Robin van Persie

Oh you guys will come out of nowhere and RvP will announce on Twitter that he's signing for the Champions of Europe

At the moment the papers seem to announce that we have signed someone (Hulk, Oscar, Hazards little bro) and then nothing happens.

As for RVP, I think his injury record (rather than his age) makes this a risky transfer if it's £15 million plus.

I'm pretty suprised Chelsea have not even been linked with him.

Roman, get you chequebook out for once you tight bastard!

You have the hazard prick teaser, give us Van Persie.

Well these bids we've put in for Hazard, Van Persie, Moura, suggest that we do have the money to invest in CM - especially as the RVP and Moura bids are seemingly simultaneous. I guess he just has faith and can't find better options that are worth it. I'm also thinking he thinks Modric isn't worth it at 35 mil, or Tottenham won't sell domestically.

He could be going for one or te other as well. Having seen nasri change his mind last second he'a probably not outing all his eggs in one basket. Tbh I don't even want modric, just an alternative to carrick, don't care if he gets someone cheap or expensive. But it looks like he has no desire to buy a cm of that type and I just can't understand it particularly when he's seemingly looking to invest in a left back after we just sent one on loan and an attacker when that area is arguably our strongest area.

I don't know where I stand with regards to this. On one end it would be absolutely incredible to have him here, after all he is a world class player but on the other end I really do like welbeck and we also have hernandez. Anyways if it does happen I guess you can only be happy, guy is worldclass. Don't think this will happen though.

Something people are overlooking is that RVP has a lot of the same assets as Berbatov, but clearly with more pace. Berbatov seems to be leaving this summer so to some extent its not so surprising that Sir Alex wants to sign a player with a great touch, volleys and the ability to set up team mates who is more advanced in his career than the young Welbeck and Hernandez.

Hernandez and Welbeck will still get games, if (unlike last season) we are challenging on all fronts.

This could be a great transfer, and if (allow me to go full muppet mode) we also sign that lucas fella we could have quite the squad for next season. Hell throw in baines and then i don't even care about central midfield, we'd have enough quality elsewhere to cover it

Not sure why anyone would be gutted that we'd be taking games away from Hernandez by replacing him with Van Persie. He had plenty of chances to impress last season and many times he's come up short.

:)

This seems exactly like the Nasri transfer. He will probably end up at City.

Difference is Fergie never publicly came out and confirmed we were in for Nasri, this is a very unusual move from him, I mean the Sao Paulo president has been talking about our bids non-stop and there has not been a peep out of Old Trafford.

Won the ball in the air as much as Berbatov last season (would have been 2nd to Rooney with Hernandez and Welbeck being least)

In the top 5 key passes in the league last season in front of Valencia and Nani who were our biggest creators. Beaten by Mata, Silva, Modric and Nasri

We didnt have anyone from a central area making many key passes, that will change with Kagawa but still. Another string to RVP's bow

I find it hard to believe that United want both RVP and Moura. What formation are we going to use? 4-1-5?

Yup. Typical transfer games. It can be even possible that we're pursuing also someone else that is out of the reach of the media's all-seeing eye.

Agreed, when we say it ourself and the deal is still possible (unlike when Villa had already gone to Barcelona for example) perhaps Sir Alex is doing it to help convince RVP how much he'd like him. Because its different to our normal practice of doing things, but then how often are we in for a player of RVP's quality with a contract situation like his?

We could mention Kagawa but if City were in for him too it would have been something different

I find it baffling people don't want us to sign a proven Premier League goalscorer to add to our already fantastic attacking array. We already know its likely if not certain that Berbatov is going and if a player of Van Persie's class is out there and available at a reasonable cost then get it done.

So you might have to rotate the likes of Welbeck/Hernandez a bit and perhaps play Welbeck out of position to get him in but both have time on their side, if we get Van Persie we improve immediately. SAF knows what money he has to spend, let them worry about that.

If Van Persie signed I might just about rip my cock off.

Who doesn't want him deep down though?

It's like saying you wouldn't want Ronaldo 'cos we've already got Young, Valencia, Nani and Giggs.

We won't sign van Persie anyway.

This is my theory as well, Fergie is showing RVP that we are deadly serious about signing him, so much so that the notoriously tight lipped Fergie has went on air to confirm it, how much more love would he need to be shown!

I think Alex Ferguson talking about him is a sign he's quite confident of a deal being done. If Van Persie isn't going on tour you would think something is in the offing.

We wanted van Persie before he even joined Arsenal, didn't we? Pretty sure he turned us down for them if I remember correctly.

I'd love this to happen purely to watch Piers spontaneously combust on Twitter.

Is RBV capable of playing in a different role?
