Roland Garros 2009

Serena Williams post-match thoughts: "Women's tennis is better than men's tennis, there's no comparison. I'm on the tour, great personalities like Jelena are on the tour. It's way cattier, so it's better to watch. Women are just cattier in general. We're so passionate about whatever we do, ladies just are, and maybe we have more passion and that's what makes it so intense. It's just really exciting."

I'm sorry Serena but the WTA is a joke.

What is cattier? What does it mean?

Any man in the top 5,000 of world tennis would beat Serena.

I was surprised to see how big the difference was in ace-stats in male/female tennis. I would think that because the girls are slower and have a shorter reach they`d be able to rack up almost as many aces.

You are pathetic, my hypocrasy and bias?

because i dont lick federers ring with the rest of them? Federer was a player i loved when he was in his pomp but as soon as things started going a little wrong he lost a lot of cred in my opinion.

Even in madrid i think it was i was watching him screaming and throwing his racket around. Now i dont care if a player does that but not players who 99% of the time come across like they are better than that.

Anyway, you have a hardon for Federer, fair enuogh he is the greatest player i've ever witnessed but i dont share your admiration for him, now get over it.
I was never in need of getting 'over it'
This has to the most laughable and ironic post on this forum for ages. FV accusing someone of having a 'hard on' for a sportsman! :D

Just for the record, i dont personally know Roger. I couldn't care less how good a human being he is considering i dont know him. But he has almost always shown class on the court. Also i'm not big headed enough to be critical of a sportsman the moment they behave a little poorly. Havent we all?

So did I. He has grown up considerably just in the last few months, as you do..

I think its a little unfair to judge sportsman when they're younger. Different people mature at different ages. For us you can see the difference between Rio, the player and person, now and him 4 years back.

What is it with the French fans and their "aayeahhhhhhh" thing?!

Didn't they have a match a few years ago where a lad ranked 100 or something played two sets against the women's number 1 at the time which was Venus? You're man hammered her.

It's ridiculous, number 3 player in the world, always fair play on and off the court, you really have to be cockeyed to think he has ever won by cheating.

On the other hand Federer does not hesitate to not pay credit to his opponents, Murray, Djokovic, Nadal until the latter destroyed him, from then on prompting the Swiss to call the ATP world tour a "two horse race".

What are you talking about? Who mentioned 'how he wins games'?

I was quite clearly referring to Djokovic's 'unfortunate' habit of 'needing' to retire when he's losing a match. Once or twice, maybe's it's fair enough, but's he's retiring in games because he knows he's going to be beaten. Bad form, IMO. Regardless of what you think of other players.

PS He's also no. 4 in the world, no?

Tsonga wins second 7-6, Del boy just broke 2-0 in third.

Robredo beats Kohlschreiber 6-4 5-7 7-6 6-2 by the way.

Tsonga is back on track but Del Potro is great today.

He's been 4th in the world for two weeks and 3rd for two years.

If you talk about the Roddick match (hottest weather ever on an Australian Open, even Serena Williams who played later said they shouldn't have played), I watched it and Djokovic was clearly suffering from the weather otherwise he had the match in his hands. My apologies for thinking Djokovic is better than Roddick in any aspect of the game bar the first serves.

Each time it is hot he loses half of his abilities, as against Kohlschreiber two days ago, or Nieminen in Australia where he could have become 2nd in the world and played awfully, or Murray in Miami. He did not retire in any of these matches.

The pro-Federer are annoying in the way they demote other players, like Nadal having too much muscles or Djokovic not enough. Why not enjoying the game and stop pointless controversies?

Leaving aside the madness of this baseless claim.

The deciding factor in which game has better tennis is who will win?

She didn't say that the women are better than the men, she said women's tennis is better.

It's all down to personal preference, I like watching tennis but at times find the men's game to be more about power and strength than finesse. Where a lot of women can't rely on the same powerful game and so have to play tennis more, more rallies occur etc. Of course this doesn't ring true all of the time, there are great games and players on both sides but I don't think there is anything wrong with her opinion here, she is entitled to it afterall.

He's fourth in the world. It's a point of no real consequence, but he is. If I was to say Federer is no.1 because of all the time he spent there, I'd be ridiculed. And rightly so.

I'm not talking about any one match in particular, but the idea that you're giving him credit for not walking off says it all. You aren't willing to accept that he walks off easily. That's fine, but it makes your argument less than convincing. He does. Anyone who watches him can see that. It seems to me that the vast majority of players stay to take their beating, but on occasion he takes the easy way out. I don't like to see that. His fellow pros and pundits have commented on it too. Are you suggesting they too have agenda against him?

I don't know what the last paragraph refers to. I like watching all of the top 4, and though I may have somewhat of a preference for Federer, I'm not blind to either his faults or the strengths of others either. Djokovic is a smashing player, but he looks the weakest mentally of them. That's all this conversation was originally about, until you decided we were having a go at his abilities as a player.

Anyway, I'm not going to get into an e-argument with you a la the Tevez & Berbatov debates. We have different opinions, and I'm sure you care about mine as little as I care about yours.

Enjoy the tennis.

I'm leaving for roland garros I'll try to take some pics of Murray for you Britons.

Does Federer play today? Only thing I can gather from rolandgarros.com is that Murray v Gonzales and Soderling v Davydenko starts at 1400 Paris time.

One result I missed last night was Monfils beating Roddick 6-4 6-2 6-3.

So Del Potro vs Robredo and Monfils vs Federer tomorrow.
