Jesus christ he's at 19 goals in 36 games! Thats more than 'decent'.

What matters the most is the Premier League, a goal against Yeovil or Derby says absolutely nothing about him. 12 league goals, five the last 16-17 games is merely decent and far from great. A couple of hat-tricks against a crap team or two can masque overall statistics, so let’s concentrate on the PL. Not that he has scored so many hat-tricks either...

How many do you think Ibrahimovic had at this stage last season? Drogba in his first season for Chelsea? He's already on track with being a 25 plus goal a season striker

Nope, that sounds like decent to me. Especially for someone who contributes very little outside of goal scoring. Javier Hernandez posted almost identical league stats in his first season for us and he wasn't supposed to be our first choice striker. 12 goals in 25 games is a disappointing record for someone who cost £75 million and plays every minute.

The only game you can say he really cost us points was City. Next year he will be even better when the team goes up another level.

Pretty sure there were more.

What about the Liverpool away game? That one on one straight to Mignolet though.

Man feck the transfer fee, that's not something he controls. I don't know what this guy needs to do to get respect for his contribution. He even has more assists than any other number 9 in the league, and he seldom gets constant good service.

Ah we're at the discount random goals for no reason to make his total smaller stage.
I can't wait till he pads that so then the goals v top 6 record becomes the focus.
I mean what does 4 in 6 in CL competition really mean

That was one on one chance even Mourinho was furious right after he missed it.

Every striker has those moments though? Saying that's what cost us points is just incorrect. You have to create more than one chance. We wouldn't say Kane and Salah cost Liverpool and Spurs points when they drew their games this season whilst missing bigger chances.

It's like saying Salah cost his team points in that game because he had a massive chance as well.

Well, the same thing with Lukaku's chance vs City. Every striker has those type of moments.

Salah isn't a pure no 9 though.

Honestly, this is why it's a big game. You don't expect a lot of chances are coming. A 75m-90m out and out striker who is known as bad touch & movement but can score goal should score in one on one chance against a keeper like Mignolet.

Lukaku does not have bad movement.

Lukaku messed up for the goals we conceded against City, that's why he cost us points.

No one asked for a lot of chances. 1 chance is not enough. If he misses a host of chances then we can blame him.

Because he missed a chance? Even the best of strikers miss chances. Zlatan last year missed tons of sitters in many of our draws last season

To be fair, there were many people also not impressed with Zlatan missed tons of sitters last season. Let's be honest that wasn't just unlucky, it was poor place of shot from Lukaku.

Us not creating chances is the reason why we drew 0-0. Not because Lukaku missed one chance.

But he's an out and out striker who cost huge amount of money. We paid the fees not to clear the ball during set pieces but to score a goal. Can't blame a striker who made bad clearance, I would rather blame the shitter than the poor clearance.

He's an out and out striker but we still need to create chances. I am not going to blame him for us dropping points because he missed one chance. Every striker misses 1 chance a game.

Us not creating chances is the reason why we drew 0-0. Not because Lukaku missed one chance.

Not blaming him for a drew but obviously when an out and out striker who cost 75m-90m got a one on one chance like that, he should have done better. Fair enough if it was great save but that was more of a poor choice of shooting place. And you know it was.

Yes he could have done better. Every striker misses chances like that though.

Not in the league. We are Man United, our top scorer needs to score 25 in the league unless he has enormous influence in other parts of the game. Bringing up Zlatan? We were 6th last season and he didn’t score enough - the debate came up after Christmas and he looked his age. I love Zlatan, but take away his persona and image and it’s not the same player anymore. Lukaku does not contribute in making our attack more fluid, he does not link players together with wicked passes - he is a goalscorer, pure and simple.

I agree - they definitely do - but this excuse has been used a looot of times for Lukaku this season. Over time, those excuses will turn into frustration for the same fans.

So you would rather blame an our and out striker for making poor clearance when it's not his job to do it?

I remember Lingard against City did give him a through ball and he missed it. So can't say it's "1 chance a game''.

Lukaku's link play is actually quite good. It's his hold up play which is suspect.

Yes because he fecked it up twice and he has done it before this season. I already said he cost us in the City game so I don't get your point.

When striker missed a chance like that they were being criticised and blamed. But Lukaku is special and shouldn't be criticised & blamed huh? But instead, let's blame a striker for making poor clearance.

What? I just said he should have done better. I said I am not going to blame him for us dropping points against Liverpool.

If you are talking about City, we dropped points because of his shit clearances not because he missed one chance.

So you would rather blame a striker who can't make clearance rather than missing chance? It wasn't just one chance it was more than once against City. I blame Mourinho for putting him in defense to defend set pieces, I blame him for missing the chance because he's an out and out striker who cost 75m-90m.

It's not difficult to make clearances. Anyone can do it. You can blame him for the missed chances against City as well, I don't care. I already said that was the only game we can really say he cost us anyway.

It’s decent - with space/time, but in tight spaces it’s average imo. Hopefully develops over time... because we often meet defensive units with little space and time to play in

Those games are not really our problem though.

Anyone? seriously? Even a defender sometime make poor clearance and you are telling me it's not difficult.

Sums up why he only scored 2 goals against top 10 sides. He doesn't make enough good movement in a game which make decent defenders easily to man mark Lukaku now, and in tight space it's obviously we are all know how struggle he's been. Which something he needs to improve.

He did it twice in one game mate.

That doesn't mean it's not difficult to clear the ball mate. Even the previous game he showed that he can't make clearance against Arsenal. Not all attacker can make clearance. Striker should know how to score not make clearance.

Oh my God. I mean, ok, where is this even going? All I said was he only really cost us vs City.

I'm really tired of this nonsense debate. My point was that only in the city game can we blame him for dropped points. Take it how you want, I'm done.

I’d be surprised if many players had “accurate” heading stats. Winning a header and actually getting some accuracy to find a team mate are entirely different things.

This is something I argued in different different thread. It's very hard to get better percentage as it depends on other making the run too.
