Maybe the question is are we good enough for him?

Like the Leicester game, he’s been very good and has been let down by his teammates.

But it's still not enough. Even when he's doing his best his first touch and hold up play is just too limited.
It's not been enough today because he's unable to provide the perfect through ball and finish himself. That Sanchez open goal is the perfect example, a brilliant bit of buildup that's not enough simply because his teammates let him down. Far from the only example.

Played like a mid-level team striker. A big reason why we shot blank against fecking Newcastle.

He was alright, some good link-up play and worked himself into some good positions at times but I don't think it was a particularly remarkable performance either. One of our better players today but that doesn't really mean much considering the result.

Today is one of his best games and he just isn't good enough. BTW, you're the same guy that said Mikhi was a better version of Mata so I wont be trusting your judgement.

You're talking utter nonsense. He created our best chances today. Bizarre comments.
