I find it a tad embarrasing when you have an online conversation about something and they continue to say Man Yoo or Yernited or even Manure.

Here we go again.....another sensitive soul

I can't imagine you have ever been to a football match where worse is said as much by your fans as anyone else's

Don't be such a big girl's blouse

The glazers revising their IPO proposal and now deciding to take half of the IPO proceeds for themselves instead of the original proposal to use all the IPO proceeds to help clear the debt.

Well, stone me in 'Glazers see Man Utd as Cash Cow' shock !?

Never mind, after all the advisors and underwriting fees have been paid and after the Glazers have taken their dosh, Man Yoo's debt will come down by around £75m saving you the princely sum of £5m interest pa.

Now what would that get you, half of RVP's salary?

Given the depressing IPO news, I wouldn't hold your breath on signing likes of RvP or Moura. Can't believe a word that comes out of Fergie's or Gill's mouth.

If we did buy them then that would be 10s of millions going to other clubs, and players banks accounts, that could have been used to pay off the debt. So surely that would be a bad thing?

Why? Have I missed something? Did Fergie or Gill say anything about the IPO?

No, but Gill is a well established turncoat; just look at his attitude towards the Glazers and debt pre-takeover compared to now.

Meanwhile, SAF constantly champions the Glazer cause, to the extent that he has even criticised fans for voicing their concerns.

I'm just using a process of deduction - - -> IPO leading to incentive payments - - - > directors, senior managers set to benefit - - -> SAF and Gill's pockets get lined.

It's funny how everything has gone quiet on the transfer front. The club's key mouthpieces are undoubtedly gearing up for a round of "we tried, but there was no value in the market" comments. This sort of rhetoric would be easier to swallow if we weren't paying obscene amounts of money out of the club's coffers each season to service a debt imposed upon us for no reason other than for the Glazers to profit.

Illogical.

The goal for a club like United is to win trophies, because this ultimately maximises revenues. For United to be in a winning position, the squad needs investment.

We shouldn't be in a position where we mess around over a few million, in the famed search for "value". We generate so much cash it's untrue, but we piss it all away in interest payments.

Looked like there'd be light at the end of the tunnel with the IPO, but the Glazers have brazenly lied about their intentions (don't know why I'm disappointed tbh), and it now turns out they'll be pocketing a shit load of the proceeds.

Depressing.

We need to compete. If the club just concerned itself with paying debts off and not refresh the team it's the path to oblivion. The club earns plenty of money to buy the best, but unfortunately a lot of that goes towards paying off debts and related costs. If it wasn't for SAF, and Ronaldo's money I would guess we'd have been in serious trouble.

Agreed. There's no way other managers would have kept United competing over the past three seasons in the way that SAF has.

When you compare the 08/09 squad with the current version, it's a big step down.

I'm starting to doubt we'll sign anyone. Seems to have been no progress at all for a week now, and if the club thought we were going to sign someone, they'd have announced the Glazer/IPO thing at the same time I'd have thought.

I agree. seems like they really played the fans this time around. we were all surprised that SAF came out so early about the targets only to learn that we are nowhere close to signing these players. SAF and Gill backing the Glazers and taking the piss out of the fans.

I don't necessarily agree with the force of invective directed at Fergie from certain fans, but I do understand it. To come out with that 'real fans' nonsense, or whatever he said, was extremely poor from him.

We always knew that for the Glazers and Gill it was always only about the money and for SAF it was putting the fans first. The messages coming from SAF in the last few months just seems a bit scripted.

In fairness to Fergie, he has towed the party line for a lot longer than just the last few months. If you cast your mind back, this has been a repeat point of frustration amongst many fans.

The difference, so far as I see it, is that this is the first time he's defended his paymasters and in the same breath questioned the conduct of fans. I fully understand the argument that he is between a rock and a hard place, and that he can hardly come out against his bosses, but he could have been more tactful with his recent comments.

All said and done, it looks as though the flurry of comments from SAF recently have been part of a campaign to boost the attractiveness of the IPO - - -> hence statements about how good the owners are. It might also explain why were have been positioning ourselves as genuine competitors for 'marquee' players in the transfer market...

