of course not....

we can still get 7 good years out of him.

He's 28. We could potentially have another Berbatov on our hands. Albiet a far better version.

Also, he'll always be an Arsenal player for me. Prefer us making stars rather than taking them.

no disrespect to Berba. RVP is currently the top striker in the league. Easily among the top 3 or 4 in the world.

My only concern IF we go for him is his injury history. He has had a fantastic season...but before this I cannot remember one when he has not been injured for some time.

As to our 'buying' policy. We tend to mix it up...which is good...though we cannot of course compete with the likes of City and to a lesser extent Chelsea.

He's said he's confident of him staying, he said that about Fabregas and Nasri though.

Ronaldo also said he was staying with us.

its all about the player and his agent, the fact is until we hear from him/his agent or arsenal anything can happen.

He might stay, he might go to City/United/Barca/Madrid/Juve

Any big club like that can persuade him to sign, he doesnt strike me as a mrecenary but ya can never tell can ya.

How is a man meant to turn down 250k a week?

Oh, I think he's brilliant. Best striker in England for me. But I just don't like the idea of:

1) Us spending big money for a 28 year old (he is 28 right?). You have to excuse any player a minimum of one year to settle into the new team and system and he could be close to 30 by the time he does, which means you effectively have a player past his peak (or almost so) signed for big money and big wages.

2) Someone whose been so prominent at Arsenal being a United player. This isn't a big issue but as I said, it's a personal preference that I'd rather see someone either pop out of nowhere at United or truly make it big here.

My point was that when Wenger says he's confident of him staying, history shows it means nothing.

yeah i hear ya.

You just cant believe anything until you hear it from the horses mouth can you.

There are too many rags printing and reporting lies just to boost figures and ratings/sales.

Sky being "liars in chief"

If we are signing a marquee player like an RvP, and it is anything other than a CM, we are screwed.

Well, I think Fergie will know a lot more than we do about the current state of a certain Darren Fletcher.

for feck sake.........lets say he's back to his "brillant best"....citeh / barca...watch out

Well, I think Fergie will know a lot more than we do about the current state of a certain Darren Fletcher.

Darren is a quality player, at his best a match winner.

He'll take time to get back to anywhere near that.

We need some serious investment in the central midfield. It's as simple as that.

From the sound of it, would appear he's gearing for an exit...He's effectively 29 years of age for a buying club but that's traditionally the prime for a striker, IMO...Fortunate for him, he's not a player that relies on his pace per se so I don't expect a dramatic fall off in his form

It's his fragile fitness that should be of concern...Another big player leaving Arsenal, yet another transition season for Gooners

He might not rely on pace but he does rely on agility. He doesn't do yoga like Giggs does he? Agility goes quickly with age as well as pace if you don't maintain it properly. And footballers are generally not very agile players. Far from it. Just those who are more naturally agile than others.

He said CL was top priority. Arsenal have that. They will be seeded number 1 so they will qualify for the knock out round unless they do a United :nervous:

He's in a prime bargaining position and I imagine he'll get a nice pay rise. Better to give him what he wants. If you lose RvP the player you buy in his stead will have the same bargaining power if it's a player with proven abilities in the big leagues. I think he will stay and I think he will be the highest paid Arsenal player ever.

it's Arsenal all over again - they get a player from good to brilliant and then he is off because the club can't get a trophy - and so it starts again with another player or 2.

It's almost as I hope Arsenal can keep him so they can be able to build on their strong end to the season - they deserve a break in that respect.

I don't see why anyone other than City would pay big money for a 29 year old though. Hell have maybe 2 seasons more at his absolute best? Add in the possibility of his injury problems recurring and its a suicidal deal for anyone that hasn't got near unlimited pots of cash.

Would seem strange for him to stay in the Premiership if he bolted Arsenal - doubt he would do that to Gooners...Wonder if it's Turin and not City where he would head to

Are you serious?

You said in the Toure thread that you might be naive and I think that you are.

250k a week = feck loyalty.

In the case of Toure, well he has been doing some talking hasn't he, in fact he started it by saying that he wants to return to Barca :wenger:

Aren't they prepared to lose him on a free transfer? I think I read an article where it said he will forced to play through his contract.

Van Persie has been pretty loyal to Arsenal, I'm not so sure he would do that to the fans - I do believe it matters to him...But, again, I may be naive here - truth is I don't know RvP well enough

He's had to be loyal to Arsenal...

He's been at Arsenal for 8 seasons, and prior to the last 18 months or so...he only had 48 goals in the league

He has doubled that tally since then 18 + 30 :lol:

So Arsenal showed him a lot of patience and faith...question is will he do the same now? I get the feeling he wants to stay, but is thinking about his age, 29 in less than a month, and his almost empty trophy cabinet. Whatever he does, he won't do a Nasri and move to a club in England - of that I am sure.

I know it's Talkshite but in the morning newspaper review John Cross (i think) from the Mirror mentioned that United, City and Juve are interested in RVP and that United are very keen and prepared to match any transfer fee and salary package..

We have to pursue these players-Hazard, RVP, Nasri etc. If City want them then they will have to pay over the odds.

Otherwise it'll just be like Bayern getting all the German league players at a good price.

Keep City honest. At some point they will have to get rid of players if they are going to be able to play the ones they have.

Aren't they prepared to lose him on a free transfer? I think I read an article where it said he will forced to play through his contract.

Didn't they say the same about Nasri?

I do hope we aren't in for him, if I were at Arsenal I'd genuinely sell him - nearly 29, long history of being very injury prone, likely to command a big fee - money could go a long way to helping bring in 2 or 3 players for them.

Didn't they say the same about Nasri?

No matter what, Arsenal and Wenger have to be fantastically retarded to allow last summer's disaster to happen again. If they want to keep Van Persie then they must act now and if they can't then they have to sell him as soon as possible.

Panic-buying a striker might not work out as well as it did with Arteta after the departures of Nasri and Fábregas.

Van Persie and our medical staff, a match made in heaven.

Him and Rooney would be unreal.

He's a class act that is right up Fergie's street. I am sure we will monitor the situation but it is stacked against us as:

1) We are the club that they would probably least like to sell him to

2) He may see that as a stab in the back against Arse more than going to City or abroad

3) We won't offering him as much in wages though I'm sure we'd give him Rooney style big wages

Arsenal are jokers. They should be offering him a mega contract - they can afford it and he is the star man.

Arsenal season ticket holders are completely ripped off. Most expensive ticket in world football too!

Robin van Persie's father has claimed it would be 'impossible' for the Arsenal striker to join Premier League rivals Manchester City.

The Holland international, currently at Euro 2012 with his country, has been linked with a move away from Emirates Stadium as he has just 12 months left to run on his current contract.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger does not want to see his skipper and star striker depart, but the club cannot allow Van Persie to leave for nothing when his deal expires next summer.

Manchester City have been strongly linked with a move for the former Feyenoord forward, while Real Madrid and Barcelona have been mooted as other possible destinations.

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis confirmed discussions had taken place at the end of the season and insisted the North London club would not be rushed into making any announcement on Van Persie's future.
Never

Now the striker's father, Bob, has ruled out the possibility of a switch to the Etihad and also moved to quell suggestions his son could be on the move to the Primera Liga.

"He'd never go to Manchester City as it's impossible he would play for another Premier League side that wasn't Arsenal," Bob van Persie is quoted as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.

"It would make no sense to go to Barcelona when they've already got Leo Messi.

"Real Madrid would be a good option, but they are not so much a team as a collection of star names, so he wouldn't really fit in there either."

So where the feck will he go if he's that fussy? He may as well stay at Arsenal.
