Robin van Persie

It wouldnt come to that anyway would it, he could easily refuse to sell to City but sell him to one of the other gazillion clubs that would make a reasonable offer for him.

Tbh I can't imagine that it was just City and probably ourselves that were in for Nasri but he wanted to go there, they more than likely offered the most money and there he went. If a similar thing happens with RVP I can't see Arsenal doing anything but hold out for more money. If RVP wants to go to x club then they're not really in a position to do much about it, no point keeping a player unhappy for a year and they'd lose out on loads if he goes for free. Look what happened with Fabregas and Barca, selling him was one thing but they didn't even get a good price for him despite being in a better position than they were with nasri and rvp.

Sports NewsExclusive - Man United set to make sensational move for Arsenal star
By Warren Haughton | Wednesday, May 9, 2012
TweetShare12 Manchester United are lining up a sensational move for Arsenal skipper Robin van Persie.

The 28-year-old has just one year left on his current deal at the Emirates and there has been intense speculation over whether he will remain at Arsenal.

Van Persie, who has hit 35 goals in all competitions this season, has stated that he will hold talks with Arsene Wenger over his future in the summer.

Manchester City are reportedly ready to pay the Dutchman £250,000 a week to quit north London, while Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been linked with moves.

Now United have joined the chase, with Sir Alex Ferguson planning to strengthen his squad this summer after a disappointing campaign that looks set to end without any silverware.

talkSPORT understands United have already sounded out the possibility of van Persie making a switch to Old Trafford, and are prepared to splash out big on the former Feyenoord man.

That's the way it works.

But seriously if he was staying with ye surely he would have signed already?

He may be waiting for them to have Champions League football sown up for next season which I think they will do.

He is not just about money. Arsenal are a good club...but they are not going to win the title. City and United will fight that out.

But RVP is not a mercenary and unlikely to join City...I think he will be off to Spain...if he does not come to us.

This would never happen.

But rooney and RVP would be immense!

Take another toke and forget about it.

He won't be coming here, I fully agree with you on that but if you don't get Champions League football he will be gone and I expect your board will encourage him too. You need to make £15m a season with the Champions League money, you'll desperately need the income if your not in it.

If Real or Barca come calling, then RVP will leave. I doubt he'll join another English club.

The "I'm never going to win a trophy at Arsenal" excuse for players leaving is wearing thin now. Wenger should just concentrate on players who want to end their trophyless run, not cop out.

Him leaving or not depends on whether he wants a realistic chance of winning the Champions League or if he is just content to play in it.

heck Arsenal cannot win the English title....The CL is a much harder target.

Chelsea are going to finish 5th or 6th and have a chance of winning the CL. Not saying Arsenal will win either anytime soon, but Liverpool haven't been near the league in years and have been in 2 CL finals, Arsenal in one, of which they were quite unlucky I think.

I'd wait to see CL football confirmed before I signed up, even if I was planning on staying and fairly confident of getting it.

I'm not sure I buy that, but it's a big weekend coming up if you do!

Yeah, they have a chance, but it's a small one, there are 5 teams at the very least who have a far better one.

Possible league champions? Investment in the squad which could make them CL winners?

Arsenal's (an maybe Wenger's) failure to invest is costing them dear. Van Persie is a top player who should be challenging for top honours. Van Persie is probably sick of hearing Wengers promises that a golden generation of youth team players will soon mature into superstars.

I personally think Arsenal have a chance of keeping him - but only if they match his ambition.

Yeah, I stated that badly. I guess I meant that everything with City was of recent vintage and sprang from that fat wallet.

nice to see Arsenal become the feeder club to shitty

Although I'm a known advocate of unrestrained muppetry, I have to wonder why Arsenal would be willing to sell RVP to us when they refused to sell Nasri to United?

Could be, Ando. :D

Don't believe this story, couple of points do we really need a striker, CM is more of a pressing issue also interesting we can't afford wages for the likes of Hazard, and previously Nasri but we can fork out big forRvP...BS story!

Nasri just went for big money did'nt he?

Ok..he may end up with a title or two.

RVP seems a player with some 'integrity' if you want to use that word for footballers these days.

I don't think Arsenal will be averse to doing business with us. If he is on a final year contract, they wil sell to whoever pays the most in the end.

tbh I don't think he will end up with us...though Rooney and RVP up front for us is something to dream about.

id take him in a heartbeat but its about as likely as liverpool winning the league next year!!

Considering Wenger stated something like : no matter what happens - van Persie stays.

He isn't leaving!

It will be a better deal for Arsenal to keep van Persie and let him go on a free next summer - than selling him for £20 million this summer. He is so good for Arsenal that he guarantees a C.L spot - something Arsenal wouldn't be close to achieving this term without him

Well, RVP is older and a proven top performer, so we could pay him Rooney money without jeopardising our wage structure. If we overpaid for the other 2, it'd probably provoke a queue of players (or their agents) outside Gill's door wanting to renegotiate their contracts.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if we were interested. I thought we might buy a top forward if one became available. We paid £30M for Berbatov when we already had Rooney and Tevez. We've still got Rooney, but no one comparable to Tevez.

he is at the right age in his prime, and welbeck can pick up once he gets into his thirties, would absolutely love him to come, but its going to be difficult
