I'm perplexed by this, it would obviously be great to get any world class player but I can't fathom why are after signing Kagawa and already having such a good strike force we'd choose to spend our limited resources on VP. Maybe Fergie's been given enough to spend to go out with a bang

...maybe our resources aren't limited...

It's a SAF/Wenger plan to make City pay full whack.

They are mates these days...the enemy of my enemy etc.

That's rubbish TBH.It's about money, and City and Arsenal don't have a better working relationship that Utd/Arsenal

Well, now I'm lost. I know what Fergie said but I just can't believe we'd sign a striker of that age and injury record, and salary, after pushing Welbeck and Hernandez in the last couple of years. All that, when Berbatov and his huge salary is still on our books. I now official haven't a clue what's going on.

It'll probably be Nasri all over. Yada, yada, yada, the player ends up with City after receiving the sort of money he can't refuse.

Also, the idea that players should be cheaper towards the end of their contract cannot be applied to world class footballers; if there is enough of a market for them.

If we assume United, City, Chelsea, and Madrid would all happily pay £100 million for Messi, him being in his final year isn't going to change that. If he is "available" and willing to sign a long contract then this is the one and only time you can get him. Your paying over the odds to stop him going to the other 3, not buying his contract of Barca.

Am i the only to think that we're bidding for players that its nearly impossible for us to sign? I mean Sao Paulo has refused a 40m bid for Moura + RVP is Arsenal's icon.

I wonder what would happen if we do not succeed in buying any of these players.

As if it would make a slight bit of difference to them

All it would do is give Arsenal more money to try and compete for second. Although with the way you tend to spend it I could see why Sir Alex would have no concern

How would you know its impossible to sign a young brazillian until you offer silly amounts of money and they reject it? Its only now that it seems he's out of our range. A couple of weeks ago nobody would have dreamed that he'd be unavailable at that price

Gentlemen's agreement for to get a few million quid off of Wilshere when he leaves.

Well according to the media, Chelsea has offered 40m for the kid. We're talking about a 19 yr old here with no European football experience. Do you think that United will offer more then that?

There's never been any point in speculating about our transfer budget. The club generates enough money for lavish spending. It's a question of how much cash the owners make available for transfers.

Do people on this forum find it amusing when someone makes this post in every thread about any player?

I can't be the only person who finds it so boring, can I?

Right up there with 'cocks out' and saying any player over 27 is nearly 30 and therefore not worth signing.

Oh for feck sake. Round and round goes the spastic carousel. "We're only bidding because we know we can't get them".

Are you so involved in banging the "we have no money" drum that now it has to be a ploy when we bid for players? Give it a rest.

I don't think we will be able to sign RVP. Other clubs will defo offer more to him, plus i doubt he'll move to United. We seem to just to be trying out our luck. I feel SAF doesn't really wan't him, but doesn't mind having him. He might be thinking, if i get him, very good, and if i dont, i still have Chicha and Welbeck.

I very much doubt City are going to pay over the odds, wage wise, unless they can guarantee they get rid of Tevez. He must be on a similar wage, and they have to prepare for FFP.

No. But how would we have known that he was going to be unavailable at such extreme figures?

If we're going to purposefully bid for players who would cost too much and arent available for us then we'd go straight to Ozil and Sweinsteiger, etc surely

Instead we seem to be going for a kid at a Brazillian team who isnt Neymar... All signals would point towards him being available if you were willing to pay 40 million or so for him, its just a strange reaction from a single club, certainly not a player you would have predicted being unavailable even for silly money a few weeks ago.

Paying an extra 5-10m would really hurt City..

I think SAF would do anything to make life harder for City.

I just don't see RvP turning down the money available at City for a team that is not in the ascendancy like City is now. I know I'll get slated, but I think your reign is coming to an end.

Don't waste your words on why it isn't, it's just my own opinion.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Welbecks contract being held up? To be honest, with Berbatov leaving, we do need another expensive player on the books that will either flop or spend his time in the physio room. I don't remember a time when we didnt have one on the books.

Is it THAT hard to believe that there are still at least a few players that think about more than money? Lets face it, when you earn over 100000 a week there is a certain point how much stops mattering. He wants to leave le arse to win things, i think we can all agree on that, and if thats what motivates someone, playing for utd and SAF HAS to be a huge factor

It can't be long now until King Minger comes on to remind us that we can't attract the top players.

So we're basically setting ourselves up to look like we're second best to City when he picks them over us even though we came out and said we wanted him, for the sake of £5 million or so for a team who isnt us, all just to make "life harder" for City.

What?

I'm just wondering what midfield we'd place behind him and the Roo

Maybe:

.........................Kagawa.....................Carrick..........................

Valencia............................Rooney....................................Nani

........................................RVP............................................

I'd say before the hour is up. It's getting fecking tedious when every thread you go into in the transfer forum has the same arseholes giving it the "we have no money, can't attract big name players, bargain buys only, making bids to sell season tickets" shit. Every bloody transfer thread.

There is no way Manchester United would engage in something so amateur as pretending to bid for a player. I doubt any club would.

Do you really think SAF believes that we are going to accept a bid from him for a low fee?

What choice do you have if City have set a certain amount they wont go past and we're at a similar amount?

RVP has plenty of say in this.

Do you really think he would make a bid to force a club with unlimited resources to spend more? It's ludicrous.

Do you think City would just sit back and let you buy him for the sake of a few million quid?

I don't like saying "this" much. But this.

We make it sound as if Old Trafford was the land of milk and honey for any footballer before the Glazers.

It's quite eerie; yesterday I was reading through the old Rio Ferdinand to United thread (after it was linked to in the Rio 10 Years at United thread) and a lot of the speculation frenzy came with a) Ferguson speaking publicly about hoping a deal could be done and b) whether Rio would go on Leeds' pre-season tour or not. Similar trend developing here.

Part of me wonders if it is a smokescreen for another transfer; Fergie likes secrecy and silence, and he and Gill take delight in keeping deals from the press, so what better distraction than this?

If Fergie is talking about it in public because he's genuinely interested, then I agree he must have some indication from the player himself that it is on.

Do you not understand how negotiations for a player's transfer works? Start low, work up.

It's Arsenal that have decided to break the mould by publicly saying they have rejected bids. It's unusual for them to go public like that when they still hold a hope of keeping him.

It's my opinion that if RvP is truly interested in winning things then he will go to City....or maybe Chelsea. If he can use your interest to make that happen then he will.
