Robin van Persie

We wanted van Persie before he even joined Arsenal, didn't we? Pretty sure he turned us down for them if I remember correctly.

Several clubs were scouting him not just Utd.At that time who could have blamed him for joining Arsenal

Seriously, I'm trying to appear nonplussed about this, but this would be a ridiculous signing if he comes.

Who was the last player we signed at the very peak of his level?

So hard not to actually get a tad excited and hopeful.

He's versatile enough to play as a wide forward. Rooney would probably be better there though with van the man in a more central position.

It'll be the same old story. Wenger will not sell to us because we are title rivals but will have no problem selling to City who are on the same level and then he'll bemoan the fact that City always get Arsenal's players, when he pretty much pushes them to join either City or Chelsea.

Dimitar Berbatov? I was equally excited when he signed. I still think he is good player.

Who doesn't want him deep down though?

It's like saying you wouldn't want Ronaldo 'cos we've already got Young, Valencia, Nani and Giggs.

We won't sign van Persie anyway.

I dont. If we're prepared to pay his high wages + 20mil fee, i'd rather we went in and got a truly class CM.

Needless to say, having him in the team will be a great asset, just that i'd like us to address the more pressing concerns first.

I agree.

Is he a priority in what we need? No.

Is he a dream muppet signing? Hell yeah :devil:

aye, i'm similar.

It's not even a good signing position wise, but I don't think you worry about that when going after world class players.

Nah I really don't think Rooney is that suited to a wide role from an attacking perspective. His dribbling on the ball/ability to beat a man hasn't been great in recent seasons. If one of then had to play wide if prefer rvp. Though an sure if it did happen they'd swap around.

Strong argument for Berbatov, I would have said...only my opinion

I meant in a sense that Rooney would have a better footballing brain to be involved in build up play more than van Persie.

While Rooney is more creative and dynamic, RVP is not far behind. He also has a good eye for a pass.

Pros: World Class player, peak, not too expensive in comparison with what he could cost, versatile, would make Piers Morgan properly lose his shit on Twitter.

Cons: May stifle younger players like Hernandez, Welbeck, Kagawa, Injury prone, 29.

Dunno what to think really!

Not sure his injury record is to much of a concern, we could manage him better than Arsenal and not need him to play every match

Did you not pay attention last season? Man City won the title.

The part Arsenal fans should look back on is if Arsenal had sold Nasri to us we'd probably have ended above them and Arsenal at least closer to 2nd. Hope they're very happy with selling him to City because its better than selling him to United :wenger:

If any difference at all a sensible Arsenal fan would surely prefer slightly to sell him to us than to City. Mind you finding a sensible Arsenal fan is a hard task

to be honest if we were to get RVP I wouldn't give a shit about welbeck or hernandez being stifled. They will get enough games.

RvP for his experience alone would give us a huge boost in european games.

Really? Thought SAF sees him as an attacking midfielder.

As for the others, they'd have to prove themselves for one and secondly RVP/Rooney can't expect to start or finish every game

Nah Arsenal fans are generally quite a decent bunch. A bit bitter perhaps after 7 years of no success, but generally they are similar minded to United fans in my opinion. Obviously taking into account the London/Manchester divide.

I personally think we should put a 25 million pound in immediately. If we can get him, well we can afford him and Sir Alex likes to have 4 strikers anyway. Our attack would suddenly be as good as any in Europe, and the number of options we have would be crazy.

If we don't get him, which I think is far more likely then fair enough, but Man City getting him for less than 20 million would be a crime.

Also there is still a chance Rooney may want to leave eventually.

I'm perplexed by this, it would obviously be great to get any world class player but I can't fathom why are after signing Kagawa and already having such a good strike force we'd choose to spend our limited resources on VP. Maybe Fergie's been given enough to spend to go out with a bang

Just let your inner muppet think what it would be like with RVP and Rooney flanked by Nani and Young, supported by Kagawa and Carrick, with Young, Hernandez, Welbeck, Scholes, Giggs, Anderson, and Cleverely pushing for places too.

Even now that Fergie has confirmed the bid, it all seems unreal.
Just cannot see this happening. Van Persie playing for us.. nope.. cant picture it at all.

Its a weird feeling.