The cynic in me reckons that we'll end the summer without significant additional reinforcements.

It isn't any more. The goal for United is to provide the Glazers with money. The Glazers can make as much money off us if we make Europe every year but don't win stuff, which SAF is capable of doing without that much investment.

Kagawa?

Eventually, underperformance on the pitch will hit the Glazers in the pocket. Another season of being knocked out in the group stage, for instance, would be bad news...

Kagawa will be much more influential than people think. He'll be the difference in a lot of games, at least we will have a central midfielder capable of making forward runs and spliting up the defences.

I don't know why people post comments like the one in bold, since it's pretty much universally accepted that Kagawa is going to be an influential player.

I said "additional reinforcements".

I've considered the purchase of Kagawa and I'm happy with it. Personally, I don't think he alone is sufficient.

I'm doubting the real reason behind signing Kagawa. Don't get me wrong I think he is a smashing player already, but a) not a typical SAF signing, b) we didn't really need an attacking midfielder and c) he wasn't exactly cheap

He was kind of cheap, £12m is peanuts for a renowned talent. And yes, we needed an attacking midfielder - we didn't have one.

I can see the logic behind it:

- He's a United sort of age - 23.
- He's a United sort of price - £12m rising to £17.
- He's a United sort of wage - this will obviously be pure speculation, but I'd wager that he's come in and slotted seamlessly into the club's pay structure.

If you factor in that he has the ability to play a killer ball from a central position as well, I think there was definitely a spot for him in the squad. I think he'll make us a more nuanced side. Problem is, we still have a soft underbelly.

Because people are still mentioning him with shirt sales, though often tongue-in-cheek.

Those who seriously mention shirt sales are far outweighed by those who think he's going to be a smashing player.

As I said, it's basically a given as far as United fans are concerned that Kagawa is going to be an influential player; I'm happy we got him. I won't be happy if he and Powell are the sum total of our business this summer though.

I bet if you asked every united fan what we needed, it would probably be central midfielder, followed by left full back and then attacking midfielder. Before we start the debate about attacking vs central vs holding vs defensive midfielder, Kagawa is more a forward playing behind the strikers than a midfielder.

I would say we needed an attacking mid more than we needed another striker. Central areas are one area where we don't get enough. Personally I don't blame this all on the midfield, I don't really get the comparison when people say this because they always seem to compare against the likes of Silva, nasri, sneijder etc, players who when central, play in roles much more closer to Rooney in a deeper role than they do a centre mid, particularly one in our set up. For me Rooney, who is our main creative central player has increasingly looked better off as the main striker, I know last season he played a little deeper, but really he didn't play that much deeper the majority of the time. Personally I think we need someone like Kagawa who is happier to drop deeper and looks very comfortable there, Rooney on his day is a beast there but in the last two seasons or so I don't think he's consistently been great there.

I can think of at least 5 other players who fit this criteria, none of them are Asian.

Being Asian is a definite bonus, the club have admitted as much. But that doesn't detract from his quality. If you subtract his nationality, we're looking at a player who has been integral to the German champions for the past two seasons. He's clearly a very good player.

At that age, price, quality and experience, I can't think of one player we could have got in Kagawa's position that is superior, let alone five.

I agree with you that central midfield was the most pressing area of concern, though it seems as though Fergie is backing Cleverley and Anderson to stay fit and fulfil their potential; something I have no problem with.

I am glad Sir Alex is in charge, not the United fans.

I think our existing midfield will let us down in Europe and in tough domestic away games this season.

Hopefully we've learned from the European fiasco from last season, and why would we struggle more in tough domestic away games this season than we did last season?

Nah, if we added another 5-10 million we could have probably targeted some very decent central midfielders. Now we down 12 million and still short in the one area we needed to re-enforce.

remember we had Scholes out of retirement and believing Anderson and Cleverley will stay fit and fill that gaping void in the middle of the park...

I do think kagawa is a good player and Asian does help, but at the expense of not getting a decent central midfielder is what makes me doubt.
